Of course pronouncing "th" as "f" is an accent fing phoenix or perhaps you could call it a dialect fing but it is still somefing that I am amazed someone would criticise.

Cockneys are always said to be unable to pronounce "th". The 2 famous sayings being

so maybe it is an accent. But it could also be part of this posh thing to try to sound working class

Yes and an elected chairman is just that - elected , does it matter that a person has a cockney accent or Yorkshire accent if they can do the job they were elected to do. Jim is not in a job where he makes speeches or pops up on telly as a presenter, I think criticising a persons accent is scraping the bottom of the barrel, but it makes some happy, I just think it pathetic and so petty

So anyone in a job should not carry out their duties if they fail to pronounce a word correctly! We managed with a king who had far bigger speech problems than a person with an accent

Going forward on gransnet Anniebach, now might be as good a time as any, to say that I think we understand words to mean different things sometimes. Not saying that my understanding is always the right one, it probably isnt all of the time. In this instance for example, honour probably means quite a different thing to me than what it means to you.

Couldn't they have found someone to make the announcements who could actually pronounce the word "thousand" correctly?
