What are you hoping to see on this programme tonight? I have my fingers crossed that the presenter can keep order although it might be more fun if she can't and all hell is let loose!

Oh, why should Igranma suggest to her boys that they go into politics?! You are making too much of what she actually said.

durhamjen Sat 04-Apr-15 18:21:27

Sorry, did not mean to suggest that girls were any less capable of being politicians than boys. In fact my MP is a woman, and a good MP, too. However, it was you, Igranma, who only mentioned your boys in your post.
It's not for you to decide, but you can suggest, as you think people like them should represent us.
In fact many MPs in the North East are from families just like mine. I do not presume to know what your family is like.

Igranma Sat 04-Apr-15 18:15:07

We all choose our own paths, it's not for me to decide the way they go.

I don't only have boys, proud of them all!

durhamjen Sat 04-Apr-15 18:07:09

So why do you not suggest it to your boys, Igranma?

Igranma Sat 04-Apr-15 17:51:26

I'm proud of my boys, like many people they went to university & have good careers although not in the cutthroat business of politics. They are close & would stand together as a family, as been proven in the past.

I feel EM got the unions on his side by a lie, he said if they went on strike he would be with them, if he was, he must have been at least five miles behind because no one could see him.

Perhaps politics would be better if more ordinary upstanding people like our sons & daughters were representing us.

jinglbellsfrocks Sat 04-Apr-15 17:40:11

confused Where did she say that? hmm

GrannyTwice Sat 04-Apr-15 17:07:43

Well igranma are you telling us you have two sons who would have been capable of standing for the leadership of a major political party? Well done you!

Igranma Sat 04-Apr-15 16:23:00

Power!! They say its like a drug, & EM did stab his brother in the back!.
My boys would never do a thing like that.

rosequartz Sat 04-Apr-15 15:55:43

I am quite old!!

Igranma Sat 04-Apr-15 15:31:21

rosequartz your right,it was Pete Seeger! I bow to your superior knowledge.
As Soutra said I am a young Igranma.

whitewave Sat 04-Apr-15 15:25:10

Blimey! that is a bit tenuous isn't it?

Igranma Sat 04-Apr-15 15:22:48

Do you think EM got married because he hopes to win the election?.

whitewave Sat 04-Apr-15 15:22:29

Whether they do or don't use their children - it doesn't seem to be in very good taste somehow.

POGS Sat 04-Apr-15 15:10:24

Igranma

I suppose you make a valid point and I agree there are plenty of photos doing the round to prove your point.

I just don't think they use harrowing personal stories to score political points as some do.

rosequartz Sat 04-Apr-15 14:56:55

Surely it was the late great Pete Seeger?

Igranma Sat 04-Apr-15 14:40:44

Soutra, just remembered where I'd "heard when will they ever learn" it's from where have all the flowers gone, by Chris De Burgh.

They show off children to make us feel we're all the same, families with expenses, schooling problems ect.

So in a way they do " use" them.

I don't want to argue about such an emotional subject other than saying I have heard for myself what I posted.

I posted yesterday after seeing posts that mentioned David Cameron and all I did was try to balance the comments made by mentioning Gordon Brown and Ed Miliband ' in context'.

For clarity I posted this:-

"Can I just say with regards to Cameron and his family I agree it can be a annoying but Ed Miliband also used the birth of his children during the debate last night and Gordon Brown often spoke of his loss of his child too. I don't think any of them 'use' their children for self promotion nor playing the sympathy card as some eluded to. I just think they are trying to say, look I do have first hand knowledge of what the NHS means to the voter."

I did not nor do not use my words to imply crass behaviour or subject a grieving person to the bile some people do and if my words are taken that way I whole heartedly apologise, not least because it appears to give carte blanche for an open season by those who do find it fair game to attack an individual in such a manner.

The one you couldn't see if it was under a bucket - but such modesty in hiding your sense of humour is not something you have to worry about, jings The bucket wouldn't extinguish yours.

jinglbellsfrocks Sat 04-Apr-15 12:05:15

That doesn't make any sense. What light?

Charleygirl Sat 04-Apr-15 11:39:44

Soutra you took the words out of my mouth!

Soutra Sat 04-Apr-15 11:32:08

tbushocktbushock[

"Gathering her brows like gathering storm
Nursing her wrath to keep it warm"

Not worth it. tbusmile
