Labour Leadership watch

I thought, as the message says "start a new thread" that I should.

A quote from an article by Jeremy Corby to start this thread off.

"Ours is a democratic socialist party. Nearly 300,000 people now have that on the back of their Labour Party membership card. Our members and supporters have ideas, experience and knowledge that are a valuable resource - and none more so than our local councillors; often, the most innovative ideas are delivered in local government. Shadow minister and policy advisers do not have a monopoly on wisdom, so the must interact with party members and supporters. By making policy together, we make better policy"

and a little further on ...

"I stood in this campaign to open up a debate, to engage new people and to rebuild our party as the movement it needs to be. That is not just an approach for the leadership election but one to win in 2020."

I read about Hexam Jen and gave them a round of mental applause.

The whole thing about PQE is that it must expand things, jobs, housing, training, etc. and put money into the economy via people wages, etc. It is good to hear all the economist coming out and explaining that this is not something strange but has been used a great deal over the years.

Pure Keynsianism!!!!

rosesarered Wed 26-Aug-15 18:49:13

I don't think that all economists are in favour of PQE, the economists seem to be split into different camps over this.

Gracesgran Wed 26-Aug-15 18:51:24

Indeed whitewave. smile

rosesarered Wed 26-Aug-15 18:53:21

TerriBul, I really love the donkey duffle hybridgrin although isn't that a mule?

Gracesgran Wed 26-Aug-15 18:54:17

That should have been "economists" in my previous post not economist.

durhamjen Wed 26-Aug-15 18:56:11

Heard on the radio on the way back today that a firm called Gentoo, which is a building and rental company based in Sunderland is going to have to save £18 billion next year, and will probably have to get rid of 600 workers. It's the company that was set up to run all the Sunderland council housing and build new social housing. We see their vans all over the county along with those from Derwentside Homes.
I immediately thought PQE needed here.

Ana Wed 26-Aug-15 18:57:24

It was a duffel jacket or a donkey coat - who cares anyway? hmm

durhamjen Wed 26-Aug-15 19:03:30

Corbyn gave an excellent interview on BBC news just now. Apparently he has an allotment, grows his own fruit and makes jam. How does he have the time?

TerriBull Wed 26-Aug-15 19:03:41

rosesarered - I think a mule is an offspring from a donkey and a horse. I'm not sure about which species produced the duffle. A duffer maybe?

Eloethan Wed 26-Aug-15 19:04:09

"Getting caught in the crossfire"?

There are people in some countries who, if they write a blog that upsets their leaders, get thrown into prison, flogged or executed. Are we so feeble that we are scared of posting (anonymously) on a website in case someone gets a bit snippy with us? That is worrying.

soontobe Wed 26-Aug-15 19:10:29

Apart from I keep having to say that it seems to be 41 economists out of 2500 that have written a letter..

economists obviously come from all political persuasions.

soontobe Wed 26-Aug-15 19:16:40

PQE
Just invent money to throw at things.

Problems solved.

Life doesnt work like that.

rosequartz Wed 26-Aug-15 19:26:45

Socialist views are about other people, roses.
That is quite an arrogant attitude - socialists do not have the monopoly on caring for other people.
Of course, many socialists may think that.

this constant tit for tatness is the reason I rarely post on GN any more. I wonder how many others it puts off
I agree with your post, notso.
(The above paragraph was a rebuttal, I hope, not a tit for tat)

I think it was a donkey jacket, although I don't think any donkeys were harmed in it's production Terribull grin
Apparently it was a very expensive waterproof chosen by his wife, probably in case it rained; the damp could have penetrated a nice black cashmere overcoat and may have given him rheumatism which is something we should all consider as we get older.

stb economists obviously come from all political persuasions
and never agree with each other anyway!
Ed Balls is an economist isn't he? hmm

When I, for one, on this thread, pondered some queries I have, no-one took any notice whatsoever. So I am still no clearer.
Either they have no answers, or were too busy having a battle more suited to the school yard than to mature grownups.

Are we so feeble that we are scared of posting (anonymously) on a website in case someone gets a bit snippy with us? That is worrying
Elegran I did post way back on this thread that it seemed that any opinion other than the 'correct' one on here could have us all trudging off to the gulag. Oops!
That is very worrying.

But no-one seems to be taking a jot of notice of anything I say or answer any queries.

thatbags Wed 26-Aug-15 19:37:33

terribull, when DD1 was little we got her a duffle coat (we lived in Edinburgh at the time and winter was cold! She called it her duffer coat. smile

I'm a bit confused by the acronym PQE. Thought it meant post-qualified experience (used of lawyers) but that doesn't seem to fit what dj and other are talking about. Could someone spell it out for me, please, the I can look it up.

thatbags Wed 26-Aug-15 19:38:03

then I, not the I

Ana Wed 26-Aug-15 19:38:35

It's a closed shop, as I said some while ago but of course my merry quip was ignored...! wink

thatbags Wed 26-Aug-15 19:39:07

Oh! I see STB says it stands for Just Invent Money.

[evenmoreconfused]

thatbags Wed 26-Aug-15 19:40:23

Well, I haven't read every post, ana. I'd be willing to bet nobody has wink

Maybe

Ana Wed 26-Aug-15 19:43:35

My post was general, thatbags, certainly not aimed at you...

Ana Wed 26-Aug-15 19:44:54

It was actually in response to rosequartz and roses - but posts are getting jumbled of course smile

thatbags Wed 26-Aug-15 19:46:26
