If Israel are the monsters here, why aren't they 'attacking' the West Bank? or attacking and invading other Arab countries? As far as I can see Israel only sends In the big guns when they themselves are under threat, which, lets face it, dozen of rockets being fired on your country year in year out, tunnels constructed with the sole purpose of causing murder and mayhem to your citizens would, I would have thought be deemed to be a threat! But perhaps I'm wrong!

Ariadne Sun 10-Aug-14 17:40:30

Probably.

dorsetpennt Sun 10-Aug-14 17:43:28

At last sense nigglynellie thank you I thought I was flogging several dead horses here and getting thoroughly upset in the process. Reuters has announced that 500 Yazidis have been murdered by Sunnis in Iraq, men, women and children - some buried alive. OK Glasgow have you an Iragi flag you care to fly or do you just save it for when you disagree with Israel ?

nigglynellie Sun 10-Aug-14 18:16:59

You're welcome dorsetpennt, and in answer to your question about the flag, I would say undoubtedly!!!!!

How can anyone defend Israel after what they've done, and will probably re-commence doing shortly?

Unbelievable. hmm

And it's a completely separate issue to what ISIS are doing.

jinglbellsfrocks Sun 10-Aug-14 18:26:39

"When not kept in check these nutters turn into groups like ISIS"

What a ridiculous thing to say!

jinglbellsfrocks Sun 10-Aug-14 18:29:11

Are you really saying that all the Palestinians that have been bombed out of their homes and livelihoods, as well as losing loved ones, are all evil, vicious thugs?

Think again.

Or just think. hmm

jinglbellsfrocks Sun 10-Aug-14 18:30:11

They are mostly ordinary people, like us.

Eloethan Sun 10-Aug-14 18:31:33

Israel likes to portray itself as the victim of Palestine but it is Israel that has ignored dozens of UN resolutions condemning its behaviour, both in relation to its treatment of the Palestinians and in relation to its incursions into neighbouring countries. Resolution 446 stated that Israel's settlements were a serious obstruction to peace and called on Israel to abide by the 4th Geneva Convention. Resolution 465 deplored Israel's settlements and asked member states not to assist Israel's settlement programme. Resolution 5 strongly deplored Israel's policies and practices denying human rights of Palestinians ...... and so it goes on.

The USA (with the unwavering support The Marshall Islands, Palau and other countries almost entirely reliant on the USA for aid) has vetoed any demands that action be taken. The US continues to back Israel and is the only country to vote against a UN resolution against the killing of civilians in Gaza and the setting up of a war crime enquiry (The UK abstained).

Did anyone see the little skeleton-thin donkey with a broken leg being beaten by it's owner? It was in Gaza. - I simply can't get it out of my mind and seems to sum up everything that is wrong with the world at the moment

merlotgran Sun 10-Aug-14 18:46:41

Not just at the moment, whitewave. When I lived in Aden in the fifties, Camels were treated extremely well as they were a valuable commodity but donkeys were often abused and starved.

merlotgran Sun 10-Aug-14 18:49:56

jingl, your post of 18:29. I don't think anyone is suggesting that all Palestinians are evil, vicious thugs but Hammas does not serve its people well.

jinglbellsfrocks Sun 10-Aug-14 19:05:27

Whatever Hamas does to the Israelis is a pin-prick compared to what is being done to the ordinary Palestinian people, by the Israelis.

To say that Palestinians need keeping in their place or else they will turn into ISIS types, is wrong.

jinglbellsfrocks Sun 10-Aug-14 19:07:58

For God's sake! Sod a fucking donkey! hmm

nigglynellie Sun 10-Aug-14 19:11:41

No, of course no one is suggesting that! What is suggested is that the government of Gaza (Hamas, a terrorist organisation) is deliberately antagonising it's much more powerful neighbour, failing to protect it's citizens against the inevitable reaction of that neighbour, unbelievably placing weapons of war in built up areas, hospital schools, and just about every public place, so that containing this antagonism is virtually impossible without causing carnage (what wonderful propaganda) and yet they are 'blameless'! What complete poppycock is that! and yes Isis, or I.S as they are now called infiltrating Gaza would be a worry, a big one, for Israel! as potentially having them as neighbours would send shivers down anyone spine! I have no trouble at all in defending Israel!
No, I didn't see the donkey, and I'm glad I didn't. Perhaps the awful treatment of animals sums up the treatment of people who don't fit the religious requirements of the moment!

jinglbellsfrocks Sun 10-Aug-14 19:12:53

Perhaps these pictures will get the donkey out of your mind

Eloethan Sun 10-Aug-14 19:15:13

The suffering of a donkey is, I think, very sad but for me it's the suffering of the children that takes precedence.

jinglbellsfrocks Sun 10-Aug-14 19:16:10

There can be no excuses. War crimes.

merlotgran Sun 10-Aug-14 19:21:16

Of course the suffering of children takes precedence but the human heart can also be saddened at the sight of cruelty to a defenceless animal.

merlotgran Sun 10-Aug-14 19:21:56

In fact I don't see why there has to be any precedence.

nigglynellie Sun 10-Aug-14 19:27:53

Are you for real - 'sod the donkey!' - Have you no pity for helpless abused creatures? - not even a little bit?! There are no excuses, just bare facts. Israel has been under rocket attacks for heaven knows how long without retaliation. Hamas has dug tunnels in order to cause terrorism inside Israel, their avowed intent is to wipe Israel and every Jew off the face of the earth, and they are blameless for the present catastrophe?!! What complete rubbish is that.

jinglbellsfrocks Sun 10-Aug-14 19:38:23

The ordinary people are not to blame and should n't be punished so horribly.

I hate to see cruelty to animals. But to mention a donkey in a thread about the suffering of humans... Well, no words really.

merlotgran Sun 10-Aug-14 19:42:12

The only reason we are not seeing death and devastation in Israel is because Israel protects its civilians

nigglynellie Sun 10-Aug-14 19:48:19

Yes that is exactly why we don't see the same devastation in Israel. 'As you say Israel protects it's citizens, Hamas actually use theirs as a weapon and propaganda headlines - what awful people they are!

Penstemmon Sun 10-Aug-14 20:04:02

Gaza has been under siege for years. The Gazans have suffered daily abuse and humiliation from the occupying forces. They have asked time and again for their land to be returned and for settlements to stop being built on land that theUN recognises as not belonging to Israel. Israel refuses to follow UN requests. When the oppressed country tries to fight back against a far more powerfu countryl and with more sophisticated weapons they are painted as the unreasonable ones. Tbh Pestinians have little left to lose. I understand how resistance forces can get support. I don't like it but I can understand how it has happened. The reason Israel wants Gaza is because itis coastal. West Bank is landlocked. Strategically Gaza is better land.
