Here's an interesting blog by Jon Snow. He says what I have been saying - that Westminster politicians just don't understand the Scots and that the NO campaign is focusing almost entirely on negatives.

McSween sell their Haggis worldwide so you would be able to buy it online Brenda grin

Brendawymms Sun 07-Sept-14 09:04:55

If after independence if we buy a Haggis in Edinburgh will we have to declare it at customs when we return to England. grin ?

There are border posts between Northern Ireland and Eire so there is no reason why there would not be border posts between England and an Independent Scotland. There is a bit of fuss about this in the paper today but why not people would be crossing between two countries.
Yes Aka perhaps I am bitter. England is as much affected by this vote as Scotland but we have no say in it.

Much as I hope for a No win and hate the idea of Scotland leaving the UK, the benefits for the rest of us are beginning to grow on me!

Aka Sun 07-Sept-14 07:11:04

Bitter?

It's not long now to the day of polling by the people of Scotland on their wishes for the future. I hope they are happy with the outcome. In one way I hope it's a Yes and the UK government makes no agreements and off Scotland sails into its green and pleasant future. Remembering that the grass is not greener always in the new field!
If the vote is No the Scottish parliament will push for more and more power and devolution until it's independent in all but name. I also fear that A FEW in the Yes campaigners would be sore losers.
As a person living in England with no say what so ever with regards the outcome I feel very much that Scotland wants to be divorced from the rest of the UK. That somehow those of us south of the border are not worthy of being in the same club and are disenfranchised as valueless.
I am very sad and feel we are too small an island to be separated.

My DD and family live in Argyll and Bute as her DH used to be in the R.N. My DGC are settled in school there and my DD likes the school system better in Scotland. After much consideration she has decided to vote YES in the referendum. I have argued the case for "better together", but have had no success in changing her mind. She loves Scotland, and wants to make it her permanent home. She lives in a rural area and has been welcomed by her neighbours and accepted into the community. When I visited recently there were no placards of either side displayed anywhere around.

What will they think up next?

Yes I read about the MP Tegan his picture is in this link which also mentions a couple now moving back to England.
www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-2745565/Savage-racism-turning-Scotland-no-zone-English.html
Whatever the result how are the two sides ever going to live in harmony after all this?

Tegan Sat 06-Sept-14 10:04:53

The S.O. says that an MP [don't know his name] was going round Scotland recently campaigning for the 'No' side and had to give up because he was being pelted with eggs everywhere he went sad. I saw a lot of the Yes/No signs in fields when I was there the other week; it really upset me to see them.

Jane10 Sat 06-Sept-14 09:57:36

Driving around the Scottish Countryside last week we saw some No signs (there are far less of them that the ubiquitous Yes ones). They were in the middle of fields so the Yes people couldn't graffiti them- what I liked was the phrase used on them: " We are delighted to be united". A nice, accurate (for me anyway) positive statement. Gaun yersels the No campaign!

I am very sad today as there is a very aggressive picture of a Yes gentleman, compete with the blue yes hat on and his middle finger up, on the front page of The Times, Scotland edition.
I am sure there are aggressive "Nos" and I would be equally sad about that.
I do wish the press would butt out.
All this makes me quite frightened and I live in a sleepy little village in middle Scotland.

hmm

Aspen Fri 22-Aug-14 13:31:25

I hope you are serious Newist that the WM Gov. is going to use that slogan I can just imagine what a field day the Yessers will have with it!

I believe Saachi & Saachi is one of the advertising companies "Vote No" have employed for their campaign and they have produced a couple of corkers up to now. I love the one with the scroll with pledges on it signed by the trio and the "seal" at the bottom is their logo - "No Thanks" - which is the answer "Yes" voters keep sending them. It has been suggested they keep their Pledges to polish their desks when they leave.
