New year/term, same old poo.

First anti-democratic point - £600 to be charged for information under the FOI

Second anti-democratic point and something that far left MP David Davis described as Franco's Spain. The requirement under the trade union bill for names, movement, social media use, etc to be given to the police prior to any action taken.

For everyone who signed the petition against filibustering.

I bet Jeremy Hunt now wishes he hadn't sent that tweet, whenever he did.
I await a u-turn on nurses bursaries.

I can imagine the hammering the media would be giving Labour if they were messing up on this scale.

As to the government's case re school holidays failing in court, it appears that the government will now re-word the law in order to specifically prohibit the taking of holidays in term time. I agree with "whitewave" that it should be left to a head teacher's discretion. There are far more pressing and relevant issues that need to be addressed with regard to children failing at school.

Firecracker123 Sat 14-May-16 14:18:50

I can the last Labour government who nearly left us bankrupt. You must have a short memory.

whitewave Sat 14-May-16 10:21:40

I can't ever remember such an incompetent government.

trisher Sat 14-May-16 10:03:14

It isn't u-turns, it's government by Snakes and Ladders. They throw the dice, move the counter, maybe climb a ladder, and next move land on a snake and whizz back to where they were three moves ago. Crazy!

whitewave Sat 14-May-16 08:15:19

Another potential U Turn after yesterday's school holiday debacle.

Back to the drawing board apparently, as Gove's criminalisation rules begin to fall apart after being challenged in court by a parent.

www.theguardian.com/society/2016/may/13/suicides-of-benefit-claimants-reveal-dwp-flaws-says-inquiry

I wonder if Stephen Crabb will change his mind after this report is out. It's peer-reviewed, so cannot be easily dismissed, except by someone who is too arrogant to accept the importance of the phrase.

whitewave Fri 13-May-16 13:11:56

Gove has been rubbished yet again this time over his ruling regarding criminal offence taking your child out if school. Prior to that it was left to the heads discretion. Gove decided to take that away and criminalise it instead. Idiot!

Gracesgran Fri 13-May-16 09:57:13

The Stephen Crabb link is really interesting Jen. At least he is talking about a green paper instead of "forcing", or believing this government can force things through. It will be interesting to see what he comes up with; hopefully not more of the same but something really thought through (and without ATOS 2, 3 or 4 or whatever we are on).

trisher Fri 13-May-16 09:04:11

dj thanks for the Stephen Crabb link. I think it has just dawned on the gov that they are involved with a lot of high-profile disability organisations and they are trying to hang on to their positions. He mentioned that forgotten thing- a GREEN PAPER! (probably a slip of the tongue)-Is it just me or does he come across as shifty?

Jalima Thu 12-May-16 20:37:37

oops, sorry Gracesgran, read your post after I posted. In fact I think the food theme started as a discussion on the merits or otherwise of EU regulations regarding labelling of food.

You can choose which are the political nuts if you like.

Jalima Thu 12-May-16 20:28:29

Which both contain nuts!
Surely not Ana ? I don't remember reading any allergy info on the ingredients list on the back of their election blurb

grin
It's not something they warn us about, but I think the new Welsh ones could be like that old advert: 'Everyone's a fruit and nut case'

durhamjen Thu 12-May-16 15:59:07

I hope he gets what's coming to him as far as the electoral fraud and tax fraud are concerned.

Gracesgran Thu 12-May-16 10:22:46

I am afraid I really believe Cameron should get what just desserts come his way. I am still staggered that there wasn't some rule about the misuse of parliament that could be brought against him for his rant at PMQs.

Could I just ask why the little group talking about food don't set up their own thread smile. I am really not trying to be difficult but I don't post on this thread often but I do read it and I suddenly came across talk of gravlax. This is certainly not intended as a reprimand but just a suggestion so that those interested in allergies and vegetarianism can enjoy something currently hidden and those interested in Government Watch can enjoy what they are interested in too smile

whitewave Thu 12-May-16 09:14:02

I see the Muslim cleric, Suliman Gali is suing Fallon for accusing him of supporting Islamic terrorists.

Fallon has already been forced to publically apologise. I await now for Cameron and Goldsmith together with all the idiots in central off ice who concocted this rubbish to troop out and apologise. What chance?

Anya Thu 12-May-16 06:00:49

Surely not Ana ? I don't remember reading any allergy info on the ingredients list on the back of their election blurb.

Anya Thu 12-May-16 05:58:31

And now there is something called salmon bacon....hmm

Ana Wed 11-May-16 20:48:13

Which both contain nuts! wink

Jalima Wed 11-May-16 20:28:54

There's gravlax too
They used to sell that in the Ikea restaurant, don't know if they still do
Re Lox and Gravlax:
Whatever! But if you were to buy the stuff wouldn't you want to know if it contains fish?
It wouldn't have occurred to me that they don't contain fish; if they label the vegetarian version well enough to show that it does not contain fish or meat or animal products that should be fine, surely?

This is why we get a change of Government - when all the 'floating voters' have had enough of either party.

durhamjen Wed 11-May-16 16:58:52

This is not a u-turn, it's at least 360 degrees.

www.independent.co.uk/news/uk/politics/further-disability-benefit-cuts-are-on-the-way-new-dwp-secretary-stephen-crabb-signals-a7023916.html

This is the one who should turn into the pig.

This vegetarian never eats fish, by the way.

Gracesgran Wed 11-May-16 14:56:48

Interesting comment from Laura Kuenssberg on the Daily Politics. They were talking about why this government did not put out Green Papers (as governments have done in the past) so that they did not have to reverse so many of their pronouncements. She said that when they were in coalition Slippery George had to get things past Nick Clegg et al in the "Quad". It seems that without help they are not able to find the flaws in their proposals. PR as soon as we can please so we can have more debate and less ideas that "forcing" plays any part in democracy.

(DC seems to be at about 8 on the 1 to 10 of orangeness today smile )

daphnedill Wed 11-May-16 14:42:52

Whatever! But if you were to buy the stuff wouldn't you want to know if it contains fish? (Unless you're vege.)

TriciaF Wed 11-May-16 14:11:50

There's gravlax too, that comes from Norway or Sweden
www.huffingtonpost.com/2013/06/11/smoked-salmon-lox-gravlax-difference_n_3417652.html

trisher Wed 11-May-16 14:07:38

Isn't it a bit weird that a Government watch thread has turned into an argument about "what is Lox"? I googled it it is salmon, but there is a vegan version made from--carrots!
