I thought you put butter on a cat's paws to keep it at home (i.e. when you move house and the cat's not well pleased about it!)

I thought that as well, Ana but I suppose if you put loads of butter on each paw you'd get a kind of Hansel and Gretel effect so when the cat gets lost it can find its way back by licking its own pawprints.

That's assuming all the neighbourhood cats haven't beaten him to it.

Add some Marmite to the butter on the cats paws and it would certainly not stray.

Has any gransnetter actually buttered a cat's paws? I have had cats around me most of my adult life and I'd rather try bathing them and soaking them overnight in Domestos than buttering their paws.
