Particularly the education of girls. Subjugation of women is one of the corner stones of the fanatics philosophy. An educated female is a fearsome prospect indeed and to be avoided at all costs!!

Sikhism seems to be almost unique in that equality of the sexes is fundamental. All men were enjoined to add 'Singh' to their names and women 'Kaur' - that's 'Prince' and 'Princess' respectively.

It seems from what I have heard and read that this was a tit-for-tat revenge killing rather than a blood-stained statement on education or the inferiority of girls. The school was mainly a place with children whose fathers (probably not mothers) are in the military who are responsible for the deaths of Taliban family members. Do not, however, accuse me of condoning this atrocious act. I deplore massacres of any sort – that should not need saying but there's always one.

I read the same, they were killing the children of the military. I have hardly read anything else about it though it's too sad. My SIL said the other day he felt disturbed by what had happened and couldn't get it off his mind all day. How will these people get past this, how unhinged will the children who survived become? There will probably be more violence, imagine living in such a hell hole.
