Labour Leadership watch

I thought, as the message says "start a new thread" that I should.

A quote from an article by Jeremy Corby to start this thread off.

"Ours is a democratic socialist party. Nearly 300,000 people now have that on the back of their Labour Party membership card. Our members and supporters have ideas, experience and knowledge that are a valuable resource - and none more so than our local councillors; often, the most innovative ideas are delivered in local government. Shadow minister and policy advisers do not have a monopoly on wisdom, so the must interact with party members and supporters. By making policy together, we make better policy"

and a little further on ...

"I stood in this campaign to open up a debate, to engage new people and to rebuild our party as the movement it needs to be. That is not just an approach for the leadership election but one to win in 2020."

Why should any member of this forum accept personal remarks that cannot be backed up Elegran? Can you imagine what we could descend to? Perhaps Gransnet itself would like to comment. It would have been very easy for rosesarered to explain why she thought I was being "rude" but she hasn't so I must assume she can't and that therefore there was no "rudeness" just an explanation. I don't believe that the odd remark like this, very personally directed, is acceptable but if that is how these discussions are to go then I have no problem with standing my ground.

It is simple - how was I rude? If I was I will be quite happy to apologise. If I wasn't ... rosesarered only needs to explain.

Elegran Wed 26-Aug-15 15:37:38

SOMEONE has to bury the hatchet, GG If everyone keeps digging it up to test how sharp the blade is, eventually blood will be spilt.

petra Wed 26-Aug-15 15:37:54

JC. I could never vote for someone who wears such ill fitting jackets.

Notso Wed 26-Aug-15 15:45:46

petra grin

Gracesgran Wed 26-Aug-15 15:49:30

All it would take is an explanation - I am not saying I was not rude, just that I cannot see it - or an apology. Why suggest this to me Elegran; I did not make the original personal remark and all I asked for was an explanation as to why I was accused of rudeness.

I have not replied to one single post rosesarered has made for some time because of things like this. The first time I do - with what was a reasoned and applicable explanation - this happens. Are we to silence half the forum because the other half are prepared to make personal remarks - then not explain why - using this to bend reasoned argument and discussion.

It's boring. I'm bored ... but I am not rude and all that comment did was to allow rosesarered to avoid the discussion of labelling people by what is read on here.

rosesarered Wed 26-Aug-15 15:50:16

Me neither Petra, especially as he wears a vest under his shirt as well.grin
Reminds me of Foot and his duffle coats.

rosesarered Wed 26-Aug-15 15:54:19

However, I would overlook the jackets if I agreed with the message.

petra Wed 26-Aug-15 16:28:28

Noooooooo. Not a vest!!! My eyeballs are now seared with a vision of string vests and Y fronts.

Anniebach Wed 26-Aug-15 16:37:06

.rosesarered, you memory has failed you, Michael did not wear a duffle coat

TerriBull Wed 26-Aug-15 16:42:12

I think it was a donkey jacket, although I don't think any donkeys were harmed in it's production grin

whitewave Wed 26-Aug-15 16:42:59

Hopefully we can get back to some sanity and continue with a grownup discussion.

Has anyone heard what the latest is with regarding the vote? Is there a conclusion as to whether to continue? Hope so as I have already voted, as have !y family as far as I know.

Anniebach Wed 26-Aug-15 16:49:19

It was not a donkey jacket

thatbags Wed 26-Aug-15 16:53:50

Not a duffle, not a donkey jacket. Could you tell us what is was rather than what it wasn't, please, ab? Just for my sanity IYSWIM.

Anniebach Wed 26-Aug-15 17:01:42

Yes thatbags , it was a coat

thatbags Wed 26-Aug-15 17:08:14

Duffles and donkey jackets are coats too. However, never mind. I'll head googlewards for some old pics and see what kind of coat for myself since you are not in the mood to enlighten us.

TerriBull Wed 26-Aug-15 17:10:55

A donkey duffle hybrid perhaps?

thatbags Wed 26-Aug-15 17:11:35

In this pic Michale Foot is wearing a donkey jacket and very good it looks too.

thatbags Wed 26-Aug-15 17:11:56

terribull grin

Anniebach Wed 26-Aug-15 17:15:34

I thoight you were referring to the usual - he was wearing a duffle coat report which some of the press reported

TerriBull Wed 26-Aug-15 17:51:54

Should we start a new thread "Michael Foot's jackets"? Yes very attractive thatbags, sartorial elegance at it's very best!

Anniebach Wed 26-Aug-15 17:56:58

An excellent suggestion teriBull , keeps this thread free for those who are interested in the topic being discussed

AnnieGran Wed 26-Aug-15 18:13:31

Well - that was nice for a while - sensible and informative arguments; well thought out theories.

Now I am afraid of being shot in the crossfire, so, interesting as it was, after 9 pages I am not reading any more.

durhamjen Wed 26-Aug-15 18:20:23

I was thinking about PQE today whilst driving to and from my mother -in- law's carehome ( She was actually talking sense for about half an hour).

I have just seen figures which say that hospital trusts are going to be £2 billion in the red this year. Corbyn thinks PQE could be used for hospitals and buying up PFI. That's an excellent idea.

One hospital in the country has bought back its PFI and that's Hexham hospital. What happened was that Northumberland County Council bought it back and Hexham is paying the council back but paying a lot less than under the PFI deal.. If that's not socialism to help the local population, I do not know what is.
I expect people to say that Labour started PFI; it's wrong but it doesn't matter. What matters is how to pay less. The government could do it, but it will not, as it is Tory friends who stand to lose the most from this idea of Corbyn's.

whitewave Wed 26-Aug-15 18:29:09

I can remember when at work looking at PFI contracts and being appalled at the amount of money the tax payer was being asked to pay over an enormous number of years - what a very good idea.

Ana Wed 26-Aug-15 18:30:04

You're hardly going to get shot in the crossfire if you never post, AnnieGran...confused
