As jinglbellsfrocks had the last word in the last thread about Jermy Corbyn, I am starting a new one.

Do you think that the election of Jeremy Corbyn has scuppered Labour's chances of winning the next election or has it revitalised the party?

petra Thu 01-Oct-15 11:40:12

I have to say that JC has made me think about Trident. Never thought I would write those words.

MargaretX Thu 01-Oct-15 10:47:03

No I am not German I'm English from deep in the woods socialist roots. It is just that I speak fluent German and understand European politics. I didn't know it was a joke that you called Merkel and Obama communists.

Obviously I haven't read enough posts to be au fait as to what is a joke or not.

whitewave Thu 01-Oct-15 07:44:17

Is it a coincidence that the only major protests are always as a result of right wing action? No of course not. Those not of the elite, have no other way of showing their displeasure. They do not have access to the networks that exist for those with the power , like the media, politicians etc.

POGS Thu 01-Oct-15 01:17:14

As for any 'possible' demonstrations/protests at the Tory Conference I find that sad for many reasons.

It will be seen by some as a demonstration of 'people power'.

To others it will endorse their concerns that this is how the 'Left of Politics' cannot accept democracy/debate/discussion unless it is on their terms. More of it to come.

Some will find it funny, amusing, empowering.

Some will find it intimidating, bullying.

I am pleased the Labour Party Conference wasn't subjected to intimidation/protest but I couldn't imagine for a moment why it would be.

We are supposed to live in a democratic country are we not and attending a political conference is simply a democratic process. Well to most people anyway.

Durhamjen

I did ask do you believe/accept, consider the UK is now trailing behind Zimbabwe in the World's Financial League?

As you have elected to supply a link which states 'UK economy ranked below Zimbabwe' and you have chosen not to answer my question then at this moment I am making an assumption you believe this to be true.

You then use a sort of reverse psychology by asking me my thought without answering my question but I will answer.

I think it is ridiculous to consider the UK is in all aspects of financial credibility trailing behind Zimbabwe !

I think it is a selective 'link' to say the least .

durhamjen Thu 01-Oct-15 00:04:50

Excellent article, this, as well.

www.scriptonitedaily.com/2015/09/26/jeremy-corbyn-proves-politicians-can-speak-human-without-being-bigots/

From the same source that tells us that the UK economy ranks below that of Zimbabwe, because of the debt this government has built up.

durhamjen Wed 30-Sept-15 23:56:12

Anniebach, the Tory conference is going to be brought to life as well, but not by the Tories.

www.theguardian.com/uk-news/the-northerner/2015/sep/30/anti-tory-protests-expected-in-manchester

Over 100,000 expected, including Corbyn.

durhamjen Wed 30-Sept-15 23:54:42

So POGS.

Can I ask you this question to understand your thought.

Do you not believe the World Economic Forum, the forum which all economists take notice of?

POGS Wed 30-Sept-15 23:50:06

So Durhamjen.

Can I ask you this question to understand your thought and the link you provide.

Do you believe/accept/consider the UK is now financially trailing behind Zimbabwe in the World's Financial League?

durhamjen Wed 30-Sept-15 22:12:18

www.scriptonitedaily.com/2015/09/30/uk-economy-ranked-below-zimbabwe-by-world-economic-forum-thanks-cameron/

This is what happens when people who do not understand run the economy.

Anniebach Wed 30-Sept-15 22:02:21

I agree, he has people interested in Politics again, and what a refreshing change to hear someone who isn't on message

Anniebach Wed 30-Sept-15 22:00:32

Jen, even we adults have difficulties seperating goodies from baddies at time

I found it very difficult today to explain about Obama to my grandson. He thinks in terms of goodies and baddies, but he read that Obama was talking to Putin, who has been classified by many as a baddy.
Then Obama is going to bomb Syria even more. But he shouldn't say that as he is a goody.
And now, with Putin bombing Syria, but in the wrong place as there are no IS there, goodies and baddies are getting really confusing.

Impossible to explain that it's possible to bomb people without there being a country, as they are all over the middle east.

At least Labour are goodies as they've said they will not escalate their involvement without UN agreement, even the ones who want to bomb Syria, i.e. the Blairites.

whitewave Wed 30-Sept-15 16:59:40

Don't confuse Margaretsmile

TriciaF Wed 30-Sept-15 15:45:20

Obama almost a communist? if that word comes out in the USA you are for the chop!
Some of them even thought Blair was a communist ( because he claimed to be a socialist at one time.)

whitewave Wed 30-Sept-15 15:40:13

Oh double negative there just to confuse you even more! Sorry! DH keeps talking and I lose concentration.

whitewave Wed 30-Sept-15 15:22:12

margaret I must ask you and this is not meant unkindly, but are you German? Only if so you may have difficulty in understand British irony and humour!

I do know that neither Merkel or Obama are not communist and my using the word communist was not an insult. Oh dear it is so difficult to explain!!! Actually this is a really good example of the difficulty in understanding other people's culture.

MargaretX Wed 30-Sept-15 15:04:22

Whitewave
Merkel is right wing, always has been. She herself came from a communist country and was never a member. I get the feeling that you use the word communist to insult people, I wouldn't think that Obama is a communist either. I think you have some serious political history reading to do.

JC came across as the old backbencher which he still is. Others will have to make the decisions for him and he can then stay in the background and let the other take the abuse.- And of course he will always be ready to talk to them and debate.

This is the man Corbyn mentioned in his speech, and asked Cameron to try and stop it.

This is what Murphy was doing yesterday. I saw him being interviewed.

I was interested to hear this morning. The head of Lloyds of London has stated that business gobally has been totally irresponsible with regard to corruption, backhanders, overblown renumeration etc and has almost solely contributed to the growing gap in wealth. He recognises that this is contributing to the growing reaction to this problem by the man in the street, and strongly advises that this be addressed by business.

JC the Zeitgeist is with yougrin

whitewave Tue 29-Sept-15 10:03:19

Yes rose it will definately be a huge fight to get the ideas into the mainstream. The real joke is that for much of the post war it was exactly that, and was responsible the enormous growth in the 50s and 60 s.
It would also be interesting to hear what you think about JMs speech.
