Perhaps it is time to begin the debate. Anyone interested? And if so how to start? I have some ideas but no doubt there are other ones out there.

Oh I hope Corbyn does win. I watched the debate between the 4 candidates on TV,what came over was 3 people trying to say what they thought people want to hear and 1 person who believed what he said. Even my son who is not a supporter of politicians thought Corbyn "sounded alright". I do think someone with beliefs and ideals might make politics more attractive to young people.

It's partly to do with TV and the Internet Tegan.Close ups and embarrassing photo's influence people.I don't suppose that Disraeli or Churchill would be chosen today.Neil Kinnock always felt that falling over on the beach did for him.Ed Miliband seemed to look gormless and pull faces, not their fault of course, but in the public eye so literally nowadays, it matters.

gillybob Wed 22-Jul-15 14:32:09

I didn't mean 3rd children would starve or be put up for adoption literally Ana. smile

Children don't ask to be born. But I do know where you are coming from. There are some people who see having children (the more the better) as a way to getting more benefits. The problem is how do you stop this without affecting the genuine cases?

I see it often at my DGC's school. Young mums with lots (and lots) of children they can neither afford or be bothered to look after. sad

The S.O. has listened to a couple of interviews with Corbyn and has said that he's not sure that he always gets his facts right [although he's not 100% certain; the comment about Boots no longer paying taxes was one of them..does anyone know the answer to that?].

gillybob Wed 22-Jul-15 14:34:39

I agree roses. I could never see Ed Milliband as PM material. He did always look gormless and reminded me of the "Wallace" (and Grommit) character. Not someone you could look up to with respect.

mind you DC does have a look of Iggle Piggle doesn't he?

Tegan Wed 22-Jul-15 14:40:09

The 'tombstone' thing was Ed's equivalent of Kinnock falling into the sea#whoonearththoughtthatoneup. My worry about Corbyn is that, when I was in the Labour Party I voted for Michael Foot [regret that now] and, had I been a member a few years ago would have voted for Ed [ditto]. I think Kinnock would have made a great PM sad. I was devastated when the party lost that election.

Tegan Wed 22-Jul-15 14:41:35

....strangely enough it was having his wife around all the time that seemed to go against him; a few years on and [again, following America] the PM's wife has become very important votes wise.

TriciaF Wed 22-Jul-15 14:52:23

And Corbyn doesn't have a wife! Divorced twice, his first wife was Yvette Cooper.

Tegan Wed 22-Jul-15 14:56:14

Really shock! Crikey and there was me thinking it was complicated enough with her being married to the other Ed...

trisher Wed 22-Jul-15 15:01:43

Corbyn is married

soontobe Wed 22-Jul-15 15:39:27

Can someone explain why Yvette Cooper is no longer popular please?

Freda46 Wed 22-Jul-15 15:44:55

Yvette Cooper was Corbyn's first wife? I don't think so!!

Gracesgran Wed 22-Jul-15 15:48:09

Great news. Man divorced and remarried.

If you are all going to indulge in rumour and tittle-tattle can we get the facts right. TriciaF if you are going to put such nonsense in please give us a link. It is simply not true and none of this has anything to do with the man's politics.

Tegan Wed 22-Jul-15 15:58:36

His first wife was a university lecturer. Even so, I think the tabloids have plenty to feed off. Sorry, but I my gut feeling is that he's a loose cannon sad.

trisher Wed 22-Jul-15 16:07:21

I think it makes him a more human figure. We all know that some MPs marriages are complete shams played out in public to make them seem more family orientated. Someone who has experienced divorce and the problems involved might bring a more modern enlightened view to things. It also means that he hasn't lived his life to fit in with some spin doctor's idea of what a politician should be.

TriciaF Wed 22-Jul-15 16:58:40

I apologise profusely - I definitely saw something like that on a Wiki article etc, more than once, but can't find it now. blush At the time I thought it was incredible too .
Hope my allegation can be erased?

whitewave Wed 22-Jul-15 17:06:50

Love the way the right wing press are already willing to dish the dirt. What a yukky lot they are. No doubt us grans will rise above it though. I wishhmm

Gracesgran Wed 22-Jul-15 17:16:13

I think you have done TriciaF. The wonders of the internet hey.smile

TriciaF Wed 22-Jul-15 18:09:38

I know this sounds unlikely, but I think his Wiki profile has been changed today. There has been some mischief-making going on.
Someone on here wrote that candidate's wives were now important, so I looked up Corbyn's wife, and there was no mention of the lady with the Italian name, I had to look further for that. But Yvette's name was there.
Or else I'm really going doolally!
Just shows how important it is to give the link.

Ana Wed 22-Jul-15 18:15:27

I looked at his Wiki profile the other day...his wives were all correctly listed.

Tegan Wed 22-Jul-15 18:17:27

No good for me; can't get onto links and my computer has banned me from Wikepedia as well sad. I have to google all sorts of strange things to get to where I'm going. At least we now know that the disclaimer on Wiki that says what's written on it isn't gospel is right!

Ana Wed 22-Jul-15 18:26:12

Strangely enough, TriciaF, when I tried to find details of Corbyn's three marriages just now, the only wife mentioned now on Wiki is the second one, with whom he has three sons.

Very odd...it seems some censoring has been going on!

rosesarered Wed 22-Jul-15 18:45:37

Surely Yvette Cooper cannot be right?

TriciaF Wed 22-Jul-15 19:28:23

No it's not right, but that's what seemed to me to be on Wiki at 2pm this afternoon. this is the current link:
en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jeremy_Corbyn

rosesarered Wed 22-Jul-15 19:31:39

Maybe the Wiki team are having fun.
