Following me on GN will keep them enthralled for hours grin

thlgrin I was just thinking that as I read the title!

Although about ten years ago DBH went spare when he came home one evening, to find me looking at a Russian brides website. We lived in Winchester at the time, and many of the masters at the college found it impossible to meet women who shared the same interests they did (in other words, the female teachers at St. Swithun's were far too opinionated and well-informed for the hapless males to be able to cope). In their infinite wisdom, they decided that Russian or Thai brides were the way to go. This led to a fair number of beautiful women producing equally beautiful children, and one of our friends who had been unlucky in love asked me to have a look at the sites on his behalf, as he was a complete luddite.

DBH was convinced that it was a very dangerous thing to do, akin to porn, and he would be sacked if the school found out!

My first thought is no.
My second is yes.

The police would have to get powers from a judge, so I think I am on the yes side.

Indinana Fri 30-Oct-15 21:41:43

Oh dear, now they're going to find out I've got a soup maker, white bedding, and wear my knickers in bed shock

Devorgilla Fri 30-Oct-15 21:49:12

I'm surprised that people are surprised they want to do this or already are. The powers that be have been spying on us all since the amoeba crawled out of the primordial soup. Let them get on with it I say. They will be bored to tears, fall asleep and miss the main event.

Good. Anything that helps the police arrest the pond life that want to harm me and mine. This is the consequence of letting every tom dick and harry into our country from God knows where. And yes, I do know that many of them are home grown.

soontobe Fri 30-Oct-15 21:49:49

My husband, while waiting while trying to fix my computer, thought he would look at my internet history. He declared it so boring, that he was never going to look at it again! grin

merlotgran Fri 30-Oct-15 22:07:10

If I was asked to look at someone's internet history I wouldn't know where to start. hmm

Deedaa Fri 30-Oct-15 22:09:34

Ten years ago the Police removed DH's computer because they suspected him (wrongly) of viewing child pornography. I told the Sergeant who took it away that they would find nothing but pictures of Italy and cats on it. The reply was "Yeah, yeah". When he brought it back he said "You were right, it was all Italy and cats." Of course now it would be Italy, cats and Gransnet!

I'm trying to imagine someone trying to wade through the interminable emails that travel between me and DD. Most of them completely incomprehensible to an outsider thlgrin

Anya Fri 30-Oct-15 22:18:56

No problem with them looking at my internet history........they'd be bored rigid!

Ana Fri 30-Oct-15 22:35:53

Surely they must have some sort of 'trigger' signal - it won't be some poor old bloke or bloke-ess sitting for hours in front of a computer screen trawling through everyone in the country's viewing history...thlhmm

Anniebach Fri 30-Oct-15 22:36:55

Mine will enthral them, yesrs of work on BMD on Anglesey and the effects of the poor law , plus , archive records on workhouses and mental hospitals in Wales

Ana Fri 30-Oct-15 22:46:06

What, nothing else Anniebach? Don't you have a lighter side...? thlgrin

I do hope they won't be doing any sort of 'personality profiles' on us - goodness knows what they'd make of my extremely varied and occasionally rather peculiar internet searches!

durhamjen Fri 30-Oct-15 23:21:25

Most of mine is political, believe it or not. However, my computer is on a go-slow, so not so much these days. It will not even let me into my history to delete it.
Anyway, I thought the cybercrime police were too busy looking for 15 year olds trying to get everyone's bank details from their phone accounts.

rosequartz Fri 30-Oct-15 23:25:36

No, djen they're too busy arresting people and seizing their laptops for writing to their local councillor and complaining about the street lights!

I've just written to the council complaining about something, I'm scared now hmm

Nelliemoser Fri 30-Oct-15 23:29:47

This is ridiculous in practice they just do not have the manpower.

They will be bored silly by mine as well.

I do have lots of lovely pictures of rocks and strange geological formations. Could these be considered as rock porn? These turbidites are magnificent examples of what are sometimes referred to as "bottom structures."

durhamjen Fri 30-Oct-15 23:30:01

" Peers are preparing for a fresh showdown with the Government over plans to allow police to examine people’s online browsing histories. They are also concerned that the Government has rejected calls for judges, rather than ministers, to issue eavesdropping warrants.

The moves, which come days after the House of Lords torpedoed George Osborne’s tax credit plans, reflect growing anxiety over the impact of a wide-ranging surveillance Bill to be published next week."

From Vox Political.

The government are really asking for it, aren't they?
They should have spread it out a bit, instead of frontloading all the bad things in this parliament. The lords know they have nothing to lose as Cameron has started an enquiry into their powers, led by someone who wants them to have fewer powers.

Ana Fri 30-Oct-15 23:32:05

Oo-er! thlgrin

rosequartz Fri 30-Oct-15 23:32:51

Fewer Lords would be a good idea imo.

durhamjen Fri 30-Oct-15 23:33:30

Roseq,

www.fixmystreet.com

is a good website to complain on to the council. It lets everyone else know if anyone's complained about the same thing.

rosequartz Fri 30-Oct-15 23:35:58

Thanks Djen
I will look at that tomorrow

durhamjen Fri 30-Oct-15 23:39:15

They are getting older now. Lots of them must be a similar age to those that are dying off.
Once someone is made a Lord for life, they are in the House of Lords until they die. It's only the hereditary Lords that are limited.

rosequartz Fri 30-Oct-15 23:40:57

Well, that is one way of limiting the numbers - just don't replace them!

durhamjen Sat 31-Oct-15 00:01:11

Obviously Cameron will be hoping it's the Labour and Libdems who die off. The problem is that they want to put another hundred Tories in just to give them a better chance next year.

Do you think it will be noticed that I called Cameron and Osborne liars on another thread?
