A complete twat on this subject.

I'm now going to read an article about racism as a mental illness (the article concludes that it isn't).

thatbags Sat 21-Nov-15 06:52:17

Anyone who calls me or anyone else anti-muslim for saying these things is a complete twat.

thatbags Sat 21-Nov-15 06:51:25

I see the modern wave of islamic extremism as the islamic equivalent of what extremist christians engaged in in the past. Because I view it that way, I think that we (humanity, all of us) will get past it, and that Islam, the religion, will have some kind of reformation, as Christianity did.

Meanwhile the vast majority of Muslims will continue to be good people, like the rest of the world's population.

thatbags Sat 21-Nov-15 06:42:35

Would it be anti-christian to say that the christian crusades and the christian Inquisition were, in my view, immoral? Or is that anti-christian extremism? Anti-christian extremist zeal?

thatbags Sat 21-Nov-15 06:34:45

There's a difference between being anti-muslim and being anti-Islamic extremism. The Wiki page about Gabriel says she is an anti-Islamic extremism activist. Until I hear her say or see evidence of her saying something anti-muslim, I'll go with that claim.

A lot of people and the some of the media confuse anti-muslim sentiment with anti-islamic extremism. The two are not the same.

JamJar1 Sat 21-Nov-15 01:23:30

I hold my hand up to sometimes having too much faith in Wiki pages WilmaKickersfit. Must be lots on the net to verify BG's early life, which was the part which most interested me, will read after some zzzz's.

WilmaKnickersfit Sat 21-Nov-15 00:03:17

Jamjar she probably maintains her Wikipedia page herself.

WilmaKnickersfit Sat 21-Nov-15 00:02:09

It was me who brought up Brigitte Gabriel's background on the other thread and rather than start off the same cycle of discussion, here is a link to the thread -

Brigitte Gabriel

I stand by what I said on the other thread. She's one of the most anti-Islamic people I know about.

JamJar1 Fri 20-Nov-15 23:30:46

If you open all the links here she has had an interesting life, and been through some hardship.

jinglbellsfrocks Fri 20-Nov-15 23:30:24

You are all like a flock of sheep.

jinglbellsfrocks Fri 20-Nov-15 23:30:00

Just the way she harangued that mildly spoken muslim student should have shown you just what she is like! hmm

jinglbellsfrocks Fri 20-Nov-15 23:28:55

Read this for starters?

jinglbellsfrocks Fri 20-Nov-15 23:24:59

Everything about that woman is anti-muslim. She is horrible!

Do some research for God's sake! hmm

POGS Fri 20-Nov-15 23:15:28

Maybe Granjura but she was not making an anti Muslim rant on the clip. Had she been doing so I don't think bags nor others would have given her a moment of our time.

To those who have interpreted her point in a different fashion to you we are listening solely to the point she was making without having a pre bias opinion as we have never heard of her.

I do not know if I would think her anti-muslim or not, it is apparent reading threads on GN that show we all have differences of opinion as to what counts as being anti-muslim. That is not saying she is not and you are correct but the clip is not an anti-muslim rant.

jinglbellsfrocks Fri 20-Nov-15 23:09:33

Washington Post response to that bullying Gabriel woman

jinglbellsfrocks Fri 20-Nov-15 23:01:54

We did that woman on another thread. About a week back. confused Didn't we agree she was an anti-muslim, loud mouthed horrible person?

granjura Fri 20-Nov-15 22:44:39

thatbags- what she is saying I have to hear with the experience of listening to her anti Muslim rants over a very long period of time on Fox News- and it does put a very different slant on it, I'm afraid.

Did you watch the video of how she talks to people/Muslims? Her attitude to Muslims in general does influence how you assess anything she says- so the ball is very much linked to the person, in this case.

POGS Fri 20-Nov-15 22:36:46

Granjura

I have listened to the clip again before posting to ensure I had not made a mistake.

Having heard it again I have to say that I do not interpret the words she used in the same way as your post of 20.24.

Alea Fri 20-Nov-15 22:25:03

If that is addressed to me * Elrel* then say so. am sorry if choosing my words carefully goes an impression of "prefectorial condescension.". Perhaps you might like to illustrate with an example?

thatbags Fri 20-Nov-15 22:10:43

jura, what she said in the link I posted is not anti-muslim. She is saying that peaceful majorities in the situatioins under discussion are irrelevant, including, but not exclusively, the peaceful majority of muslims who do not agree with Daesh.

I repeat: play the ball not the man.

soontobe Fri 20-Nov-15 22:06:40

They are against radical Islam though.

Elrel Fri 20-Nov-15 22:05:54

No Jamjar, it was the prefectorial condescending tone that led to my 'snip'!

soontobe Fri 20-Nov-15 22:05:04

granjura. For reasons I wont go into, I see quite a lot of Fox News. In no way would I say that Fox News are anti Islam.
I cant say about the Tea Party.
They are definitely pro Republicans[I wouldnt say they are pro Trump more than the other Republican nominees]. I would say they are very anti Obama.

Personally I havent seen Brigitte Gabriel. I will take your word for her.

Elrel Fri 20-Nov-15 21:59:20

It's whoever is financing Isis I think. I'm told that captured Isis fighters express no particular religious fervour but say they joined because there is money for their wives and children and some kind of a pension if they die. Sounds very organised, someone's behind it.

Tegan Fri 20-Nov-15 21:54:58

It's true that the terrorists appear to be non practicing muslims but surely they are the puppets not the puppet masters and it's the puppet masters that we need to understand and fear.
