Have you noticed that, when 100 industrialists wrote a letter to the Telegraph supporting the Conservatives, it was all over the News channels, whereas a letter by 140 leading medics revealing the truth about the decline of the NHS, the BBC has been strangely reticent?

GrannyTwice I did not realise that David is your 'darling'

If I have ever said anything against him, I do apologise, so sorry!

Lilygran Wed 08-Apr-15 18:39:16

Thanks, durhamjen. I always read links if I'm interested in a thread. I also read the whole thread. I didn't a couple of times and found someone had already said what I said. Or I was at cross purposes.

The non doms actually live here - confused Some of them were born here ( like Zac Goldsmith) who inherited his non dom status from his foreign born father ( you can't inherit it from your mother shock. Zac gave his up after pressure from DC when he wanted to be an MP

No, not everyone ignores DJ's links! They are informative and point us in directions we might not have taken. Sometimes it's "The road less travelled" but for me, that is a good thing. Sometimes they take a bit of careful pondering..smile

I wore pink on the golf course today I shall make a point of doing so on Polling Day - pity I haven't got a red sweater really.

durhamjen Wed 08-Apr-15 17:45:17

Richard Murphy talking on channel 130 now.

durhamjen Wed 08-Apr-15 17:43:11

If you read some of the replies to it, you will see why Richard Bacon was so annoyed.

durhamjen Wed 08-Apr-15 17:40:31

Watch this, Lilygran. It's a Tory MP on the public accounts committee talking about non-doms.

Lilygran Wed 08-Apr-15 17:31:57

I don't understand the non-dom thing at all. Are they paying tax in their country of domicile? If they are, should they have to pay tax here as well? An American friend was complaining bitterly recently that American citizens have to pay tax in the USA on their income abroad. When we were ex-pats, we paid tax on our income where we earned it. And local taxes where we lived.

I have never got on with radio.

Ideally I would like to just read about political stuff on gransnet. But I dont understand it without asking questions.
I am right back to my first post, for the second time this thread.

soontobe Wed 08-Apr-15 17:04:33

dj - I dont know if I understand! Because no one will confirm or deny what I have written! So you tell me!
[I deliberately ignore all your links now, as you are aware. I suspect others do too.]
I dont think that others want to do too much background work, myself included.
Oh well. I reap what I sow I for one refuse to invest too much time in political stuff.

durhamjen Wed 08-Apr-15 16:51:06

Soon, I thought you said you were out of it until you understood it. You clearly do not yet as you are saying you do not understand. Make your mind up!

Anno, I put a link to both articles yesterday on another thread. It was ignored.
Interestingly in the i today it said that the Tories leaked the letter in an apparent bid to pre-empt its release.
The party condemned the letter saying it was a "desperate attempt to weaponise the NHS."
That word again. They forget it was Osborne that first used the term.

Perhaps some on here ought to look at the backgrounds of BBC political reporters before accusing the Beeb of left-wing bias all the time. The majority of their reporters are right wing. Paxman has been asked to stand as Tory candidate for London and MP for Kensington and Chelsea. He declined both, but is still right wing. Lansdale was at Eton with Cameron.

GrannyTwice Wed 08-Apr-15 16:47:40

The best ( ie most informed, in depth , balanced ) programmes are on R4 - Analysis, Face the Facts, The Report etc and their audiences are pitifully small

Ana Wed 08-Apr-15 16:47:08

No, there is that as well! grin

GrannyTwice Wed 08-Apr-15 16:45:19

Ana - but the bankers, non doms wouldn't take part would they?

soontobe Wed 08-Apr-15 16:42:08

I think they should definitely have reported it.
And I dont understand why there hasnt been a programme/documentary about NHS privitisation. Parts of our nearest hospital have bits put out to tender.

soontobe Wed 08-Apr-15 16:40:16

And that the BBC are not left.
In fact right. So are not saying about the doctors letters.
Which implies that the doctors are right wing.
Having paused for a moment, no, left wing.

soontobe Wed 08-Apr-15 16:37:09

So people are saying that the BBC producers are daft?

Ana Wed 08-Apr-15 16:32:39

Well, a reality tv show about bankers wouldn't attract many viewers, would it? grin

There's plenty of stuff in the press about bankers, the super-rich, non-doms and companies that don't pay enough tax though.

Greenfinch Wed 08-Apr-15 16:16:45

All I can say about the media in general is that there are lots of programmes about so-called benefit cheats and "scroungers" and very little about bankers etc. We must draw our own conclusions.

GrannyTwice Wed 08-Apr-15 16:14:36

Soon wink. wink

soontobe Wed 08-Apr-15 15:51:52

I am still completely baffled by the entire thread.
So until I understand it, I am out of it.

amarmai Wed 08-Apr-15 15:45:55

I just was told by the radio to wear pink today-think it's anti homophobia day. Anyway pink is my favourite color.

jo1book Wed 08-Apr-15 15:35:34

Better Teetime than being called a Pinko.

GrannyTwice Wed 08-Apr-15 15:33:39

Shouting at you rose? You used Stafford to sum up the whole NHS under Labour. This was clearly ludicrous so I said so. How come that is shouting? If you make comments as you did, you must expect a riposte- did you really think it should go unchallenged. Are you trying to say that all is perfect on the NHS front now after 5 years odd Darling David?
