Britain needs council housing, jobs, a good minimum wage, and a decent old age pension.

The Tory's wont deliver because they dont care about ordinary people.

Oh for gods sake get over yourselves. I am not standing for parliament.

rosequartz. "New" Labour 1997- 2010, embraced Thatcher's free market throughout their 13 years in Government.

What Gordon Brown did was a mistake and we all make them. What Thatcher did was rotten to the core. She reduced the State pension, stopped building council housing, and privatised our utilities.

And even if I was standing for parliament, the very last place I would blow my trumpet would be on this site.

Are prospective candidates allowed to canvas on here? Albeit under a pseudonym? I still don't see the point of all his posts, as he was not advocating that we vote for any particular party (however, I did get a bit bored and didn't read them all properly). Rather it was just a hate-filled rant against the 'Tory's' (sic) and Margaret Thatcher who ceased to be Prime Minister in 1990. That is 24 years ago. Nearly a quarter of a century! Labour were in power for 13 years, surely long enough time to have started righting what they perceived as wrongs? Especially with all the money they gained from selling off all our gold reserves and stealing from our pensions.

He had nothing positive or constructive to say or suggest, rather just a whole lot of negatives which is NOT what Great Britain needs. We have enough people in power who are doing just that without more.

Ivanhoe please don't mislead us, intentional or not. Be upfront about your work. There's no problem with sharing political views, but you have good reason to be checking out the views of Gransnetters as many of us are in the age range your political campaign addresses. Peace! smile

I think what this country needs is a thriving economy and full employment so that lots of people can pay the taxes needed to fund all the benefits you quote.

Ana Mon 19-May-14 19:12:11

Yep, it's him all right. That use of 'Tory's' is a dead giveaway...hmm

whenim64 Mon 19-May-14 19:07:08

Misleading, if that's what's been said.

He claims to be a 'political campaigner, but not in a party'. Just a general complainer then...? hmm

mcem Mon 19-May-14 18:54:22

Thanks Galen. Having looked at the link I'm not much wiser. Am I right in thinking this is a one-trick pony job? No mention of education, housing, Europe etc etc. All I got was 'young people you'll be old one day'. Seriously, if I'm missing something significant, would Ivanhoe ( or someone who does get his message) please enlighten me? I need to be told how to vote on Thursday, in September and next year!

Ana Mon 19-May-14 18:44:11

Oh, it's OK I've found him now, if it is indeed the same Ivanhoe.

Ana Mon 19-May-14 18:40:18

Perhaps you could share your insider knowledge with the rest of us, when? confused

Galen Mon 19-May-14 18:32:22

Look at the IDS thread

mcem Mon 19-May-14 18:16:34

Campaigning for what, Nellie? I've only seen instructions that we must not vote Tory and Labour's no better. So do you know what is the message he's trying to get across? I'm asking you cos others asked Ivanhoe but didn't get straight answers.

Ivanhoe Mon 19-May-14 18:16:33

Whenim64, ""Should you be using Gransnet for this purpose, though? """"

No!

Nelliemoser Mon 19-May-14 18:10:35

This is sounding like using GN for political campaigning!

mcem Mon 19-May-14 18:10:31

Yes Aka I did pick up your point when you made it earlier but genuinely ended up wondering if it's some arcane way of making a point and an indicator to the initiated!
I would normally go along with the policy of polite non-correction but saw this as an exception.

whenim64 Mon 19-May-14 17:59:45

Busy man, Ivanhoe! I see you have written newspaper articles and made several YouTube videos putting forward your political agenda as a candidate. Should you be using Gransnet for this purpose, though? Or at least tell us, so we can judge your comments in an informed way?

By the way, I do agree with much of what you have said in those articles and videos, so no axe to grind.

rosequartz Mon 19-May-14 17:46:50

Well, I was going to point it out mcem, but refrained from doing so except in a very subtle way along with another poster on another thread.
I have been very restrained!

Aka Mon 19-May-14 17:11:50

hmm

Eats, shoots and leaves! Not bloody ears!

Aka Mon 19-May-14 17:10:59

mcem just saying

Ears, shoots and leaves!

Aka Mon 19-May-14 17:09:43

Newist if that is his reason for posting then it's having the opposite effect hmm

Aka Mon 19-May-14 17:08:16

mcem it is thought impolite to point out to posters their shortcomings re spelling or grammar, no matter how tempting.

mcem Mon 19-May-14 16:14:16

In an attempt to take over, Ivanhoe wades in to yet another thread.
I'm keen to see how he'll hijack the quilting thread.
I may be missing some subtle political point but is there a reason that you always refer to Tory's instead of Tories ?

Ivanhoe Mon 19-May-14 16:13:49

The reason the ultra right wing since Thatcher have not built council houses, and putting builders to work, is because they dont believe in providing jobs for people.

The Tory's are right wing economists, they are not democratic socialists.

Charleygirl Mon 19-May-14 16:00:51

I agree goldengirl. I have received leaflets from many parties, some I have not heard of but I have not seen a face at the door doing good old fashioned canvassing.

goldengirl Mon 19-May-14 15:47:25

Well all parties say they're going to do this, that and the other, but why don't they get in and DO it! They've had enough time to at least make a start - though quite on what I'm not sure as the goal posts seem to change with the wind. Surely 'enough lessons have been learned' by now. I'm not even sure I will be voting on Thursday. I'm not sure what I would be voting for. Leaflets are just not enough. And if candidates can't be bothered why should I?
