just heard that Corbyn declined to meet the Queen and join the Privy Council. He will be the first Leader of the Opposition to do this, or the first Leader of the Government come to that.Interesting!
Another thing that won't sit well with the voting public, along with not singing the National Anthem ( but lustily singing the red flag song.)
He is keeping to his principles ( as a back bencher) but this can't end well for a would be Leader.

It's true about roses Ana, they should be planted alone or with other roses,
But do change your name to Roseana, as we need more confusion on here.grin

rosequartz Fri 09-Oct-15 20:27:09

That was my great-grandmother!! grin

Ana Fri 09-Oct-15 20:25:48

Perhaps I should change my name to Roseana! grin

Ana Fri 09-Oct-15 20:25:01

Are you a clique of two?

rosesarered Fri 09-Oct-15 20:23:40

Roses only like to mingle with other roses, they detest anything else planted around them, and go easy with the shit manure! grin

rosequartz Fri 09-Oct-15 19:33:32

Although shit manure is very good for roses, isn't it?

rosequartz Fri 09-Oct-15 19:33:09

Stay as sweet as you are rosesarered smile
I will have a think about it
It might be a good idea anyway .....
(always in the shit mire, only the depth varies)

rosesarered Fri 09-Oct-15 19:01:37

I'm not changing RQ, but if you are happy to.....?I always call you RQ anyway, so maybe others could?smile

rosequartz Fri 09-Oct-15 18:49:45

OK, I did suggest 'quartzie' at one point when posters kept muddling us up.

Time for a name change hmm

durhamjen Fri 09-Oct-15 18:48:15

But it would differentiate you from roses. That's an idea!

rosequartz Fri 09-Oct-15 18:46:10

That's OK, I will just grrr away to myself

At least you didn't call me 'Quartz' grin

Anniebach Fri 09-Oct-15 18:24:51

.rosequartz, I doubt I would refer to a woman by her surname, I do with Thatcher but even the media refer to the Thatcher years and I can't be bothered with typing Margaret Thatcher, sorry if you grrrrr but try to allow me this one grin

durhamjen Fri 09-Oct-15 18:24:22

What matters, surely, is that we all know to whom we are referring. Does anyone know any other Corbyns, because I do not.

rosequartz Fri 09-Oct-15 18:21:46

The last was not just to anniebach it was a general thought.

eg, can't stand to hear 'Thatcher', 'Harman', 'May', 'Cooper' etc.

rosequartz Fri 09-Oct-15 18:14:56

I can't say JC because this is someone else for me
anniebach I was calling him JBC for short to differentiate.

Using a surname is fine just longer to type! it's what they used to do in school; however it always makes me feel uncomfortable to hear women referred to by just their surnames.

I know that is probably a sexist remark but it's just how I feel.
So carry on if you would use a surname for a man or woman, I will just grrrr quietly to myself wink

Stansgran Fri 09-Oct-15 13:43:03

Yes we've asked the poor woman to shake hands with some evil types who have blood on their hands for the sake of trade and diplomacy.

Anniebach Fri 09-Oct-15 13:41:06

POGS, I am never bother by being laughed at or with , I thought the posts on my goblin clanger were great . Big difference in laughing and mocking and I know I was not being mocked

Anniebach Fri 09-Oct-15 13:38:32

It wouldn't bother the queen if she met him or not , people equals duty to her.

Thatcher on becoming PM sent a message to the queen suggesting she be informed what colour the queen would be wearing when on joint duties so they wouldn't clash, the reply from buck house was - the queen doesn't notice what people are wearing.

The queen has no problem with meeting politicians who are republicans , she is the same with an Australian republican PM as any other politician , they are just people she has to meet as queen , sensible woman

Hattiehelga Fri 09-Oct-15 13:15:54

I imagine her Majesty (and Prince Philip !!) are mightily relieved not to have to meet this person !!

Anniebach Fri 09-Oct-15 13:10:59

I can't say JC because this is someone else for me. Spelling Jeremy is difficult so I use Corbyn, I also say Cameron . I have been well behaved here because I type the queen but always call her queenie off here .

It isn't difficult to swear an oath to the queen if you are a republican, I had to do it often when a cub mistress , the words just don't mean anything, I don't feel any loyalty to the queen , I certainly wouldn't jump between her and a bullet because she is a queen , I respect her as I respect anyone else.

I did defend her ferociously when she was almost crucified by the press and many of her loyal! subjects when her ex daughter in law bitched her and when her ex daughter in law died '"

POGS Fri 09-Oct-15 12:23:02

Anniebach

I think we had a thread about the curse of the typo. smile

Well done for not getting defensive it is laughing with not laughing at, if you understand my meaning.

gillybob Fri 09-Oct-15 12:18:47

Of course Corbyn is acceptable pollyb as is Cameron or Blair for that matter. What would be the point of saying David said or Tony said, no one would have the foggiest who you were talking about.

rosesarered Fri 09-Oct-15 12:02:44

Never read the Mail and rarely buy a paper these days, Corbyn is acceptable I think, or JC anything else takes too long , so Corbyn or Cameron is fine.
It was on the news that Corbyn declined to meet the Queen, and we already know he doesn't want to , but perhaps he will do the full oath and meet her regards becoming a member of the Privy Council, who knows? It will be difficult for a committed Rebuplican to do.
I didn't want to mention the goblin thing Annie ( I know about the curse of the iPad!) but it made me smile I have to say.smile

pollyb Fri 09-Oct-15 11:37:37

Something very unpleasant about this "Corbyn" business ...putting him in his place cf. "Mr. " or "David" Cameron, who didn't turn up till the third session of privy council after he could have.

Don't remember Mr. Murdoch making such a fuss about that! Always best to look a little closer at anything in the (hate)Mail!

Anniebach Fri 09-Oct-15 11:25:58

Oh yes it was suppose to be go in the lords not goblin or abolish the lords, going to make a cuppa.
