I walked over it in 2008 and there were just a few. Last year it sparkled and glowed like a giant exotic jewel in the sunshine, this photo doesn't do it any justice at all. I was amazed and thought how beautiful it looked. Although the bridges are architecturally graceful their structure is infilled by large sheets of wire mesh fencing, which is not at all beautiful.

I also rather like the affirmation of life aspect - lovers and tourists leaving their mark. However, the weight is all just too much for those mesh panels and the handrails and balustrades supporting them. I think there are going to be some very sad people all over the world.

Mind you, it's a good job it didn't fall onto one of the tourist boats. It is a shame though.

I noticed that love locks have started appearing on the Millenium Bridge in London now.

Now that one might be a bridge too far! grin Can you imagine if all the locks are put on just one side...

Then you have forgotten what it's like to be young and romantic and in luuuurve! It's a symbol of eternal love. Together forever. The locks have the initials and little hearts on them, often they have been engraved.
