Just how do you fill thousands of pages of newspapers and magazines with info about a new baby born to an established couple with the money to support a child.
Its born
It weighed x kg
Mother and baby healthy grin
Parents happy . Parents really happy. And the family.
It's called...
They've gone home
pause...
The photos.
The only extra news would have been if it had been a girl, and first in line no matter who born after.

Just said somethong similar on another thread, Jess. I was really excited about it all yesterday but what is there to make news about now? Mind you, is parliament sitting at the moment or are they on holiday again? Things sometimes get slipped through at times like this.

I expected the birth to dominate the news programmes on TV last night, but I was deprived of my weekly fix of 'Long Lost Family' just so that the same few facts could be discussed in a thousand different ways, filling a whole extra hour!!

There was no escape. I was trying to watch the final episode of a series I've been following but a tickertape kept running at the bottom to try to get me to change to a news channel.

Jane Garvey says it well on Twitter: what's happening at the hospital? Nowt. What's the baby's name? The palace will tell us "in due course".

Someone responded: poor kid'll be teased with a name like that.

The Today programme is a disgrace this morning....thank goodness I'm working today and can get away from this utter hyperbolic drivel. I'll be doing something that really matters to people's lives and I'm doing it because I was selected and trained to do it ( and am regularly assessed at how well I'm doing it) and not because my mother did it before me - I am really really grumpy at the moment....

bluebell Tue 23-Jul-13 08:17:19

They are talking now about how difficult it would be to smuggle a baby into the Lindo Wing confused

bluebell Tue 23-Jul-13 08:18:27

Yes I know I could turn it off but I was hoping for some news !! Cameron and Crosby must be delighted at the new agenda!

bluebell Tue 23-Jul-13 08:21:17

Oh news - help to buy scheme and dangers it poses to economy.... Well this baby will never have to worry about affording a house houses

JessM Tue 23-Jul-13 08:35:44

news would be if they mixed the baby up with the one belonging to the Patel family in next room.

Aka Tue 23-Jul-13 08:50:28

Jess you'll be sent to the Tower!

BAnanas Tue 23-Jul-13 08:51:00

Assuming mother and baby are fit and well, the only three things that will be of any interest, the sex, the weight and the name. After that a bit of speculation about who it looks like, but that's it really, doesn't warrant the hours and hours of feverish coverage about an everyday event that's happening to millions around the world. Having said that good luck to William and Kate they come across as a nice young couple.

Aka Tue 23-Jul-13 08:57:29

Who is it that wants all this publicity?
Not William and Kate I'm sure.
Not the majority of the public, they just want, as has been said, to know the basic details.
The media themselves are to blame. It's a self-servicing, over-powerful charade.

Bags Tue 23-Jul-13 09:08:21

Yep. Bang on.

whenim64 Tue 23-Jul-13 09:26:43

shysal there was uproar on Facebook last night, when I and several members of my family parked ourselves in front of the TV to watch Long Lost Family and got royal babies wall to wall! hmm

Oldgreymare Tue 23-Jul-13 10:05:27

Bluebell I totally agree about C&C*! They must be so pleased about the 'diversion'.
We've heard the news, we're pleased to hear mother and baby are safe and well, that's enough.
Aka true!
* C&C.... NOT Charles and Camilla..... phew, that was close!

Nelliemoser Tue 23-Jul-13 10:06:11

AKA Absolutely spot on! This all fueled by media hype. They can find nothing else to fill their programs or column inches with, so they carry on with stupid speculation.

This child is many years away from ever being a monarch. Be glad for the couple and leave it at that.

It would appear that the old newspapermens' saying that good news does not make the news, doesn't always apply.

Eloethan Tue 23-Jul-13 19:59:57

The BBC is meant to be neutral but the coverage of the royal birth has been anything but. Hours of incessant, trivial and inane comment. I have complained.

Of course the Royals want this sort of coverage - it's this type of propaganda that keeps them where they are. If you remember, years ago (in the 60's I think) there was a groundbreaking "fly on the wall" documentary featuring the royal family. At that time, royalty was losing popularity - they were seen as aloof and distant from reality. Following the documentary - where every effort was made to portray them as an "ordinary family" - their popularity increased. They learned their lesson and have availed themselves of the media ever since.

Ana Tue 23-Jul-13 20:02:06

The BBC neutral? Don't make me laugh...hmm

Deedaa Tue 23-Jul-13 23:04:23

What about all the weekend papers that have been pulishing Royal Baby souvenirs days before the poor child was even born! How can you have a souvenir of something that hasn't happened? DH turns the television off every time the news comes on now in case we see the baby.

bluebell Tue 23-Jul-13 23:13:09

The royal family is one of the most sophisticated media management bodies going - they and the right wing rubbish press are in cahoots to treat the rest of us like idiots and boy are they succeeding !
