Terror attacks in France and Tunisia/now

What a scary time we live in.

One man beheaded this morning in France, now at least 19 people killed in attacks on 'possibly' 2 hotels in Sousse, Tunisia. That is what is being reported at the moment, they are believed to be tourists.

It must be terrifying for those on holiday being told to barricade themselves in their rooms.

Just awful.

Anniebach. These changes happen by stealth. You ask ' will every police officer / solicitor/MP become a Muslim' but what when these professions become predominately Muslim. Something to think about.

Ana Tue 30-Jun-15 18:27:32

No one is suggesting that you have supported Sharia (it's Sharia, not Shari) law of any kind.

And you say other posters are 'touchy'...hmm

Anniebach Tue 30-Jun-15 18:23:34

Yes I know Ana, and where have I supported extreme form of Shari law and when did it become possible for extreme forms of Shari law to become above British law ?

Ana Tue 30-Jun-15 18:18:03

Beth Din is a Jewish court of law responsible for matters of Jewish religious law and the settlement of civil disputes between Jews.

It bears no comparison to the extreme form of Sharia law practised and enforced by fundamental Muslims.

Anniebach Tue 30-Jun-15 17:47:38

Yes Ana and Beth Lin has been practised in this country for over 100 years, no one shouts about the treatment of women within the Authodox Jewish community .

Ana Tue 30-Jun-15 17:41:46

As Petra says, Sharia law is already being practised in this country - quite openly in some areas.

I haven't noticed any hysteria spreading throughout the country.

Anniebach Tue 30-Jun-15 17:37:41

.grannyonce, I replied to your first post reading your apology , thank you.

Gosh why people get so touchy baffles me.

Anniebach Tue 30-Jun-15 17:35:19

Petra, I do not fear we are at risk of British law being replaced by shari law , we have never thought the Jewish Beth Din would take over British law.

Rowan Williams spoke out about this , when I met up with him he explained what he had said and what the media claimed he said were not the same

Will every MP , police officer, QC, solicitor , the House of Lords etc all become Muslims? I suppose we would have shari law if the majority of the country became Muslim, I certainly do not believe this will happen . I do believe the media is spreading hysteria through the country

grannyonce Tue 30-Jun-15 17:31:37

I did apologise if I misunderstood but you were ambiguous (where did I say 'idiot') angry
does that make me not a nice person
I give up - sackcloth and ashes for me then as well as a slapped wrist.
if you want Sharia law and a Muslim government - I most definitely do not want either in 'my country'

Anniebach Tue 30-Jun-15 17:26:18

So I am an idiot, post ambiguous statements , I am asked for reasons but if I ask - from some- I am informed no reasons to be given it is my opinion . What nice people some are here - not. But the truely tolerant , truely nice people more than make up for them

grannyonce Tue 30-Jun-15 17:11:33

apologies AB if you did not mean what I took you to mean from your rather ambiguous statement - perhaps you should have been clearer and I would not have got hold of the wrong end of the stick.
I sincerely hope British law and a majority British run parliament (with no religious bent) continues for the forseeable future.

Ana Tue 30-Jun-15 17:11:13

Anniebach, the article posted by Anya (Why does a Caliphate resonate with some British Muslims?) might give you some idea of how Sharia law may gradually take hold in this country.

TerriBull Tue 30-Jun-15 17:11:00

their time not there time

petra Tue 30-Jun-15 17:10:19

Anniebach. Did you mean that you don't fear Sharia law, or that you think Sharia law could never happen in this country. If it's the latter, are you aware of how many areas it is practiced in.

grannyonce Tue 30-Jun-15 17:04:54

AB - I was responding to your post (which I quoted) in which you said you did not fear sharia (not shari) law taking over British law or a Muslim run parliament
I said I did - do I have to give reasons - it is my opinion.

TerriBull Tue 30-Jun-15 17:04:33

"I do not fear Sharia law taking over British law" Do you mean I don't fear that because you don't think it will happen or you don't fear it if it does? Sorry Anniebach not nitpicking just found that statement ambiguous.

Agree with your thoughts "what good have we done in Afghanistan, Iraq, Syria" I think that's the general consensus unless you happen to be former Middle East Peace Envoy Tony Blair - could there ever be a more ironical title bestowed on someone who has blood all over his hands from the Iraq war than that?

I don't agree that all the young Muslims that leave anywhere in the west do so because they feel persecuted or don't fit in, some might, some leave I imagine for ideological reasons. Some leave possibly because they glory in the violence that they will inflict on others. Over there at the moment is a medical student from Glasgow, who happily held up a severed head in front of very young children. A former rapper from London who posted "just chillin' with my homies - what's left of them" beside severed heads. Jihadi John, university graduate a wicked man who has beheaded innocent people who had gone to help. These are not by and stretch of the imagination people who garner any sympathy. Hopefully when there time is up they will join Hitler, Stalin, Pol Pot and all the other tyrants in hell, because hell is what they are inflicting on the people of Syria.

goodtochat Tue 30-Jun-15 17:03:40

Just too awful for words. all those poor people and thier families. Can,t stop thinking about the 16yr old boy who witnessed his 19yr old brother, grandad and uncle[who he called "Dad] slaughtered. Dreadful. The effect on him can only be imagined. Rest in Peace.

soontobe Tue 30-Jun-15 17:02:31

Are you also meaning that you dont think Sharia law will happen here?

Or do you mean , as grannyonce took it as well, that you dont mind if Sharia law happens here?

Anniebach Tue 30-Jun-15 17:01:59

If anyone thinks I am an adiot then they have a problem not me Soontobe , I have been called much more unkind things on boards over the years

soontobe Tue 30-Jun-15 17:00:19

Ah. I now realise that you are talking about my post of 16.48pm, not the 16.51pm post.

Anniebach Tue 30-Jun-15 16:59:34

grannyonce you really fear shari law will take over from British law? How can this happen?

soontobe Tue 30-Jun-15 16:58:35

It could have been all Anniebach. She may think that we are all idiots.

grannyonce Tue 30-Jun-15 16:54:42

AB I do not fear sharia law taking over British law, I do not fear a Muslim run parliament (spelling corrected)
shock shock
I certainly do - we have hundreds of years of law that have created this country I love to live in hmm

Anniebach Tue 30-Jun-15 16:54:18

I wouldn't think of one person here as an idiot, just people with their own views and opinions which even if I don't agree I respect their right to voice them

Anniebach Tue 30-Jun-15 16:51:52

Not all Soontobe, why?
