Katie Hopkins on dementia patients

If Cari hadn't said those words were Katie Hopkins', I would have attributed them to my father. He would say 'just shoot me!' and if Dignitas had been operating here in the UK, he'd have gone there in a taxi and not bothered to leave a note to say where he was. There's a distinct lack of empathy and emotion, although she asserts her views passionately, but probably for effect.
If she was running a dementia care home, the patients would be going down the laundry shute. She's certainly found a niche for keeping herself in the spotlight. She must be a horrendous mother, I'm sorry to say - her lack of consideration for other people's feelings seems to apply to everyone.

Visiting elderly relatives is often depressing and very often you feel you're on a hiding to nothing but we do it and I suppose, in a way, we hope our children will want to do it for us.

My brother is recovering from cancer treatment so hasn't been to see mum since before Christmas. I've been keeping him updated via facebook pms and have made a point of stating the positive things, keeping it all upbeat as I felt he had enough to deal with. Mum's dementia is not disturbing, she isn't violent or agitated but just lives in her own little world.

How wrong I was, He went to see her yesterday and I had an e-mail from my Sis-in-Law last night telling me how upset he was to find her so frail (She's nearly 96 and bedridden!) She took a while to remember who he was because she hasn't seen him for months and has dementia. Apparently, he would have been better prepared if I'd been more honest.

I see mum twice a week, we listen to music, sing, eat maltesers and talk nonsense.

That's all it will be from now on - you have to accept the 'state' as it's not their fault.

As someone who is about to go and see my, sometimes, obnoxious mother I feel well qualified to comment. Katie Hopkins is an idiot!

I was shocked too by Ian Botham's revelation that he didn't go and see his father for the last six months of his life because he didn't want to remember him in that state.

Words fail me!

And making barbed remarks about the young people who are taking care of her.

The only way Katie makes any money is from being controversial. I don't believe that she even believes half of what she says. I can imagine her sitting at home thinking of something to say that will annoy people and get her on tv or a newspaper column. It's usually mums she insults and now it's the elderly. Silly woman doesn't she know we're all bored with her and don't give two hoots about her opinions. When she's old she'll be clinging to life kicking and screaming.

Just shows she knows absolutely nothing about dementia.

I have an aunt in excellent physical health who has been in a very nice care home for the past six years. She recognises me when she sees me and we have wonderfully surreal conversations. The fact that once I have gone she forgets I have been is immaterial to either of us.

Yes, she needs a lot of care but she is engaging and pleasant. What right has some ignorant woman like this to decide on the quality of life someone like that has. Unless you can inhabit the mind of the person with dementia you can not make any judgement on their quality of life. It may seem limited and unpleasant to her, but, to be honest, from my point of view, her life sounds very unattractive and lacking in value. Should we put her down?

What a lovely word Elegran "Doolallity" I love it, and have added it to my list of words I like to use.

I look forward to her getting a middle-aged spread and losing a few marbles. Not all of them, just enough to make her lose her confidence and be dependent on the goodwill of brash young clones of herself.

She is known as 'rent a mouth' Elegran and has upset many people with her rantings. I don't know anyone who takes her seriously and I personally ignore her. She thrives on publicity.

It's all a bit muddled, isn't it? It's like the ramblings of a stroppy teenager. Part of it seems to be about old people with dementia, but the rest is just a general rant against old people being 'in the way'!

Hard to get over-exercised about what this ignorant woman thinks or puts on Twitter...

Nothing much to say really is there? She has her opinion and I suppose she is entitled to air it. What do they say about publicity... it can never be bad?

How old is she, anyway?

Has she heard that "We are none of us infallible, not even the youngest of us" ?

Words fail me. According to her I have should have been put down fifteen years ago, before I got doolally. Really? No signs of doolallity or obnoxiousness yet. In me that is. I can still manage to hold a comprehensible conversation and put on my own clothes.

I still know more about everything and have more common sense and nous than she will ever absorb into that peabrain, if she lives to be a hundred. Oh, sorry, she will not be living to a hundred, she will have reached over and switched off her life support system by then.
