Quite rightly he's being suspended but should the BBC be cancelling episodes of Top Gear?

If a man working in a factory punches a colleague he would probably be sacked but I doubt they'd remove the product he was making from the shelves.

He'll be back.
Like Jonathan Woss.

I wonder if the young people in that car ever watched Top Gear. Isn't it a bit of a "wannabe young again" thing for mid-life men?

ffinnochio Wed 11-Mar-15 18:06:45

Whether one likes the man or not, disapproves of the amount he gets paid, or whatever he 'brings' to the programme on behalf of the BBC is immaterial. If someone is violent towards another in the workplace, as appears to be the case with JC, then he needs to be sacked, not given a mealy mouthed suspension.

Hear! Hear!

Anne58 Wed 11-Mar-15 18:08:40

Jingl , if I may quote you: "He makes a fantastic programme with the other two. The Beeb will be cutting of their nose to spite their face if they get rid of him. We need some bad boys. Life would be dull without"

Bad boys, perhaps, bullies and egocentrics, I think not.

The programme could continue without him, NO-ONE is indispensable.

People who thump others? No thanks.
Assuming he did it of course.

JessM Wed 11-Mar-15 18:16:32

BBC could give TG a makeover and include a female presenter? Sounds like a golden opportunity to me.

merlotgran Wed 11-Mar-15 18:25:59

I think that would be a good move, JessM

Jodie Kidd would be ideal but she has already said she'd never work with them.

Maybe she'd change her mind if Clarkson were not there.

I can't stand the man (what I know of him). If he has done what is alleged, he should be sacked. A friend saw him filming Top Gear last year and asked if she could have a photograph with him confused His reply was 'if you must'. She showed me the pic and he looked very displeased indeed. Still, at least he let her take it I suppose.

feetlebaum Wed 11-Mar-15 18:27:31

Didn't they have a female petrol-head at one time?

Clarkson is entertaining in the things of his that I have seen (I don't bother with Top Gear).

Mishap Wed 11-Mar-15 18:28:01

If he has hit a fellow worker then he must be sacked and he must be reported to the police for assault. As another poster has observed - let's not do another Jimmy Saville and have a celebrity who is outside the law that applies to the rest of us.

merlotgran Wed 11-Mar-15 18:29:57

Carol Thatcher was sacked from her spot on The One Show for saying somebody's hair looked like a Golliwog.

A silly remark maybe but nothing compared to Clarkson's racist comments and yet he has, until now, kept his job.

jinglbellsfrocks Wed 11-Mar-15 18:33:24

phoenix that was such a nice, and polite, way of quoting my post. smile

marigold1 Wed 11-Mar-15 18:48:19

All the fans of TG and Jeremy Clarkson bleating the BBC should reinstate him, and how unfair they (the fans) won't see the show on Sunday, if Jeremy Clarkson had kept his cool and not allegedly assaulted the producer the fans would see the show! Mr Clarkson, you brought this on all by yourself, no one is above the law, or a television programme.

Iam64 Wed 11-Mar-15 18:59:54

I googled half an hour ago and couldn't find a petition asking for JC to be sacked. I don't have the technical know how to start one - does anyone else? He should be sacked, as would anyone who hit a work colleague. Soon, the BBC news is now saying he hit the producer who hadn't arranged for food to be laid on.

jinglbellsfrocks Wed 11-Mar-15 19:05:28

Yes, that's what it was. At the end of a day on location. No hot food. hmm

Anne58 Wed 11-Mar-15 19:07:23

jingl if that was a genuine post, I thank you, if you were being sarky, then "tongue out emoticon" grin

jinglbellsfrocks Wed 11-Mar-15 19:13:59

Oh no! I was not being sarky! I genuinely thought it was a lovely way to do it.

jinglbellsfrocks Wed 11-Mar-15 19:15:35

That's the trouble these days, things sound sarky when they're not meant to be because phrases are often used in a sarky manner. IFSWIM

loopylou Wed 11-Mar-15 19:20:52

IFSWIM? confused

jinglbellsfrocks Wed 11-Mar-15 19:21:20

phoenix this is a tweet I saw yesterday, about saying thank you in writing.

VeryBritishProblems @SoVeryBritish · Mar 9

"Thanks a lot" - sounds sarcastic

"Thanks for that" - sounds annoyed

"Thanks a bunch" - sounds furious

grin

jinglbellsfrocks Wed 11-Mar-15 19:21:53

IYSWIM = if you see what I mean

jinglbellsfrocks Wed 11-Mar-15 19:22:37

(I got it wrong though, didn't I! hmm)

Liz46 Wed 11-Mar-15 19:24:58

Horrible man - get rid

GrannyTwice Wed 11-Mar-15 19:25:20

Just heard latest onC4 news. Helicopter waiting at end of filming to take them to hotel in York for food etc. JC sat in pub for 3 hours keeping it waiting. When they finally arrived at hotel, no food, punch. Clearly he was drunk as the skunk he is
