I think there's going to be a great deal of speculation from all quarters in the immediate future, whitewave, not least on this thread (and threads like it).

As you say, everyone has a right to their opinion.

My opinion is ana that given the absence of evidence that Corbyn will be a puppet of the unions it would be better to wait. Of course everyone has a right to their opinion.

Ceesnan hasn't actually named the MP, can't remember where she was or even the radio station, added to which she has given a pseudonym - it would never stand up in court!

So in the absence of any evidence , I think it would be best to see how the policies develop and what influence the union's indeed have.

whitewave I really do wish I could give you evidence, but sadly I can't remember the radio programme I was listening to last week. It was a local radio station somewhere between home (north west) and my sister (south west). It was some disenchanted Labour MP bemoaning the fact that Jeremy Corbyn was doing so well. Not a lot of help, sorry!

They have to take it to GCSE level - it's a compulsory subject now.

Mind you, I agree that unless you use it, you lose it.

A lot of children give it up as a subject when they've left primary school, though, so unless it's spoken at home they won't carry on speaking it.

DD attended a Welsh-speaking secondary school and is bilingual, as are my GDs, although they don't use it in front of me because I don't understand it.

It'll be everyone by the time some of us oldies who only speak a smattering have popped off!

Still only 21.7% of the population of Wales though - 1% up from 2001.

POGS I believe the use of the Welsh language is declining and only 20% of the population can speak Welsh, I am sure you will correct me

I can assure you that the Welsh language is alive and well and on the increase; every bill, every notice in shops, hospitals etc, many road signs are all in both languages.
And it is compulsory for every child to learn Welsh in school, as well as there being many Welsh language schools now. Even 2 year olds in play group learn it

I voted for Corbyn because I reject what the mainstream politics has to offer. However if, as you suggest ceesnan Corbyn is totally run by the unions then he will lose my, as well as a lot of other votes, as his narrative of inclusiveness will not have been carried through.

What is your evidence ceesnan?

I would have thought that his intellectual capacity was really irrelevant as he is going to do and say whatever the unions want him to do.

Are you seriously suggesting that the current front bench is intellectually more able than the opposition front bench?

Accepted a place on privy council. Republican, but no alternative in order to carry on necessary business.

Sajid Javid, talking on the Trade Union Bill has just said "freedom to choose without having all the information is no freedom at all". I seem to remember no information being given where they were going to take £12bn from welfare before they asked people to vote.

The proposed changes to the unions ( re strike action) seem reasonable to me too Jingl.If strike action really matters then there should be a damn good turnout to vote, otherwise, forget it!Of course workers should be able to fill a lot of those jobs, just thinking, fireman, ( police cannot strike for obvious reasons) nurses, teachers to name but a few essential jobs.a lot of us on here do remember the wildcat strikes years ago, and the blow to the economy because of them.The unions will be gleefully anticipating a fight , sure of Corbyn's and others support, and hoping things will go their way and to hell with people trying to live their lives, get to work.A real right to strike must always exist, but we must not go back to the bad old days of the 70's.
