Out of the EU? (just for fun)

If we pull out of Europe after the referendum what will bother you most?
I don't understand all the regulations and rules, but I think it is fun to speculate on what you will miss the most, or what worries you most. I have 3. In no particular order;
Will my local Italian deli close because the owner has to leave?
How much booze will I be able to bring home when I go on holiday?
Will my DSs Polish girlfriend be sent home?

Oh, I know the referendum's on the cards, but if DC manages to get enough concessions from the EU to placate the UK anti-EU brigade then the result might not be the foregone conclusion that the doom and gloomers are predicting.

Not at all, the facts were posted here and got responses GrannyTwice.
Just as you have responded to others on this post and others.

GrannyTwice Mon 11-May-15 20:51:22

I think you're getting a bit personal loopy and Ana

GrannyTwice Mon 11-May-15 20:50:24

Whether the referendum will actually go ahead? Seriously?

loopylou Mon 11-May-15 20:47:43

That's possibly what you get Ana when extreme views are stated as 'facts'.
Poor little lad, very sad and totally unnecessary IMO.

Ana Mon 11-May-15 20:43:28

Aside from the question of whether the referendum will actually go ahead, and what the result would be, I think it's distasteful to use a child's reaction to what he's obviously picked up during family discussions to illustrate one's case, especially as the obvious solution to his distress is dismissed out of hand.

Look on the bright side. If they get deported it's not that far to travel to go to see them. Our friends pop over to Denmark frequently to see her DB and SIL. And it's such a lovely place to visit.
It's not like going to the other side of the world.

I know several Danish and Spanish people who live and work over here (amongst other nationalities) and I have never heard that they have had any problem whatsoever with racist undercurrents.

The days of fear of marauding Vikings are long forgotten I would have thought.
I know one or two people who are very proud of their Viking heritage, despite the fact that they have Dupuytren's contracture.

loopylou Mon 11-May-15 20:29:38

Exactly jingl
I imagine the European Courts of Human Rights just might be a teeny bit interested if certain posters' 'facts' came to be even 1% factual!

Ana Mon 11-May-15 20:28:11

Exactly. But that won't stop this thread from getting more and more ridiculous!

jinglbellsfrocks Mon 11-May-15 20:27:29

That was in response to GT's post.

loopylou Mon 11-May-15 20:27:12

I stand by what I said blatant scaremongering full stop soon
And bulls..t too angry

jinglbellsfrocks Mon 11-May-15 20:26:06

There will be loadsof information put out to the public before a referendum goes ahead! I am sure we will all be thoroughly educated about the ins and outs of it before it happens.

Riverwalk Mon 11-May-15 20:24:46

Is Durham (assuming that you live there) such a hostile place for Danes?

Is there such xenophobia that even your young GS picks up on it and is worried for his family?

I can't for the life of me imagine a scenario whereby Danes will be deported!

soontobe Mon 11-May-15 20:23:45

ll - I agree. I googled too, and couldnt find anything about what is being discussed here. re deportation.
People shouldnt get themselves worked up about nothing whatsoever.

I do hope people are not scaremongering. hmm
And I would be very very annoyed indeed if any posters whatsoever were doing that.

rosequartz Mon 11-May-15 20:22:50

Did you see the link I posted re your DGS and his citizenship djen

It could be helpful, I hope so.
I think it is good to have dual nationality if possible.

loopylou Mon 11-May-15 20:20:38

So just where have the Conservatives said they will hold a referendum without providing information on what this would mean for British citizens living in EU countries and EU citizens living here!

Ana Mon 11-May-15 20:15:53

It would cost them next to nothing to get married.

If a big, fancy wedding is so important then I feel very sorry for them all.

Ana Mon 11-May-15 20:13:24

Blimey, I feel like Jeremy Paxman attempting to extract a straight answer from Michael Howard!

durhamjen Mon 11-May-15 20:13:17

Are you suggesting, Ana, that we stop him watching the news for the next two years? Stop him looking at newspapers?
Obviously his parents have talked about people not wanting foreigners to live here. It affects them as a family.
They cannot afford to get married yet. That's more than you need to know.
Until this government was re-elected last week, there was no fear of having to move abroad.

GrannyTwice Mon 11-May-15 20:12:36

And if your DIL hasn't got British Citizenship, perhaps she should think about it sharpish

rosequartz Mon 11-May-15 20:11:52

Anyway, there is no need for them to get married if I am reading that link correctly, but I am starting to get brain fuzz now, so djen you will have to read it for yourself and decide if it applies to your DGS.

rosequartz Mon 11-May-15 20:10:36

I am a bit confused too

GrannyTwice Mon 11-May-15 20:10:30

Actually loopy what's irresponsible is a political party ie the Conservatives saying they will hold a referendum on leaving the EU without providing information on what this would mean for British citizens living in EU countries and EU citizens living here. But of course they didn't want to go into all this because it just underlies one aspect of the huge complexity of leaving the EU. Where there's a vacuum, it will be filled. Getting worried like this might encourage people to write to their MPs and ask for some answers. One if the big issues around leaving the EU is about being able to control migration within the EU so why on earth is it fanciful to wonder and be concerned about what might happen to EU citizens currently living here?

rosequartz Mon 11-May-15 20:09:38

I care about them all, rose
but no-one seems to shout about Commonwealth citizens being deported.

It probably won't apply in our case because atm they would have absolutely no intention of living here.
