JO8 I have never seen GNHQ use a swear word on this site - what they do in the privacy of their own office/home is one thing publically another. Just because you feel it's 'this day and age' doesn't make it right. I'd just prefer not to see/hear it please. I always think resorting to swearing shows a lack of being able to express yourself properly.

J08, I didn't say anything about the perpetrator of the crime being entitled to 'love and understanding'. No-one knows what this woman has already been through, do they, apart from the fact that she was abused earlier in her life, according to the report. Possibly not much support was given to her throughout her younger life - who knows?
Rightly or wrongly, how much baying for blood has there been when a sexual predator has carried out an awful crime? If the parents of a sexually abused child had been able to lay their hands on a knife when they first discovered what had happened, would they perhaps have wanted to carry out the same 'operation' on the predator?

Shortening swearing to WTF doesn't mean you haven't used a nasty phrase JO8 - I would have thought that by this time of life you'd find a better way to express yourself. No matter the subject matter - hopefully GNHQ might make some sort of comment.

I wouldn't take a knife or razor-blade to any - male or female. FGM is often practiced by mother and grandmothers - the perpetuation of a dreadful cultural act that is seen to make a young girl marriageable, and therefore acceptable in some societies.
Cutting off a penis isn't cultural, and not acceptable in any societies or for any reasons, but often amounts to the same thing. A causal effect of the immense distress done to girls and women by men who use their sexuality to harm, for whatever reason.
Education is needed. For men to realise they cannot control women for the purposes of their own sexuality, and for mothers and grandmothers to realise that continuing FGM contributes to this awful cyclical dilemma.

Custodial sentencing for both acts should be considered until such practices stop.

I don't think we know enough about the circumstances that drove her to do this, so I can't pass any judgement on her or her sentence.

Goodness knows what the woman had gone through in her life before she did this. Maybe she took away from him the thing that had caused her fear throughout her life - perhaps from earlier abuse as well as what she suffered from him.
