New year/term, same old poo.

First anti-democratic point - £600 to be charged for information under the FOI

Second anti-democratic point and something that far left MP David Davis described as Franco's Spain. The requirement under the trade union bill for names, movement, social media use, etc to be given to the police prior to any action taken.

Yes, daphne fish is usually the 'vegetarian' option grin

Ana Wed 11-May-16 13:56:26

No, it's a fillet of brined salmon. I've never come across a vegetarian variety!

daphnedill Wed 11-May-16 13:32:23

Lox is usually 'vegetarian' salmon ;-)

trisher Wed 11-May-16 13:17:31

Course not dj it just fits perfectly into the Alice in Wonderland world government has now become-"curiouser and curiouser" just doesn't cover it. Any time now Nicky Morgan will be shouting 'pig" only question is which of the various ministers will turn into one and disappear?

durhamjen Wed 11-May-16 12:12:52

Isn't it a bit weird that the government is running an international conference on corruption when it is being investigated about the corruption that put it into power?

whitewave Wed 11-May-16 12:11:26

Even Joe Coburn -her of a total impartiality (not) hinted that Cameron was showing off.

durhamjen Wed 11-May-16 12:08:20

www.taxresearch.org.uk/Blog/2016/05/11/are-nigeria-and-afghanistan-corrupt/

A tax gap of £120 billion makes us as corrupt as Nigeria and Afghanistan.

Anniebach Wed 11-May-16 09:55:52

Queenie didn't seem to be purring did she ? Dave didn't even say it quietly , loud enough for most of the room to hear and dismissed what Welby said .

He really loves centre stage , no matter he has nothing sensible to say

trisher Wed 11-May-16 09:45:56

Unbelievable wasn't it and the poor old Archbishop putting him right about the leader of Nigeria. He was totally out of line!

Anniebach Wed 11-May-16 09:30:24

Pompous idiot . He just loves centre stage doesn't he?

whitewave Wed 11-May-16 09:07:37

Listening in on Cameron's conversation with Her Maj. He sounded like an overblown schoolboy. It leaves me wondering if all his conversations are the same. So weird!

Another U Turn! Anybody counting?

This one in relation to the privatisation of Channel 4. Whittingdale has privately pulled back , but has yet to make a decision.

Channel 4 chairman Gurassa says that this leaves the channel in limbo.

Channel 4 last year spent £629 on original tv programmes, with 70% of its output new.

If it is privatised the content will change in order to maximise profit. This will of course mean dumbing down.

Lox doesn't contain fish, but looks like salmon
I thought lox was cured salmon?

Jalima Mon 09-May-16 21:18:26

I would find a general word like pescado was very helpful because apart from a different language fishes are called different things in other countries.
pysgod (very similar in Welsh)

Jalima Mon 09-May-16 21:15:50

I find it quite concerning that none of them studied science, maths or engineering.
The people who studied those subjects are out doing real jobs.

daphnedill Mon 09-May-16 19:54:50

I went through all the current cabinet. Only Nicky Morgan and Theresa Villiers studied law. I find it quite concerning that none of them studied science, maths or engineering.

daphnedill Mon 09-May-16 19:49:26

Lox doesn't contain fish, but looks like salmon, and Linda McCartney King Prawns don't contain any fish either.

It's just as well to know what you're eating! ;-) Hamburgers don't contain ham. Shepherd's Pie doesn't contain shepherds (I hope).

I have some sleeping tablets with 'Might make you drowsy' on the warning label.

trisher Mon 09-May-16 19:41:31

if Nicky had advised me on any tax matters I think I would be getting someone else to check carefully that things were in order.

durhamjen Mon 09-May-16 18:57:28

Labour seems to have all the best lawyers, daphne.

Ana Mon 09-May-16 18:38:41

They still contain fish though.

daphnedill Mon 09-May-16 18:30:16

Crab sticks don't contain crab - just saying!

daphnedill Mon 09-May-16 18:29:10

trisher and dj, According to wiki, NM studied law at Oxford. Ahem! Standards must have fallen!

She was a corporate lawyer, so wouldn't have had to stand up in court. She probably just advised on the best tax haven (allegedly - don't want to get into trouble).

Yours sincerily (sic)

Ana Mon 09-May-16 18:19:47

Perhaps the warning should have to be in several different languages as well. Can't expect everyone to understand English, even the word for 'fish'.

whitewave Mon 09-May-16 18:17:01

That's true * trish* I hadn't thought of that

trisher Mon 09-May-16 18:12:20

If your literacy/language skills were limited you might understand the word "fish" better than the words "smoked salmon". I know when I have shopped on holiday I would find a general word like pescado was very helpful because apart from a different language fishes are called different things in other countries.
