Labour Leadership watch

I thought, as the message says "start a new thread" that I should.

A quote from an article by Jeremy Corby to start this thread off.

"Ours is a democratic socialist party. Nearly 300,000 people now have that on the back of their Labour Party membership card. Our members and supporters have ideas, experience and knowledge that are a valuable resource - and none more so than our local councillors; often, the most innovative ideas are delivered in local government. Shadow minister and policy advisers do not have a monopoly on wisdom, so the must interact with party members and supporters. By making policy together, we make better policy"

and a little further on ...

"I stood in this campaign to open up a debate, to engage new people and to rebuild our party as the movement it needs to be. That is not just an approach for the leadership election but one to win in 2020."

People's Quantitive Easing, thatbags, printing money to build houses, etc.

rosequartz Wed 26-Aug-15 19:47:47

acronyms.thefreedictionary.com/PQE
Take your pick, thatbags grin

During the Remembrance ceremony, the Queen Mother, is said to have complimented Mr Foot on the garment, telling him that it was “a smart, sensible coat for a day like this”

If it was good enough for the QM it should be good enough for the rest of us.

I may have missed the post where it was explained (well, written out in full), in which case I apologise for being a bother but it is a long thread and I genuinely would like to know what it stands for as used in this thread.

rosesarered Wed 26-Aug-15 19:48:19

Although I like Ana's list!

thatbags Wed 26-Aug-15 19:48:50

Oh, thanks, folks. Now I'll go and fond out what people's quantitative easing is...

rosequartz Wed 26-Aug-15 19:51:17

X posts.

Did someone ask about threads meandering away from the OP hmm

Have we got to 1,000 yet?

Still no-one has answered my queries.

rosesarered Wed 26-Aug-15 19:52:22

Now I am wondering If I am wrong entirely, um, could it be Pragmatic Quality Evaluation, oo-er.Or even, Popular Queenly Eggs?

rosesarered Wed 26-Aug-15 19:54:51

Instead of QE, which is printing money just to go into the economy, PQE is an idea to use it to build houses, schools etc, but the thing is, with normal QE you try and recover the money back at a later date, whereas if you have used it to build, well, buildings, you can't, the money is spent, never to go back again.

It's just like normal quantatitive easing, thatbags, but it only applies to 'the people' (and presumably not to dogs, cats, horses, politicians, bankers etc).

Similar to The People's Pension, The People's Princess, The People's Assembly.
A new way of expressing 'The Plebs' I presume

thatbags Wed 26-Aug-15 19:56:53

Well I read an article in the Financial Times about Mr Corbyn's PQE ideas. I am a tiny bit wiser on the topic. A very tiny bit. The FT writer does not think it's a good idea. If anyone wants a link to the article, just ask (possibly by PM cos I'm off to look at other threads the noo).

" During the Remembrance ceremony, the Queen Mother, is said to have complimented Mr Foot on the garment, telling him that it was “a smart, sensible coat for a day like this

Of course that's good enough for us! But was it a duffle/donkey or hybrid coat? We need to know...

thatbags Wed 26-Aug-15 19:57:30

Thanks for the link dj.

rosesarered Wed 26-Aug-15 19:58:56

Wasn't that kind of the QM to say nice things about Michael Foot's coat?

Ana Wed 26-Aug-15 20:00:32

She always seemed to know the right thing to say. He was probably feeling awkward in his hybrid coat/jacket and she put him at his ease...

durhamjen Wed 26-Aug-15 20:02:19

There are lots of other links to PQE on the same thread, bags. That's just the latest. Murphy originally called it Green Quantitative Easing.

rosesarered Wed 26-Aug-15 20:04:59

Yes, the Royals are so good at that aren't they? they say things like " have you come far?" i wonder if anyone ever says " Yes, Australia!"

TerriBull Wed 26-Aug-15 20:08:08

The QM probably liked Michael Foot's coat because she probably recognised it as a donkey jacket, donkey being closely aligned to a horse, which of course the Windsors all love.

This is an excellent article about how Corbyn has electrified the social democrats for the good of the Labour Party, so long as the others do not carry on with the name calling and in-fighting.
A long read.

rosesarered Wed 26-Aug-15 20:15:06

They may think mere donkeys a bit common though? were Harold Wilson's macs donkey related too?

rosesarered Wed 26-Aug-15 20:17:56

Did the social democrats want to be electrified though?shock

Gracesgran Wed 26-Aug-15 20:19:33

thatbags this is another explanation of QE

rosesarered Wed 26-Aug-15 20:22:08

Ahem! Going back to serious issues, lest we be thought frivolous........
It would take a lot of reading and an economist's brain to know if PQE is really a good idea.I suspect maybe not, or it would have been done sooner.

TerriBull Wed 26-Aug-15 20:23:10

No Harold Wilson's mac's certainly wasn't equine, not even derived from a mammal roses, A Gannex, some sort of bird I'd say.

Possibly the Windsors would think donkeys a bit common, but Michael Foot wearing it would have given it a certain gravitas I think.

rosesarered Wed 26-Aug-15 20:26:29

That's true TerriBull.I believe the Gannex was hunted to extinction by the 1980's, very sad.sad
