A very long Queen's Speech, but I'd rather have this one than the one we are going to get.

However, at least repeal of the Human Rights Act should not be heard today.

But I agree, the whole thing has been dreadfully mismanaged by GNHQ and has done them no favours. I've never known them move so fast as they did when deleting GT's 'alternative' Queen's Speech thread!

Bizarre.

Ana Wed 27-May-15 19:51:38

Brace yourself, Mumsnet! grin

GrannyTwice Wed 27-May-15 19:45:14

Anno - what was wrong with my starting a thread called The real Queens Speech Thread - a bit goady but deserved I think after that HofC rubbish. Why is it ok for HQ to hijack a thread and not for me to try to establish one to discuss it properly? The fluffy kitten was after that. I'm disappointed with this lily liveried response ( of most but not all posters ) to HQ's behaviour. I actually found the Hof C posts anodyne and patronising and as soon said full of easily googlable info . Let yourselves be taken over by all this - I'm off. I hear the chorus of good riddance as I close the door - I'll live with that and go and play with the grown ups

whitewave Wed 27-May-15 19:40:42

G2 Well at the very least they (GNHQ) owe you an explanation. Surely their manners extend to that?!

loopylou Wed 27-May-15 19:39:42

You're being deliberately provocative GT, not surprising GN not playing ball grin

annodomini Wed 27-May-15 19:28:51

Well, start another thread and debate it, trying not to come to blows! You could call it something different.

GrannyTwice Wed 27-May-15 19:24:42

I tried whitewave - they deleted me - I didn't see why I should use a hijacked thread

GrannyTwice Wed 27-May-15 19:23:14

Well it must be nearly their bedtime!

Ana Wed 27-May-15 19:15:39

Lucinda and Jo have probably clocked off now anyway! grin

Ana Wed 27-May-15 19:14:25

Well, if we accept what soon and loopy assume, perhaps we should just discuss the points made in the QS on this thread?

They're not likely to delete their own thread, are they?

whitewave Wed 27-May-15 19:11:51

So why aren't you debating the Queen's speech I seem to have missed all this! confused

GrannyTwice Wed 27-May-15 19:09:41

It's just so not fair - I've been over to MN and they are being allowed to discuss the contents of the Queens Speech without having the HofC foistered on them. Ah well I suppose they are cleverer and better informed than us and wouldn't put up with it

loopylou Wed 27-May-15 19:01:18

That's my take on it too soon.......

GrannyTwice Wed 27-May-15 18:59:39

Yes soon but the thread was hijacked by HQ - that's very different from one of us hijacking it and they were also misleading

GrannyTwice Wed 27-May-15 18:57:31

dj - where are you? Aren't you frothing at the hijacking of your thread by who knows? Because I dont.

soontobe Wed 27-May-15 18:55:33

ll - they appear just to write things that are googlable.

I presume that anyone who wants to discuss the speech is perfectly at liberty to on this thread.

Ana Wed 27-May-15 18:54:55

loopy, I agree that what LaraGransnet said and implied was misleading.

GrannyTwice Wed 27-May-15 18:52:51

I don't want to ask any questions on the Queens Speech I want to debate it's content- they shouldn't have hijacked DJs thread, they should have started one titled 'any questions on the mechanics and procedures around the Queens speech that are nothing to do with content'

Ana Wed 27-May-15 18:52:09

"We are politically neutral and cannot comment on the policies of the Government."

From the OP (not durhamjen's of course).

loopylou Wed 27-May-15 18:49:08

LaraGransnet clearly says they are there to answer your questions on the The Queen's Speech
Have you tried asking specific questions - apologies if you have and I've not seen them

GrannyTwice Wed 27-May-15 18:44:53

Gracesgran - your question on select committees was incredibly important and of course incredibly political so the HofC ( whatever that means) couldn't answer it. Here is the answer - select committees are one of the best things to happen to our legislature ever ( after universal franchise of course). They really hold the executive to accout and have done some sterling work questioning and highlighting government policy. The chairs are elected and not in the gift of the government and you tend to get very well informed MPs of all parties on them. The previous system was as nothing in comparison . It's the one thing I sometimes watch live as you can get some wonderful unscripted comments and reactions

Ana Wed 27-May-15 18:41:34

So we are actually forbidden from discussing anything in the Queen's Speech on Gransnet. Full stop.

Why?

Ana Wed 27-May-15 18:39:48

loopylou, the HOC representatives aren't offering information on anything other than HOC procedure. They aren't able to answer specific questions on proposed policies etc., nor are they here to discuss anything.

GrannyTwice Wed 27-May-15 18:36:43

Well they appear to have deleted fluffy kittens - very sad. They really have no sense of humour have they?

GrannyTwice Wed 27-May-15 18:34:03

Loopy the posts on this thread were nothing to do with the Queens Speech in any meaningful sense. So I started a new thread and HQ deleted it . Why can't we have a debate about the QS on another thread and leave this one to information giving? Some of us want to debate the issues
