Quite rightly he's being suspended but should the BBC be cancelling episodes of Top Gear?

If a man working in a factory punches a colleague he would probably be sacked but I doubt they'd remove the product he was making from the shelves.

Why should our licence fee pay the salary for such an arrogant, obnoxious man. Surely it could be better used than keeping this man in employment.

Mishap Fri 13-Mar-15 16:39:05

I am not "blaming" TG directly for individual accidents, just deploring its attitude to speeding and expressing my concern about young people getting a false message about cars and running the risk of not taking their dangers as seriously as they should - this has the potential to cause accidents.

Ana Fri 13-Mar-15 16:17:05

I read that he reported the incident himself as he knew it would be leaked anyway, and he wanted to get his version in first.

Anniebach Fri 13-Mar-15 16:12:18

Gillybob, so do I smell a rat, why report himself if he wants to keep his job

KatyK Fri 13-Mar-15 16:10:43

I've just seen an interview with a family who were staying at the hotel when all this occurred. They said Clarkson was rude, obnoxious and offensive to the man he is alleged to have punched. They said it all happened in front of them and that Clarkson directed 'a 30 minute foul-mouthed tirade' towards the alleged victim, telling him he would have him sacked. They didn't mention a punch though.

I wouldnt have thought that is helps Ceesnan.

Ceesnan Fri 13-Mar-15 15:54:10

So if the likes of Top Gear are going to be blamed for people driving too fast, does that mean that Coronation Street/Eastenders/Emmerdale are to blame for the increasing number of people with drink problems? After all, they all seem to have a pub at the heart of them. Just wondering......

Ana Fri 13-Mar-15 14:57:10

Yes, indeed - and our young women! Many of the cars which overtake mine when I'm obeying the speed limit are driven by women.

Mishap Fri 13-Mar-15 14:44:49

I wish that it were possible to protect our young men from driving fast just by bringing them up well and advising them sensibly.

soontobe Fri 13-Mar-15 14:25:31

If he is looking for a way out, that is not a grown up way of doing it.

gillybob Fri 13-Mar-15 13:24:37

I smell a rat here. I wonder if JC is looking for a way out. Apparently Sky are chomping at the bit !

Anniebach Fri 13-Mar-15 13:21:24

Clarksons reported himself , his contract ends in sbout a month, wonder if offers are now on the table and he can wave them at the beeb , if so what fools he has made of those campaigning on his behalf for him to keep his job

jinglbellsfrocks Fri 13-Mar-15 11:57:08

TBH, I have often had misgivings about the speed aspects of the show. It's very difficult. confused I would hate it to go back to the old boring version of Top Gear.

Jane10 Fri 13-Mar-15 11:57:05

Me too jings!

jinglbellsfrocks Fri 13-Mar-15 11:54:24

I like James May's comment. "He's a bit of a knob but I quite like him". I think that's the way I feel about him. (And I guess half a million others do too)

Lilygran Fri 13-Mar-15 11:30:14

thatbags according to the BBC news website, Clarkson himself reported it.

Jane10 Fri 13-Mar-15 10:45:48

I reckon the bottom line will be that Top Gear, as we know it, will be over. A massive financial loss for BBC. Another channel will set up another show as a "vehicle" for Jeremy's talents.
I was amused to read James May's comment- "Save Jeremy Clarkson? You'd be better saving cardboard and bits of string at least they are useful." I think this sums up the laddish humour of the whole programme.

thatbags Fri 13-Mar-15 10:43:02

Does anyone know from whence the thumping allegation arose?

thatbags Fri 13-Mar-15 10:41:09

That was a reply to your last but one post, G2.

thatbags Fri 13-Mar-15 10:40:24

Indeed.

I value emotional detachment in cases like this. A lot of the comments on this thread seem to lack it. That's all.

GrannyTwice Fri 13-Mar-15 10:40:14

He is first and foremost the PM - and come off it, imagine a local teacher is suspended for hitting a colleague 'allegedly' would local MP issue statement saying hope it's resolved soon my children will be heartbroken if he's sacked because they love his lessons? Of course he wouldn't . What he might do if he were a friend of the teacher is contact him and offer support or sympathy privately - which is all that DC should have done

GrannyTwice Fri 13-Mar-15 10:35:15

As for the alleged witnesses - well... They did say they were excited to be staying in the same hotel as JC but that only throws doubt on their taste not their veracity

thatbags Fri 13-Mar-15 10:35:01

Sounds the same to me.

thatbags Fri 13-Mar-15 10:34:45

PS You forgot to mention that DC is also JC's ordinary everyday MP. I think MP's are allowed to comment on things that concern their own constituents. Hoping that something can be sorted out is the sort of thing an MP might say of any fracas between a constituent of his and someone else.

GrannyTwice Fri 13-Mar-15 10:33:00

Oh come on bags- you know very well that a PM passing comment us nowhere near the same as Noel Edmonds
