Well you are all being very restrained - I have searched for a thread on this topic and can't seem to find one! So slimeball Clifford is getting his comeuppance at last. What a totally unpleasant, arrogant and nauseating character he always has been is. And how wonderfully ironic to be savaged by the gutter press red tops which in the past have promulgated his lies and distortions with such dedication. So they believed he was telling the truth then did they? Leopards and spots spring to mind.

Gosh jings, what a really neat solution! All we need is for 14 year olds to use some common sense and what? Adult criminal behaviour reduced?

jinglbellsfrocks Fri 02-May-14 19:23:59

I think the original post on this thread says a lot about how the media have also felt.

jinglbellsfrocks Fri 02-May-14 19:22:45

I don't think those girls were blameless. Not by a long chalk.

Quote: "When Clifford met a 15-year-old on holiday with her family in Spain, her parents encouraged her to pursue contact with him after being impressed by his name-dropping.

She said she was "blown away" when he told her she "could be the UK version" of Jodie Foster, and felt unable to say no when he asked her to take off her top and bra."

Really? Are we sure she just didn't want to see the pound signs fading away? And what kind of parents.... hmm

[Notso] I have just read your link . What a dreadful man. OK the crimes were committed a long time ago but he deserves the sentence that he has got and much more. I think that if the judge had been able he would have given him a much longer sentence.

jinglbellsfrocks Fri 02-May-14 19:15:34

penstemonn I agree. The blame lies with Cklifford. But at 14 she was old enough to use some commonsense. And I still think her parents have a lot to answer for.

annodomini Fri 02-May-14 19:02:57

Having just read through the judge's findings, I now feel more than slightly nauseated.

whenim64 Fri 02-May-14 18:23:11

They should be more careful, anno. If he doesn't comply and is still assessed as too risky to release on parole, he'll have to wait. Perhaps they're mixing up the rules with non-violent/sexual offenders who are starting to get automatic release, but it doesn't apply to Max Clifford.

annodomini Fri 02-May-14 18:15:28

The news flash on 5 live this afternoon did say 8 years with release on licence after 4 years.

Penstemmon Fri 02-May-14 17:51:33

Out on licence means that part of the sentence is carried out in the community and he can go back if he breaks conditions of release.

jingle what ever the circumstances the 14 yr old girl was a child and Max Clifford was an adult. She is NOT to blame HE IS! He knew he should not be having any sort of 'adult' physical contact with her..even if she had wanted to get involved he should have refused.

Notso Fri 02-May-14 17:29:03

The findings of the Judge describe just how evil and manipulative Clifford is.

BBC news not quite right - 4 years if granted parole at first opportunity.

whenim64 Fri 02-May-14 16:53:24

Should say treatment in prison, not our son!

whenim64 Fri 02-May-14 16:52:41

With an eight year sentence, he'll have time to complete sex offender treatment in our son (so no open conditions), and will then be on parole and expected to comply with any treatment if still not showing significant change in attitude. SSD will contribute to licence conditions about not being allowed access to children, so if there are any grandchildren, he'll either not see them or only be allowed if supervised. As a high profile case, multi-agency oversight of his risk will be reviewed frequently. I wouldn't fancy being his probation officer - such a wily character, he'll be a management nightmare!

annsixty Fri 02-May-14 16:43:49

BBC news says he will serve 4 years.I hope so.Although why give a sentence that is not carried out in full.I have never understood that.

Mishap Fri 02-May-14 16:28:00

Let us hope he serves the full sentence. It is very important that those in positions of power know that they are not above the law.

It is very disturbing that in these 3 cases (Clifford, Saville and Smith) that there were so many people who knew there was a problem but did not feel able to fight the might of a powerful person.

glammanana Fri 02-May-14 16:21:23

I wonder how long he will serve out of that or if he will be moved to an open type prison,he now has plenty of time to write a book about all his famous clients.

annodomini Fri 02-May-14 16:01:39

I heard a summary of the judge's remarks on the radio. He didn't pull his punches! I expect it will be in the papers tomorrow - probably on line by now.

KatyK Fri 02-May-14 15:06:45

He got 8 years. Apparently he was very arrogant throughout the trial.

Soutra Wed 30-Apr-14 17:31:41

Soutra Wed 30-Apr-14 17:29:50

feetlebaum Wed 30-Apr-14 15:28:04

@Ariadne - are you familiar with the French 'Pets de nonnes'? They really do have some odd names for edibles... their is soup called 'Gratte-cul' too...

whenim64 Wed 30-Apr-14 15:04:08

So, a 14 year old goes celeb chasing, wants some excitement, her parents might not know, or they might even encourage her thinking she has some talent and Max Clifford could help? Does that warrant being sexually assaulted? Rich pickings for a child abuser. It doesn't matter if she's cooperating or not. Children should be protected from sexual predators, not exploited. He thought he was immune, and if we don't keep investigating and prosecuting child abusers, they will keep finding vulnerable children to harm.

More children are being guided by their parents and teachers about touching they don't invite or welcome, and the industry has had quite a shake up about safeguarding children, but sexual predators will always look for vulnerable children to exploit.

jinglbellsfrocks Wed 30-Apr-14 14:55:12

So that fourteen year Wasn't just celeb chasing when? No seeking fame and fortune, or a taste of the showbiz life?

I wonder.

Doesn't, of course, excuse what he did. Just saying.

glammanana Wed 30-Apr-14 14:50:34

These men are so clever at what they do,I do know a lady who had an experience with a molester and she was more terrified of him telling her parents that she had instigated what was going on than the abuse she was undergoing with this "friend" of the family, she was convinced by him that her parents would believe him if things where said.To this day she has never ever told her parents what went on my heart goes out to her and others affected by these men.

whenim64 Wed 30-Apr-14 13:26:36

'Grooming' of children is a concept most people know about now. Planning, convincing parents the child is safe in their care, fooling the child into believing they must cooperate or they'll be in trouble or cause trouble for others. Naive children are no match for powerful adults with malicious intentions. That's why they go back.
