What do you think of his "use" of the 'n' word?

considering the context

Big fuss over nothing I think. He di try to blur the word over. grin

I agree, deedaa.

Riverwalk Fri 02-May-14 22:11:30

For those who feel free to use the N word in its full glory, on the grounds that a handful of black rappers do, would you ever describe someone as a mong, cretin, spaz, fag, dyke, cripple, queer, or any other charming title, because someone from that group had used the word? hmm

Ana Fri 02-May-14 22:13:27

My DGDs say 'fishy', which is daft as fish don't have 'em...

rosequartz Fri 02-May-14 22:13:32

I had no notion of racism either as a child, and only became aware of the offensive nature of the word and its connotations years later. It was always associated in my childish mind with a lovely shade of brown, and it was in later years that I was very embarrassed by my dear MIL asking for THAT particular shade of brown very loudly in M&S and refusing to be shushed. As she pointed out, she did not mean it in a derogatory way, rather that everyone should know what colour skirt she wanted!

Who has said they feel free to use the word nigger because a handful of black rappers do, river? No-one as far as I can see. There was a remark about it perhaps being better if no-one used offensive words.

rosequartz Fri 02-May-14 22:19:23

Soon we will not be allowed to buy faggots. Just because someone appropriates a word does not mean we should not be able to use it. Why should we not use the word queer in its old-fashioned sense, or for that matter the word gay. I knew girls at school called Gay.
I thought cretinism was a medical term.
I would not use any as a derogatory term.

merlotgran Fri 02-May-14 22:24:42

I agree with jingl. It's quite cruel. It sounds like,

Eeeny, meeny, miney, mo,
Catch a baby by its toe,
If it shits,
Wipe its bits,
Eeeny, meeny, miney, mo.

Poor baby.

Ana Fri 02-May-14 22:27:11

Did you just make that up, merlot? hmm

jinglbellsfrocks Fri 02-May-14 22:27:48

grin

Agus Fri 02-May-14 22:29:18

Absolutely not Riverwalk just as I would not condone the use of any derogatory, insulting or racist word.

jinglbellsfrocks Fri 02-May-14 22:29:56

Norty merlot.

She did make it up. Rude girl.

jinglbellsfrocks Fri 02-May-14 22:30:47

rosequartz Fri 02-May-14 22:34:28

That's upset me so much - poor baby. (Weeps into her wine)

Clarkson fell foul of me when the BSE thing first started. There was some footage of a cow suffering from it staggering around. Clarkson had some programme going at the time and showed it saying it was the funniest thing he had seen in ages. angry

Grannyknot Fri 02-May-14 22:40:49
