I'm tempted by Nigel Farage !

I have always voted Conservative but for the first time in my life I feel tempted to vote Ukip.

I like the way NF is not frightened to say things other politicians daren't say, such as our island has too many people in it and not enough Services e.g. NHS to deal with us all.

I am only against the NUMBER of people who come here, not who they are or where they have come from.

I live in a town that has a great grammar school that gives opportunities to children from all backgrounds. Long may it continue.

We are so PC now in the UK I daren't voice some of my other thoughts in case I am quite unfairly accused of being against this or that group.

I find it a sad that the UK is no longer the country I remember from my childhood.

Find your Green Party Candidate for EU 2014

Nfk I prefer to pronounce his name to rhyme with garage (not garaaage as the Americans say it) but more garidge as we up north say it.

Sometimes if you see GP after a name it will be a GP, particularly if you live in London. Lots of GPs are standing to save the NHS. THey stand for the National Health Action party.

annodomini Mon 05-May-14 10:51:47

Yes, Nfk, Farage is a French name; he has Huguenot (ie immigrant) ancestry.

NfkDumpling Mon 05-May-14 10:09:37

I doubt we'll have a Green candidate here, sometimes there's no New Labour either. Perhaps as there's more controversy this time things will have looked up.

Iam64 Mon 05-May-14 09:09:56

The two adult children of a close friend are both standing at Green candidates locally, sadly not in my area. I think you may be right Aka, and I'd rather the disaffected voted Green to 'waste' a vote, than put their cross in the usual spot. It isn't a secret I'm a long term labour voter, but I'm so fed up with our (currently labour led) council, I would vote Green if we had a candidate.
The Ukip leaflet arrived yesterday. It promises more police, more money spent on the elderly, and cuts on council spending. Given we've already faced 25% cuts, I don't know how they plan to increase services yet decrease spending even further. As the leaflet doesn't tell us, I suspect they don't either.

I wonder with so few people having much faith in the three main parties, and many of those feeling unable to give the idiots in UKIP their vote, if perhaps the Green Party might do quite well and get the 'thinking-man's' vote.

NfkDumpling Mon 05-May-14 07:22:11

Just like to say I will not be voting for Mr Farage's party (is that a French name?) in the European elections because there's no point if they don't intend to turn up for work.

If Mr Cameron wants to stop UKIP he can easily do so by holding a referendum before the next general election. I wonder why he doesn't want to? He talks of renegotiation but nothing seems to be moving.

When we voted all those years ago on whether to go into the Common Market, it was for just that - a common market. Not to become one country. And certainly not one which has absorbed so many countries. We're not the only founder country which has a rebellious population who want out. It's getting out of hand and if things aren't renegotiated and sorted soon the whole thing will collapse.

Here in the South West the leading Green Party candidate is a doctor Aka - and having read the (mini) manifesto she'll be getting my vote.

Aka Sun 04-May-14 23:31:43

Oops! Just realised that the GP after the candidates names isn't an indication of their job but actually stands for Green Party. I thought there was a plethora of doctors standing for election confused

Aka Sun 04-May-14 23:25:25

I'd probably vote Green if there was a candidate standing. Their Partty Political Broadcast made me laugh. So far, nothing from any of the parties standing in our area. Not a flyer, not a peep.

durhamjen Sun 04-May-14 23:07:37

We may be voting for the same people, silverfish.

JessM Sun 04-May-14 16:09:18

It does rather seem though that the % of eccentrics amongst UKIP candidates is rather higher than other parties.
Would seem to be a wasted vote, voting UKIP in the EU elections as I believe that, if elected, they will not bother themselves to attend very often and vote on issues that might concern us.
This from an article in the Telegraph:

"Nigel Farage’s voting record places him at 759th out of 764. Those below him include the Ukip deputy leader, Paul Nuttall, at 760. Propping up the pile is Godfrey Bloom, who now sits as an independent following his "sluts" outburst."
So they will take a big salary and a pension when they leave for doing little work as an MEP

A vote for the Greens need not be wasted in the Euro election as seats are allotted in proportion to the votes cast per party.

If Zarka lives with her Mum, that's a fair bit of travelling for weekend visits unless he's a reprobate in the Dad stakes; does he pay maintenance for his child (as he clearly isn't involved in raising her day to day)? Many questions to be asked of Mr Parkes and his responsibililties wink

rosequartz Sun 04-May-14 15:07:48

Where does this child live, I wonder? Better off with Mum than Dad I would imagine!

HollyDaze Sun 04-May-14 15:00:20

Well, if Simon Parkes is to be believed, you may well know the offspring of aliens; he states that he is one of few people who will actually own up to it for fear of ridicule. The 53-year-old driving instructor said his wife was ‘unhappy’ about the alien affair but said he doesn’t see it as wrong as ‘it is not a human level’. Mr Parkes says he is beamed up for space sex four times a year by the extra-terrestrial he calls the Cat Queen and claims they have a child together called Zarka.

Here are more of his claims if you feel like a bit of light reading:

North Yorkshire may want to give some serious thought to their local elections ...

rosequartz Sat 03-May-14 20:47:38

I know a few people who must be the offspring of aliens.

Silverfish Sat 03-May-14 20:14:30

Actually im thinking of voting for the greens, we have a strong candidate here in Northumberland and Im into tree hugging, very interested in caring for our earth and conservation etc etc so yes I might give them my vote.

durhamjen Sat 03-May-14 00:09:20

Green party, silverfish. The only complaint against them seems to be that they will not get many seats so it's a wasted vote. However, that applies to most votes as very few parties get over 50% of any vote.
Or the NHA party if you live in an area where they putting up candidates, mainly London. Rufus Hound is standing for them. I'd quite like to see him get elected.

durhamjen Sat 03-May-14 00:03:25

I agree, rose. I can't understand why that is listed as unsavoury. At least he will not be accused of evading his responsibilities as a father! And he's not having an affair with somebody else's wife.

rosequartz Fri 02-May-14 23:06:23

Simon Parkes sounds the most sane to me. hmm

As far as I am concerned, HollyDaze, 'smears' are allegations; the link I posted deals with facts about UKIP that are a matter of record

As far as I'm concerned, the 'facts' are somewhat one-sided with no clarification of, or even reference t, the reasons UKIP may have had for their decision making on those matters. If the facts speak for themselves (which they generally don't), why were the reasons omitted from the article?

They all have nasty friends worldwide - it's been publicised enough so how does that make UKIP any different to any of the others?

Unsavoury characters:

Labour - Deborah Hopkins
Lib Dems - Ajit Atwal (for posing with an AK47 and then putting photo on his twitter page)
Labour - Yogalingam Dayanamby - falsely claiming council tax benefit
Tories - Dr Peter Moseley, was previously a member of the BNP
Lib Dems - John Larsen for setting off explosives along the Denbigh coastline
Labour - Simon Parkes has claimed he fathered a child with an alien he regularly meets up with for extra-terrestrial sex.
Tories - MP Aidan Burley, organised a Nazi-themed stag party at an Alpine ski resort
Tories - an MP’s aide, Stewart Green, was forced to resign for calling feminists “whingeing imbeciles” who “need a good slap.”
Tories - Councillor Chris Joannides was removed from the Party last week for sharing an “inappropriate” picture on Facebook that suggests burkas resembled binbags.

I could pull the rest of that article apart quite easily by highlighting that they are all guilty of the same thing. You may choose to believe that UKIP hold a monopoly on unsavoury characters and beliefs and that, of course, is your prerogative; I prefer a more balanced view.

rosequartz Fri 02-May-14 22:23:49

A lot of people seem to get very large pay-offs, pensions (plus a wonderful new job quite often) for abject failure nowadays.

hmm where can I get a job like that?
