I'm tempted by Nigel Farage !

Was it Nigel Farage – it was certainly a UKIP panjandrum – who decried women in politics and suggested that they should spend more time cleaning behind the fridge? I think every women in the country should spurn such an archaic viewpoint and UKIP.

Nobody realises my son's partner is an immigrant, Danish, until she tells them. Then they are usually quite taken aback as her English is perfect, along with the accent. She could never be taken for a Geordie, though.
My other son's wife is Spanish. Both teachers, both taking other people's jobs.
Should Ukip send them back home, NanKate?
They both took degrees here and stayed.

It is easy to look back and think things were 'better' in the good old days when more kids died in childhood, pea-soupers were common, cancer was certain early death etc etc!

Of course things change otherwise we would still be in caves! Not everything is perfect and we will sometimes 'miss' things from the past but we are a country made up of immigrants from Normans, Vikings, Romans et al onwards. But perhaps I would say that as my dad was an immigrant!

I am not, and have never been, tempted by the Conservative party and am even less tempted by UKIP.

In my childhood there were lots of immigrants.
However, no central heating, outdoor toilets, no cars, no clean air in the cities.
I do not want that back, although I would not mind having the NHS of my childhood.

There are two conferences on at the moment, Ukip and the Green Party. It was annoying on the BBC news that Ukip got much more coverage than the Green Party. Natalie Bennett was shown standing up to give her speech and that was it. Hope the Green Party complains.

I don't think they have ay policies that I have spotted.

Don't get tempted NanKate till you have quizzed them in minute detail to see if you can find the vestiges of a proper policy on any subject at all that might hold water in the real world.

They are one-trick ponies - that is no basis for government.

Change is always scary and our new multi-cultural society causes fear in some people - UKIP are simply playing on these fears in order to achieve power - and as we know, power corrupts. The world has changed and being sad that the country is not that of our childhoods gets us nowhere.

Does NF have any policies on Education, Health, Climate, Middle East, Childcare, Fuel & Energy, Communications, Pensions, Women, Rural Affairs etc etc?
There is a lot more to government than just the narrow policy platform he is known for. We do not hear about much else. I am sure it is on a website somewhere but tbh as I am not a fan of his European policy I am not looking!

Everyone says we must learn from history ..history tells me that in times of economic down turn a country can be drawn to nationalistic & extreme policies which lead a country into war that it can ill afford.

My ex said that at least UKIP were honest about what they thought and I had to agree with him about that [he is a long time Labour voter and always will be]. However, just because they say what they think it doesn't make what they think is right. Or just. Or stops it being racist or inflammatory.

I agree rosesarered the "softly softly" insidious agenda of extremism is sometimes missed until it is too late. NF's pronouncements about being halfeay home pn the zrain is the sort of arrant inflammatory tosh I can do without. I know what I might be tempted to do!

Just because things are not now as they were of yore, does not mean that we want UKIP in charge of anything. Yes, what NF says IS tempting to people[that's the secret of his success] just as Hitler's speeches were tempting to voters in the 20's and 30's.Or Moseley here in Britain.I do hope that people won't let UKIP in, little by little through the back door.
