Anniebach, I think those who don't vote are much like many of the rest of us - they don't have a clue who to vote for. We're not exactly spoiled for choice and such a mess was made of explaining proportional representation that we are still stuck with this 1st past the post nonsense. Last time I voted for the least worst option. Insanity....and I watched all the debates, researched like crazy etc etc Luckygirl I wouldn't hold your breath. I am working on it....

I would ask one question of you all who are commenting on DC's speech. If it upsets you so much why did you listen to him, if it upsets you so much? If you didn't listen him verbatim, but only listened or read reports you are in no position to make any comment, for every report is laundered and repositioned to suit the commentator. Just maybe if you had listened to the man himself you just have heard something you did like. I say might!

In order to stop me being a "drag" perhaps you might care to answer that question. No-one else so far has even made the attempt.

Jackthelad - why did I listen to his speech? - because this is democracy in action. You need to listen to the speeches of all parties in order to make rational decisions at election time. When it comes to democracy, it is not just a question of listening to those with whom you feel you are likely to agree. It is not entertainment (when switching off what you dislike is a sensible move) but information needed to play a full part in our democracy.

Not true Adele Jay. I believe that most of the 40% who don't bother to vote are either because they don't think it will make a difference or, more likely, they just can't be bothered.

If Brown had not taken the overview of the banks from the Governor of the BoE, Britain wouldn't have been in nearly such a mess as it was when the electorate kicked him out and the need for austerity would have been much mitigated.

And in case you are wondering why that decision was taken, it was Ed Balls exerting his control over the Governor, not even for idealogical reasons.

Can we ever get away ( on the politics threads) from people moaning about percentages, for which party wins an election? if Labour with Ed Miliband had won with the same percentage as DC and Conservatives, would we hear so much as a peep? No, I thought not.

Luckygirl, if you had not used such vitriolic language in your post, you wouldn't have appeared to be so left wing, hence my reference to Corbyn.

If you read my later post re the removal of control from the Bank of England, you will see why the last 5 years has been so nasty. It was because of the Coalition that DC as you refer to him, was unable to put into practise all that he would have liked.

My fear now, is that the right wingers on the Tory party will not allow DC to implement all he wishes. Let's hope Labour and the SNP will make the difference.

I personally have done much better, thro' my own efforts when the Tories have been in power. The opposite has been true when Labour has had control. I remember Harold Wilson and his decision to devalue the Pound to pay for his mistakes, telling me that this didn't mean the Pound in my pocket was lessened.

I also remember his decision to cancel TSR2 and to commit to the USA's F111, which was never procured, but paid for in cancellation fees. Labour always has and always will be a disaster when ruling the country. This is why the Tories have such a bad name among some of you when they have to clean up the mess left for them when the electorate sees the error of their ways.

Hear! Hear! And what was the majority of the whole electorate when Blair won each time. Not so different as the last election.

Yes, it's always easy to run with the herd, so much more difficult to be out on a limb with the pack in full cry, particularly when it's so often a case of 'goodies (socialists,) and baddies (Tories), it gets very tedious to defend when you are aligned with Ghengis Khan before you even start, so much easier just to keep quiet, and place your X at the appropriate time, hassle free, in the box of your choice!
