What is there to say?

The royal family is one of the most sophisticated media management bodies going - they and the right wing rubbish press are in cahoots to treat the rest of us like idiots and boy are they succeeding !

What about all the weekend papers that have been pulishing Royal Baby souvenirs days before the poor child was even born! How can you have a souvenir of something that hasn't happened? DH turns the television off every time the news comes on now in case we see the baby.

The BBC neutral? Don't make me laugh...

The BBC is meant to be neutral but the coverage of the royal birth has been anything but. Hours of incessant, trivial and inane comment. I have complained.

Of course the Royals want this sort of coverage - it's this type of propaganda that keeps them where they are. If you remember, years ago (in the 60's I think) there was a groundbreaking "fly on the wall" documentary featuring the royal family. At that time, royalty was losing popularity - they were seen as aloof and distant from reality. Following the documentary - where every effort was made to portray them as an "ordinary family" - their popularity increased. They learned their lesson and have availed themselves of the media ever since.

It would appear that the old newspapermens' saying that good news does not make the news, doesn't always apply.

AKA Absolutely spot on! This all fueled by media hype. They can find nothing else to fill their programs or column inches with, so they carry on with stupid speculation.

This child is many years away from ever being a monarch. Be glad for the couple and leave it at that.

Who is it that wants all this publicity?
Not William and Kate I'm sure.
Not the majority of the public, they just want, as has been said, to know the basic details.
The media themselves are to blame. It's a self-servicing, over-powerful charade.

Assuming mother and baby are fit and well, the only three things that will be of any interest, the sex, the weight and the name. After that a bit of speculation about who it looks like, but that's it really, doesn't warrant the hours and hours of feverish coverage about an everyday event that's happening to millions around the world. Having said that good luck to William and Kate they come across as a nice young couple.

The Today programme is a disgrace this morning....thank goodness I'm working today and can get away from this utter hyperbolic drivel. I'll be doing something that really matters to people's lives and I'm doing it because I was selected and trained to do it ( and am regularly assessed at how well I'm doing it) and not because my mother did it before me - I am really really grumpy at the moment....

There was no escape. I was trying to watch the final episode of a series I've been following but a tickertape kept running at the bottom to try to get me to change to a news channel.

I expected the birth to dominate the news programmes on TV last night, but I was deprived of my weekly fix of 'Long Lost Family' just so that the same few facts could be discussed in a thousand different ways, filling a whole extra hour!!

Just said somethong similar on another thread, Jess. I was really excited about it all yesterday but what is there to make news about now? Mind you, is parliament sitting at the moment or are they on holiday again? Things sometimes get slipped through at times like this.
