Bugger it that's the next election lost.

Anniebach Sun 13-Sept-15 18:16:17

Why leave the party and set up a new one? He voted against the war as did others, the majority voted for war, this is what happens in a democracy , flouncing off and starting a new party , he is chairman of Stop The War Coalition . I respect anyone who stays and fights their corner rather than stamp their foot and storm away

Anniebach Sun 13-Sept-15 18:06:49

He has not said he would not take PMQ, no idea where a poster got the idea he said he would do one in five. He has just spoken of some possible changes , he also said if these were to happen he too would be on the front bench and involved. This has now become he isn't going to attend four out of five PMQ and will send his deputy in his place. Daily Wail readers again

I don't think it is a great decision, either, POGS. Perhaps he'll change his mind when it comes to it, otherwise people may start thinking he is a damp squib.

rosequartz Sun 13-Sept-15 17:39:29

I still don't understand why he didn't form a breakaway party, you'd think he'd be ashamed to belong to the same party as the leader who bombed Iraq.

POGS Sun 13-Sept-15 17:36:16

The clue is in Prime Ministers Questions and I would have thought the Opposition Leader would welcome the chance to show his /her leadership qualities to the country and not delegate the job to his deputy.

When the PM (of any colour) is unavailable for PMQ's the government and opposition benches front their deputy PM/Leader to engage in the session as heads of the parties.

I find it a very strange move on Corbyns part and there will be those who think him wonderful/ breath of fresh air, others will see him as arrogant /weak in not taking his place on the benches and fulfilling his role as the opposition Leader at PMQ's.

Anniebach Sun 13-Sept-15 17:35:12

And the leaders of the countries who bombed Syria ?

Talking does kill, bombing does , surely anything is worth trying evening if it seems it would be a miracle if it was a success ? Bombing Iraq and Afghanistan has caused refugees trying to flee the country

rosequartz Sun 13-Sept-15 17:30:00

I think Ceesnan meant he would be putting Hitler on trial after and not before he exterminated so many people. That's how I read it anyway.

Perhaps Jeremy will be able to bring peace to Syria by negotiation; that would indeed be an achievement. Then leaders of all sides can be put on trial.

Ana Sun 13-Sept-15 17:27:06

So, do you agree that Corbyn would probably have declared Hitler to be an okay sort of bloke Gracesgran? Bearing in mind that this would have been after he'd overseen the killing of millions?

Gracesgran Sun 13-Sept-15 17:22:50

Ceesnan what on earth have I said that is unpleasant? Absolutely nothing. Your sister said, according to you:

Oh dear, have just finished a phone call with my sister who has declared that JC would "probably have declared Hitler to be an okay sort of bloke, put him on trial and sorted out legal aid for him". Summed up quite nicely I think!

If you were referring to the fact that Jeremy Corbyn believes that talking can work where fighting can't and if someone like him had tried to talk someone like Hitler out of killing millions of Jews, Gypsies, etc., we would be pleased if it had worked and sorry if it hadn't but it wouldn't mean it wasn't worth not doing.

Luckygirl Sun 13-Sept-15 17:05:46

I notice this thread calls him "Jermy" - seems a bit harsh grin

rosequartz Sun 13-Sept-15 17:04:31

Big beats, eh?
I didn't type the link, just cut and pasted it. grin
The headline spelt it correctly!

rosequartz Sun 13-Sept-15 17:03:29

^"It's got a feem; it's a Christmas feem!"^grin]
I love that!

Apparently Mrs C Senior was a lovely, gentle soul who was not a harsh disciplinarian (like some of the others)

Back to the drawing board.

Although there still must be some growling around the halls of Westminster

I don't know all the ins and out of the bill and I know how much the Tories would love to get rid of unions, but I don't have a problem with the 50% aspect.

It seems quite reasonable to me that strike action should require a majority of members, rather than a majority of voters. Of course, the real problem is that so many union members are only members in case they need support. The whole ethos of a union is not of interest to far too many members, but their membership and subscriptions have value to the organisation, so this fact is just ignored. In one way, someone joining a union when they personally have problem sticks in my throat, but then again it's one more member - for now.

The sad thing is the longer the Tories are in power, the more workers need Trade Unions. If only Jeremy's tenure could have a positive effect on being a member of a union. I can see TUs viewing Jeremy's victory as a life line, but sadly I suspect this is going to be another nail in the coffin of unions. Too many workers don't see the point in fighting back against unfairness in the workplace and TUs are becoming more and more like dinosaurs.

My cockney sonIL once declared vehemently, when I suggested that our decorations on the Christmas tree should have a theme: "It's got a feem; it's a Christmas feem!" grin It has gone into the family joke horde and is recycled every year in one way or another.

rosequartz Sun 13-Sept-15 16:46:46

rosequartz, the term big beasts is no longer heard because they don't exist
Probably all gone to the House of Lords anniebach
ie they still exist in some form or another grin

Bluesman2304 Sun 13-Sept-15 16:45:53

And they say that you can't get Turkeys to vote for Christmas!

rosequartz Sun 13-Sept-15 16:44:28

I have just seen on another forum that Jeremy Corbyn's mother was a chemistry teacher at my old school; not that surprising as they lived nearby smile
(probably before my time, as I don't remember a Mrs Corbyn, unless she was teaching under her single name before that.)

Ceesnan Sun 13-Sept-15 16:35:02

Oh glory! Almost wish I hadn't bothered now. Let me try and explain, in the simplest of terms, so that there is no misunderstanding (ha ha). My sister was referring to Jeremy Corbyn's habit of cosying up to people who are not exactly best friends with the UK. Her reference to Hitler was just an example. is that clear enough or are you still going to be unpleasant?

Gracesgran Sun 13-Sept-15 16:28:50

phoenix smile

Anniebach Sun 13-Sept-15 16:24:24

Gracesgran, the same old - British justice is the best in the world but it doesn't mean we have to act by it if it doesn't suit us . I agree with you sbout Hitler, he would have stood trial with the rest and would have been given the death penalty
