Bugger it that's the next election lost.

I'm inclined to agree with you petra that he won't stay the course. I think he will press the ejector seat button at some stage and go back to the back benches or pursue another course. From my knowledge of him I don't think he ever wanted to be the one in charge. It has never been his way.

Environment and rural affairs ? Why shouldn't a vegan been appointed to these ?

Gracesgran Tue 15-Sept-15 22:27:15

they not the - sorry

Gracesgran Tue 15-Sept-15 22:25:11

You are not the only one who doesn't see him being leader in six months time petra. Will Self and Matthew Parris were talking on Channel 4 News earlier this evening. Interestingly they both thought this could end in tears (remember they know no more than we do though) with the Labour Party splitting in two. The most interesting thing is that the both thought (still remembering this is just their opinion) was that this would lead to the Conservative Party splitting as a consequence.

Who knows. Many people want to destroy Corbyn's leadership and many want to support what he stands for. He will certainly be attacked from all sides and supported by many who want him to succeed. Interesting times indeed.

I cant decide whether she should bother buying a pair of wellies or not! grin

Anniebach Tue 15-Sept-15 22:15:11

What farming post soon?

Anniebach Tue 15-Sept-15 22:13:19

That's interesting Petra, what changes have you seen in him and since when ?

soontobe Tue 15-Sept-15 22:12:30

I dont think a tin hat will be needed.

soontobe Tue 15-Sept-15 22:08:59

He has appointed, to the Shadow Farming post, an MP who is a vegan. hmm

petra Tue 15-Sept-15 21:53:34

Putting tin hat on. I don't know why but I don't see JC being the leader in 6 months time. I think this will be partly his own choice and partly the people who elected him.
It wouldn't surprise me to see Tom Watson pick up the baton. Would you say that JC looks happy in his new role. I don't think he wants to be there.
It's almost a case of: be careful what you wish for.

petra Tue 15-Sept-15 21:42:32

Wilma. I've heard it said that the older you get the more conservative you become.

Eloethan Tue 15-Sept-15 21:39:35

Perhaps some of you would like a Conservative government in perpetuity - but bear in mind David Davis's concern that the government's current proposals to change the rules re unions are reminiscent of Franco??s dictatorship in Spain. We're half way there already with the BBC scared stiff and in the pocket of the government and the newspapers largely owned by wealthy, Conservative-supporting, individuals.

Be careful what you wish for. What is happening to the very poor today may happen to your grandchildren and their children in the future. Two more Conservative MPs have expressed concern about the impact of the up to £1,300 reduction in the poorest families' incomes - they can hardly be accused of being part of the "loony left".

The Tory tabloids will never stop with the sniping, but hopefully the Mirror will settle down.

rosequartz it might just be my choice of friends, but these days virtually none of my female friends are interested in socialist politics. In fact, most of them don't care about politics, believing there's no point in getting worked up because it won't make any difference (they do vote though).

That said, I worked for Social Security for years and most people did care about government policy - not just because it affected their work. That all started to change with the introduction of privatisation and all the disillusionment that came with it.

rosequartz Tue 15-Sept-15 20:08:39

However, we may chat about discuss politics on here, but I never see many women in the pub, leaning on the bar having a pint and telling the world how much better they could run the country and where the politicians are going wrong.

Just an observation.
(could be construed as a sexist comment, but perhaps it is because I go into the 'wrong pubs' wink)

Ana Tue 15-Sept-15 20:07:34

I have noticed that the press seem to be confusing Angela with Maria Eagle quite a lot - should do their homework a bit better!

rosequartz Tue 15-Sept-15 20:05:00

DH?
I was going to put 'your average bloke in the pub' then realised it was a sexist remark grin

rosesarered Tue 15-Sept-15 20:04:06

Which person in the pub did you have in mind RQ?grin

rosequartz Tue 15-Sept-15 19:40:37

Gracesgran
don't you think that the press, the media, the public at large and - most of all -the person in the pub always know better what politicians of all parties should be doing, and think they could do it better themselves?
Unless they actually came to do it, that is.

Anniebach Tue 15-Sept-15 19:01:33

Thank you Ana, and The Telegraph

soontobe Tue 15-Sept-15 18:55:16

I dont think JC is communist.

POGS Tue 15-Sept-15 18:47:01

[sigh]

Ana Tue 15-Sept-15 18:44:34

Don't forget the Telegraph!

Anniebach Tue 15-Sept-15 18:43:09

Wilma, the daily wail, express , times and sun will not allow us to get it out of the way

Gracesgran Tue 15-Sept-15 18:42:14

I do like that Jen. It's a long article that poses a lot of good questions but in amongst the excellent journalism I just enjoyed this paragraph -

Once the incandescent rage has died away a little, they are going to have to enter into actual debate. The sneering condescension will at some point have to give way to argument. Matters which have been treated as settled in the Westminster bubble - but not in the country - will have to be argued over and settled once more.
