Just how arrogant are the anti-EU Conservatives?

Conservatives for Britain - that's what the group of MPs are calling themselves. They may as well have called themselves the "We are the only ones who are right" party. I am sure that all Conservatives, indeed all politicians basically want the best for Britain they just disagree on the way to get it.

Conservatives for Britain seems to me rather like the BNP taking ownership of the union flag as if they are the only ones who really support Britain. It also reminds me of those Ukippers (on other forums) talking about coming out of the EU and saying such things as "every sane person would agree" or anyone who wants the best for the UK would agree" as if they have been told by God that this is what we need to do. Such arrogance makes me so angry and I don't get angry often angry

Ha ha. They will wriggle on the hook, just like our (Australian) conservative and strong catholic PM, who is a climate change sceptic, but believes in the Pope.

I wonder what Conservatives for Britain are going to say about the Queen wanting the UK to stay in the EU.
Puts them in a bit of a quandary, I would think.

I do read a lot of political websites, Ana, but not to give a link on here. I'm interested anyway. Then I put a link on if I think it fits.
My grandson reads the newspaper as well, as part of his education.
I also read a lot of environmental information, and give links to that. I am on lots of websites to do with health and education.
I see nothing wrong with being interested in all these things and many more. As I am on my own most evenings I possibly spent too much time on the internet, but I'd rather read about politics than knitting.
When it comes to the referendum, I hope I will know exactly why I want to stay in the EU and be able to articulate it intelligently.
I certainly will not be a little Englander.

To simplify:
Let's say a majority of members of a political party have views of type A and there are 2 candidates for leadership of the party, one with views of type A and one with views of type B.
At present, it looks like type B views are more popular in the general population.

So if the party members choose the type B leader, they have a better chance of winning an election, but they will have to back views and policies that they do not wholeheartedly support.

If the party members choose the type A leader, it will seem they have less chance of winning the election but they will have more conviction and enthusiasm for the type A policies and that could help them to sway voters in their favour.

I forgot. As I will probably do again.

Ana Fri 19-Jun-15 22:03:39

Well, she does now! smile

durhamjen Fri 19-Jun-15 22:01:22

It does not sound like she knew, Ana.

"I do all sorts of other things with my life. As you do I hope. But if not, that is your choice."

I think it is lovely that you home school your grandson, durhamjen. I dont mind what your political views are while you do so.

No, I dont click open more than three a month of your links.

Ana Fri 19-Jun-15 21:53:16

I'm sure soontobe must know about your home schooling by now durhamjen, we hear enough about it.

It was probably the rest of the time she was wondering about. It must take a lot of dedication to politics to come up with an anti-government link for every occasion.

durhamjen Fri 19-Jun-15 21:25:35

Soon, I spend three full days and two half days homeschooling my grandson. I am sure you think I probably should not, with my political views, but there you are.
I find it quite stimulating as he questions everything.

Hard to know which thread to put this on. This one will do.
Hope you read it all, soon, but I'm sure you will not.

I do all sorts of other things with my life. As you do I hope. But if not, that is your choice.

soontobe Fri 19-Jun-15 20:50:54

The congratulating each other bit takes all of 5 minutes! grin

durhamjen Fri 19-Jun-15 20:45:30

So instead you just congratulate each other on agreeing with each other. That doesn't sound very exciting either.

loopylou Fri 19-Jun-15 20:32:24

Precisely soon grin

soontobe Fri 19-Jun-15 20:24:58

I wouldnt spend more time googling counter arguments either. I can think of hundreds of things I would rather do.

loopylou Fri 19-Jun-15 20:11:40

QED Ana grin along with umpteen links. If I had the inclination (and I definitely don't!) I'd spend time googling counter-arguments sad

Ana Fri 19-Jun-15 20:06:51

dj is primarily anti-Tory. Anything that can be used against them will be utilised and exploited! grin

whitewave Fri 19-Jun-15 19:52:05

At the moment, as a Labour Party member I am afraid I am underwhelmed by all the candidates.

loopylou Fri 19-Jun-15 19:34:30

I am confused!
DJ therefore is apparently vehemently anti-financiers and the financial sector but now doesn't want austerity measures against the financiers and financial sector?

I'm lost.........

grannyonce Fri 19-Jun-15 19:30:11

DJ
the definition of austerity (such an emotive word to bandy about )

A state of reduced spending and increased frugality in the financial sector. Austerity measures generally refer to the measures taken by governments to reduce expenditures in an attempt to shrink their growing budget deficits.

so you and Jeremy Corbyn are against austerity
what do you propose to balance the books and shrink the deficit
how would labour under Corbyn achieve it? hmm

magpie123 Fri 19-Jun-15 19:08:17

Hi soontobe I don't think they will vote for Jeremy Corbyn he's too far left, I personally think Liz Kendall would be their best bet. Personally I feel that I could never vote for any party only the Conservatives, although I did tactically vote UKIP in the last election. The next general election is another 5 years away, so who knows how I will think and vote then, it depends if the next 5 years have been kind to me and my family.

magpie123 Fri 19-Jun-15 18:51:41

But if he has no hope of ever winning an election even if he won the vote for leader of the Labour Party, you are not looking at the bigger picture are you.

soontobe Fri 19-Jun-15 18:45:13

You would think so magpie123, but it is not the case.

So I dont think they can then complain when the party they want does not win an election. But they will.
