Have you noticed that, when 100 industrialists wrote a letter to the Telegraph supporting the Conservatives, it was all over the News channels, whereas a letter by 140 leading medics revealing the truth about the decline of the NHS, the BBC has been strangely reticent?

True. Do you have a theory?

GrannyTwice Wed 08-Apr-15 10:05:31

Ooohhhh soon, lose that innocent look!

GrannyTwice Wed 08-Apr-15 10:22:33

Anno - I really don't know what you are implying. Everyone knows that the BBC is full of lefties....

Anniebach Wed 08-Apr-15 10:37:48

Unfair to the beeb, just because a labour government would tax those on the beeb gravy train more doesn't mean they would be biased against a labour government . Would it?

soontobe Wed 08-Apr-15 11:16:11

Right. Now for this thread.

GT. I know that the BBC is supposed to be full of lefties.
Other than that, I am at a complete loss about all the posts on here.
So I will happily ask again. What is annodomini saying?

I do think that some gransnetters, [and I in no way am just saying you GT], do not realise that for many people, mysel included, some politics is way above our heads.
And since voting is open to all over 18, I really do think that some people need to explain things better, and not just hope that 80% of the population or so understand much of what is going on. Which they dont.
Or do some people think voting should be exclusive in some way?

soontobe Wed 08-Apr-15 11:18:02

I am not meaning you annodomini either.
But most of us dont know all nuances.

GrannyTwice Wed 08-Apr-15 11:57:03

Ok soon - here goes. When 100 business leaders signed the letter supporting the Tories, the BBC gave it a lot of publicity. When 140 doctors signed a letter saying how the NhS was withering under the Tories, the BBC has been silent on this.

rosequartz Wed 08-Apr-15 11:57:19

Oh dear oh dear oh dear

Does no-one remember what happened to the NHS under the last labour administration?
Stafford etc
And soon you are not the only one to be confused

rosequartz Wed 08-Apr-15 11:58:22

Now it has been explained I am even more confused

I would have thought it would be right up the BBC's street to report this in full ad nauseum.

GrannyTwice Wed 08-Apr-15 12:02:01

Stafford was terrible - but the idea that this sums up the NHS under the last Labour Government is ridiculous. The NHS that the Tories bequeathed in 1997 was in a terrible state. Who brought in the 2 week rule of cancer referrals for example? Have you the slightest idea how GP cancer referrals were dealt with before that?

Ana Wed 08-Apr-15 12:08:22

Never mind, ITV has covered it. I'm sure the BBC will catch up eventually.

soontobe Wed 08-Apr-15 12:08:40

Thank you for the explanation.
I am with rq though - we still dont understand! smile. Sorry.

Are you saying that the BBC are in fact Torie?
Or sometimes Torie?
Or want to be seen asTorie?
Or it is about doctors[no idea if they are seen as Torie or left or liberal or whatever].
Or that the BBC are neither left or right?
Or have changed recently or this time around?
Or the BBC want the NHS broken up?
Or something else entirely?

GrannyTwice Wed 08-Apr-15 12:15:36

Now I'm confused

GrannyTwice Wed 08-Apr-15 12:16:52

Actually you know I'm not even sure I'm in favour of letters like this anyway - either of them.

rosequartz Wed 08-Apr-15 13:58:42

GT don't shout at me like that as if I am stupid, and yes, our family has had experience of the NHS since its inception so I do have the slightest idea, and yes we have had experience of cancer referrals and we had relatives in Stafford Hospital and other friends and family who refused to go near the place so went to other filthy hospitals where they caught infections at that time, and have you never heard of PFIs and how they are now beggaring the NHS?
And one of the same relatives has been back to hospital recently and had the most wonderful care.

So I can only speak from experience.

jo1book Wed 08-Apr-15 14:04:46

I feel (correct me if I am wrong) that most medics would like a labour government as they get more money out of them!

Lilygran Wed 08-Apr-15 14:10:57

I don't understand why the letter from the doctors wasn't given more coverage either. I don't understand why the BBC One O'clock news had five minutes on Tiger Woods. The news producers seem quite confused about what constitutes news and what constitutes comment, and equally confused about the difference between news and gossip.

annodomini Wed 08-Apr-15 14:59:07

Thank you Lilygran. Nice to be understood! I didn't think that my OP was in the least "nuanced", though I appear to have missed out a word that might have clarified the issue. Glad GT put it, if not in words of one syllable, perhaps more clearly than I did.

GillT57 Wed 08-Apr-15 15:02:45

Until the owners of the Telegraph start paying taxes as they should, I am not taking any notice of what they report anyway. They are so bad that one of their own reporters quit.

jo1book Wed 08-Apr-15 15:05:36

Only about 42% of voters put the NHS in the top three of election topics. I think the old (understandably) have more interest in health than the young.

Teetime Wed 08-Apr-15 15:26:49

'Full of lefties' you say it like its a bad thing. This clearly Leftist. I suppose you would call me a Leftie as I vote Labour- does that make me a Leftie? I'm hurt. I sound like something unpleasant.

GrannyTwice Wed 08-Apr-15 15:33:39

Shouting at you rose? You used Stafford to sum up the whole NHS under Labour. This was clearly ludicrous so I said so. How come that is shouting? If you make comments as you did, you must expect a riposte- did you really think it should go unchallenged. Are you trying to say that all is perfect on the NHS front now after 5 years odd Darling David?

jo1book Wed 08-Apr-15 15:35:34

Better Teetime than being called a Pinko.

amarmai Wed 08-Apr-15 15:45:55

I just was told by the radio to wear pink today-think it's anti homophobia day. Anyway pink is my favourite color.
