I'm tempted by Nigel Farage !

I have always voted Conservative but for the first time in my life I feel tempted to vote Ukip.

I like the way NF is not frightened to say things other politicians daren't say, such as our island has too many people in it and not enough Services e.g. NHS to deal with us all.

I am only against the NUMBER of people who come here, not who they are or where they have come from.

I live in a town that has a great grammar school that gives opportunities to children from all backgrounds. Long may it continue.

We are so PC now in the UK I daren't voice some of my other thoughts in case I am quite unfairly accused of being against this or that group.

I find it a sad that the UK is no longer the country I remember from my childhood.

Umm. Absent was only following on from the previous post! grin

(She will now say she doesn't need me putting in a word for her [hmm)

I thought she meant which party leader would I most like to spend an evening in the pub with Ana. Silly me.

Ana Sat 01-Mar-14 18:42:44

And anyway, that wasn't the question, Absent hmm

jinglbellsfrocks Sat 01-Mar-14 18:38:19

I think the three main leaders do their best Absent. I would trust any one of them.

jinglbellsfrocks Sat 01-Mar-14 18:36:35

My opinion of him has gone up slightly since he said we should take some of the Syrian refugees. Would never vote for UKIP though. Not enough sound policies generally. And I'm still not at all sure they, or their followers, are n't a bit national front like. Or at least Little Englanders.

I don't want to spend an evening in the pub with a party leader. I don't want a new best friend; I want a competent, intelligent and honest politician doing a competent, intelligent and honest job.

Ana Sat 01-Mar-14 18:27:47

Definitely Nigel rather than Cameron, Clegg or Miliband! grin

rosequartz Sat 01-Mar-14 18:19:46

Which party leader would you most like to spend an evening in the pub with?
or With which etc etc

Just remembering the Bakeoff, where Bec was the contestant people would most like to go to the pub with even though she didn't win. And Nigel is not going to win either.

rosesarered Sat 01-Mar-14 17:26:47

All teeth and temptation! as they used to say.

Ana Sat 01-Mar-14 16:54:00

Same here, kitty! grin Not 'tempted by UKIP' but Nigel himself, apparently!

kittylester Sat 01-Mar-14 16:52:32

I'll be glad when this thread disappears as it makes me jump when I see anyone admitting to being 'tempted' by Nigel Farage. grin

As you were!!

Where do we go with this immigrant thing? Apart from the Celts are we all immigrants? And what happens if Scotland become independent? Will any Scots who want to move to other parts of the UK be considered immigrants?
I am sure most of us have immigrant ancestors if we do our research. Integration is the key thing and sometimes it takes a generation who have been through the school system in a country before this happens. Australia is a prime example of this.

Made me jump NanKate - NF- National Front...
Nigel Farage is not QUITE that bad ... but I am glad you've changed your mind. Sadly, too many will be taken in by his jovial face and stupid jokes.

NanKate Sat 01-Mar-14 15:17:54

Yes I am definitely a floating voter, with NF fading into the distance quickly after all I have read about him above. I think I have been taken in by his outgoing demeanour.

penguinpaperback Sat 01-Mar-14 12:48:40

Yes that's very true Mishap. Floating voters, hopefully, keep all parties on their toes.

Mishap Sat 01-Mar-14 10:45:38

NanKate - I wish you lots of luck in finding a party to suit you - I have never succeeded - but I m not a "joiner"! Slavish allegiance to one party seems a bit mindless to me - how can you possibly agree with everything they propound? It is sometimes amusing to see party members trying to pretend that they do.

sunseeker Sat 01-Mar-14 09:50:43

I have always considered UKIP to be National Front lite. Farage takes an atom of truth and spins a whole web of deceit around it. Yes there are a lot of people coming to this country - but the vast majority come here to work and make a contribution to our society, like durhamjens DILs. Newspapers like to headline the number coming just to take advantage of our benefits system but that is only a minority (and I say this as a DM reader shock).

There may be a case for vetting immigrants (like Australia and New Zealand do) but that vetting procedure will have to be very well thought out and conducted.

I don't give allegiance to any political party, but come election time I question the candidates not only on the policies of the party but also what that candidate is going to do for the local area. My current MP is a Tory and in my dealings with him he has always been helpful and accessible.

mollie65 Sat 01-Mar-14 08:10:46

what Farage does is highlight for many people what concerns them and which the mainstream parties studiously avoid even though it does concern so many people. for that UKIP serves a useful political purpose.

dollie Sat 01-Mar-14 08:00:03

Farage does talk sense but is it all hot air before the elections? Too many times we've been told by certain mps what they will do and they never carry the promises out..!!! They are all as bad as each other! angry

thatbags Sat 01-Mar-14 07:44:32

I think UKIP and the Greens serve a useful purpose as illustrating end points of the political spectrum.

NanKate Sat 01-Mar-14 07:34:55

Thanks for all your comments which I have read carefully and will consider before the next election.

To set the record straight the last thing that I am is racist. I taught a multi cultural group in adult education and loved it. It is only the number of immigrants that worry me.

I think that I am a bit naive where politics is concerned.

Because so many women fought hard so I could vote I will continue in my quest to find a party that suits me.
