Quite rightly he's being suspended but should the BBC be cancelling episodes of Top Gear?

If a man working in a factory punches a colleague he would probably be sacked but I doubt they'd remove the product he was making from the shelves.

Exactly Anniebach-I TOTALLY agree- my post was in reply to those who have mentioned that if the attack lasted 30 seconds and Clarkson landed many punches, why was only the victim's lip hurt. Please read my post- I totally agree that there is NO excuse, only one criminal (GBH is a crime) and one vicitim here.

So sorry granjura, I misunderstood , my apologies .

granjura Thu 26-Mar-15 13:22:54

flowers so glad you can see it now, thanks.

Anya Thu 26-Mar-15 13:45:14

Jane when people over think things they usually deride the obvious as 'simplistic'

soontobe Thu 26-Mar-15 15:57:41

Someone had to pull him away. Jeremy Clarkson had presumably not stopped.

granjura Thu 26-Mar-15 16:28:12

And even then, instead of being contrite- he went on to insult the victim at length, using the most foul and insulting language available, on and on, and on.

I caught 5 minutes of Jeremy Vine's show on Radio 2 this lunchtime, and they were discussing this. I heard a caller from Liverpool said something along the lines of "this is what is wrong with men now". She wasn't talking about JK, but about the man he hit - she said that until recently, a normal man would just have whacked him back, and that would have been the end of it.

Interesting view.

rosequartz Thu 26-Mar-15 19:12:24

Interesting indeed!
The thought of men physically fighting at work until recently fills me with bemusement.

Ana Thu 26-Mar-15 19:23:11

The mind boggles! From what I've seen of Mr Tymon he seems rather a slight man, and I hate to think how much worse his injuries could have been if he had retaliated.

It's not as though this was an argument which got out of hand and led to fisticuffs, it was from all accounts just Jeremy Clarkson winding himself up into a massive temper tantrum and lashing out at the person he blamed for the fact that he couldn't have the steak he wanted.

campodol Fri 27-Mar-15 21:15:35

just heard Guy Martin is favorite to take over from Clarkson, if that is true i might even watch it

NanKate Fri 27-Mar-15 21:26:31

I might too * Campodol*. I first saw Guy Martin earlier this year in India driving some special motorbike. He was a nice young man, down to earth and very unlikely to punch anyone in the face. grin

campodol Fri 27-Mar-15 21:37:56

yes NanKate the opposite of the very disagreeable Mr Clarkson a welcome breath of fresh air

Anya Fri 27-Mar-15 22:33:44

Exactly, no one is irreplaceable.

crun Sun 29-Mar-15 13:31:19

Somebody's lost the plot. With a bit of luck it will make other TV Execs think twice before they hire him.

whitewave Sun 29-Mar-15 13:39:37

Has said JC indicated anywhere in the media that what is being said in his name should stop?

Iam64 Mon 30-Mar-15 08:48:29

The Daily Wail this morning is criticising the BBC for paying for bodyguards in response to a death threat against the DG. Given the reports being published again, about a similar threat against Jill Dando a week before she was murdered, what choice to the Beeb have? They have a duty of care to their staff and the police may just be a bit busy elsewhere…..

Deedaa Mon 30-Mar-15 18:37:07

Guy Martin is a nice enough chap but DH and I find we need subtitles to understand what he's saying.

pompa Mon 30-Mar-15 19:29:36

Great I love Guy, will start watching Top Gear again.

NanKate Wed 08-Apr-15 17:32:24

So JC has been brought back into the fold by being invited to host a couple of episodes of Have I Got News For You. hmm I bet he will get lots of applause when he comes on. I for one will miss one of my favourite programmes when he is chairman.

What weasels the BBC are.

Anne58 Wed 08-Apr-15 17:34:48

I agree Nankate , I too will be giving those episodes a miss.

Jane10 Wed 08-Apr-15 17:39:21

I won't!grin

Ana Wed 08-Apr-15 17:49:47

I won't either, I'm not cutting off my nose to spite my face! It'll be interesting to see how the rest of the panel behave towards him.

I think it was a long-standing booking, there was always the assumption that he'd be allowed to record the episodes of HIGNFY even when the BBC was umming and ahing about whether to renew his contract or not.

merlotgran Wed 08-Apr-15 18:10:21

I'll definitely watch it. Hislop and Merton will have a field day and Clarkson is very good on HIGNFY.

granjura Wed 08-Apr-15 18:13:46

the hypocrisy is just too big for words! Unbelievable!
