Quite rightly he's being suspended but should the BBC be cancelling episodes of Top Gear?

If a man working in a factory punches a colleague he would probably be sacked but I doubt they'd remove the product he was making from the shelves.

I read somewhere that it was Clarkson himself who 'reported' the fracas, whatever it was. That fits with the rumour that no formal complaint was made.

Just for clarity, I am not defending anyone; I'm attacking the silly hate fest on this thread. Some of you will hate certain people and twist what they say and do whatever it is. And you yell for justice at the same time. Justice is impartial. Just saying. I don't give a damn about Clarkson or Cameron but I do give a damn about justice.

Alleged eye witness account.

jinglbellsfrocks Fri 13-Mar-15 09:38:49

Btw durhamjen. in reply to your criticism of my good (or otherwise) taste, I wasn't grinning at the plight of those involved in car crashes. Just at any poster imagining the injuries she had seen throughout her long nursing career were down to Top Gear.

GrannyTwice Fri 13-Mar-15 09:43:48

Reporting yourself only means something if otherwise no one would know what you had done. In this case, as well as BBC employees, there were members of the public present. And stop being so disingenuous thatbags- of course DC has weighed in. It's being reported as support as he knew it would be.

"Just at any poster imagining the injuries she had seen throughout her long nursing career were down to Top Gear"

I think you are missing the point, which is that programmes that trivialise the dangers of speed run the risk of influencing young (particularly male) minds to the detriment of road safety.

Those of us who have been on the front line picking up the pieces that result from accidents are bound to feel more strongly about this.

I do not think there is a "hate fest" - some of just don't like him. That's how it is. I am not "yelling for justice" but simply saying that if he has assaulted someone (and we do not know the full facts) then he should have to face the full weight of our justice system; and also that some of his pronouncements should give the BBC pause for thought as to whether they wish to continue to employ him.

jinglbellsfrocks Fri 13-Mar-15 09:58:26

FGS Mishap. I wasn't continuing the argument there. Just putting folks right about what I was "grinning" at! hmm

Yes, mishap, and I've said exactly the same things about not knowing the full details and about what should happen if someone hits someone else at work. I don't 'like' Clarkson (not that I know him) either but that's irrelevant.

I don't 'like' David Cameron but I really don't think he's stupid and what he is reported as saying in the huffpo article seems fine to me. Saying your friend has talent isn't an interference in the justice process, it's a simple statement of fact as you see it. Several other publicly known people have said the same thing about Clarkson. Whether we agree with them is beside the point, just more irrelevance.

thatbags Fri 13-Mar-15 10:20:44

I think what I'm trying to get at is that it doesn't matter how we personally feel about Clarkson and the way he behaves and talks on Top Gear and yet a lot of the comments on this thread seem to be saying little else. There appears to me to be a great deal of partial judgment in spite of the fact that we don't know the full details.

I'm going to look at anno's link to an "alleged" eye witness account.

GrannyTwice Fri 13-Mar-15 10:28:58

Thatbags - 1) DC is first and foremost the PM 2) he has form in weighing in unwisely(see up thread) 3) he is stupid in many respects especially the company he keeps 4) he is the PM

thatbags Fri 13-Mar-15 10:29:20

This whole thing is about some fracas about which we know bugger all. I'm waiting to hear what the producer chappie has to say.

thatbags Fri 13-Mar-15 10:30:00

Thank you for that information G2.

GrannyTwice Fri 13-Mar-15 10:31:34

And also , I think many people - well me anyway- believe all too well that he did behave as alleged as it fits in perfectly with the whole pattern of his entitled up himself behaviour that we have come to know and despise.

GrannyTwice Fri 13-Mar-15 10:33:00

Oh come on bags- you know very well that a PM passing comment us nowhere near the same as Noel Edmonds

thatbags Fri 13-Mar-15 10:34:45

PS You forgot to mention that DC is also JC's ordinary everyday MP. I think MP's are allowed to comment on things that concern their own constituents. Hoping that something can be sorted out is the sort of thing an MP might say of any fracas between a constituent of his and someone else.

thatbags Fri 13-Mar-15 10:35:01

Sounds the same to me.

GrannyTwice Fri 13-Mar-15 10:35:15

As for the alleged witnesses - well... They did say they were excited to be staying in the same hotel as JC but that only throws doubt on their taste not their veracity

GrannyTwice Fri 13-Mar-15 10:40:14

He is first and foremost the PM - and come off it, imagine a local teacher is suspended for hitting a colleague 'allegedly' would local MP issue statement saying hope it's resolved soon my children will be heartbroken if he's sacked because they love his lessons? Of course he wouldn't . What he might do if he were a friend of the teacher is contact him and offer support or sympathy privately - which is all that DC should have done

thatbags Fri 13-Mar-15 10:40:24

Indeed.

I value emotional detachment in cases like this. A lot of the comments on this thread seem to lack it. That's all.

thatbags Fri 13-Mar-15 10:41:09

That was a reply to your last but one post, G2.

thatbags Fri 13-Mar-15 10:43:02

Does anyone know from whence the thumping allegation arose?

Jane10 Fri 13-Mar-15 10:45:48

I reckon the bottom line will be that Top Gear, as we know it, will be over. A massive financial loss for BBC. Another channel will set up another show as a "vehicle" for Jeremy's talents.
I was amused to read James May's comment- "Save Jeremy Clarkson? You'd be better saving cardboard and bits of string at least they are useful." I think this sums up the laddish humour of the whole programme.

Lilygran Fri 13-Mar-15 11:30:14

thatbags according to the BBC news website, Clarkson himself reported it.

jinglbellsfrocks Fri 13-Mar-15 11:54:24

I like James May's comment. "He's a bit of a knob but I quite like him". I think that's the way I feel about him. (And I guess half a million others do too)

Jane10 Fri 13-Mar-15 11:57:05

Me too jings!
