Not that I am suggesting such a thing, but here is a thought-provoking article from the Guardian :
www.theguardian.com/commentisfree/2015/jun/01/david-cameron-moriarty-downing-street-radical-thatcher

(For those who don't like links, the title of this thread gives a good clue, so you can just go from there. smile)

Well, it's sad if that's really what you think whitewave...

annodomini Tue 23-Jun-15 19:23:59

whitewave grin

whitewave Tue 23-Jun-15 19:08:13

Blimey I must be loosing my touchblush

Ana Tue 23-Jun-15 19:02:13

whitewave, you are one of the few left-leaners who regularly post on here with whom it is possible to have a sensible and reasoned discussion without anyone resorting to sarcasm and/or childish insults smile

Ana Tue 23-Jun-15 18:56:15

Eh? confused

soontobe Tue 23-Jun-15 18:54:21

I dont think that debate is stifled. More that a lot of posters cannot be bothered to put in som much effort.
When the election happened, I had wondered if that was such a good idea.
But I am very glad I didnt now! grin

soontobe Tue 23-Jun-15 18:51:45

Posters are reading and listening to you grannyonce. Lurkers too.

soontobe Tue 23-Jun-15 18:50:39

I dont want you to give up posting either grannyonce.

whitewave Tue 23-Jun-15 18:48:51

But if what a government is doing of whatever colour is something of which you profoundly disagree, how can you ignore it? The point is that what any other political party would have done is academic we can only discuss what is being done and the possible affect it will have on others. In a debate contributors will agree and disagree with each other G1 that is how it works so don't be cross wink

FarNorth Tue 23-Jun-15 18:41:36

grannyonce I'm sorry to hear you've given up. I hope you will reconsider as I, for one, would be very interested to hear about politics and news from another side.

Ana Tue 23-Jun-15 18:38:56

It's always been like that on GN, grannyonce.

I almost wish Labour had won the election to see how far they'd bend over backwards to support and applaud even the most ludicrous of policies...hmm

People's Assembly answer to the budget.

grannyonce Tue 23-Jun-15 18:24:28

why do all the threads in News and Politics end up with the same set of posters in a 'love-in' (if that word can be applied to political point scoring) each agreeing with each other.
I have given up even thinking of offering an alternative view on these threads and leave them to it (except for this post of course grin)
very sad that it stifles sensible debate and seeing politics and news from another side.

durhamjen Tue 23-Jun-15 18:15:17

Agree, trisher. I noticed that lower taxes came into Cameron's list yesterday. Not just lower taxes for the poor, but overall.

trisher Tue 23-Jun-15 18:12:29

Maybe some of his 'friends' are a bit hard up? (Come on Giddy old fellow do us a budget and drop a few nice deals our way)

durhamjen Tue 23-Jun-15 17:54:49

Thousands of people marched at the weekend to try and affect what will be revealed. That budget is an emergency budget. Why does Osborne need an emergency budget considering he was in charge for the previous five years?

FarNorth Tue 23-Jun-15 17:51:17

I don't think "all" will be revealed, especially if David Cameron IS a shrewd and malevolent psychopath.

magpie123 Tue 23-Jun-15 15:30:35

All will be revealed in the Summer Budget 8th July 2015.

FarNorth Mon 22-Jun-15 23:36:17

My mistake, I thought it referred to the one immediately before it.
I'll withdraw from that line of discussion as I hadn't noticed any apparent sarcasm.

Ana Mon 22-Jun-15 23:28:49

I wasn't referring to any of the posts with links, FarNorth.

FarNorth Mon 22-Jun-15 23:18:25

"PM trumpets success of plan to ‘turn around troubled families’, but experts point out figures are not verified by UK Statistics Authority"

That was the heading of the article linked to by dj.
It goes on to say that David Cameron's claims for money saved as a result of "troubled families" having their "lives turned around" are doubted by Jonathan Portes, an expert at the National Institute of Economic and Social Research (NIESR).

So I'd say that the comment "It's all a sham" sounds factual and not sarcastic.

Ana Mon 22-Jun-15 23:09:57

A shame you can't see your own shortcomings - but as you say...

durhamjen Mon 22-Jun-15 23:06:54

You are welcome to see sarcasm wherever you like.
A shame you cannot recognise an honest response. It says more about you than me.

Ana Mon 22-Jun-15 23:01:08

No, I am not wrong about your habitual sarcasm, durhamjen. And I was obviously right about you not recognising it.

durhamjen Mon 22-Jun-15 22:56:45

Sorry, you are wrong. I am not being sarcastic. I do actually believe what I say. No sarcasm intended. We can all live in hope that even people like Cameron will see the light.
