smile

loopylou Wed 02-Dec-15 10:58:08

Yes, not an easy choice but I can't see how else to do it.
It's not as if they have someone who would negotiate anything else.

granjura Wed 02-Dec-15 11:47:16

The smile is truly disturbing in this context, really sad whatever the reasoning, a smile is just not appropriate !

JamJar1 Wed 02-Dec-15 11:52:45

Agreed loopylou

POGS Wed 02-Dec-15 11:53:27

More interested in listening to the debate and hearing intelligent views.

Elegran Wed 02-Dec-15 11:53:27

I think the smiley could be interpreted as an understanding welcome to those whose views have made them persona non grata on other threads (but not automatically made them bloodthirsty warmongers)

Ana Wed 02-Dec-15 11:57:15

There's a smiley at the top of the 'No' votes thread as well. It's just jingl being friendly. Don't over-think it, granjura...

Alea Wed 02-Dec-15 12:13:16

I agree GJ it should have been a tchsmile

whitewave Wed 02-Dec-15 12:16:53

Whose for yes then? I can only see one

nigglynellie Wed 02-Dec-15 12:22:42

In a perfect world not one of us would want to bomb anyone, but it's not a perfect world and we are where we are. For me this campaign would be the extention of the one already in operation in Iraq. Not being able to go over that border, when the enemy(Isil) clearly are, is just silly. I also feel strongly that the UK needs to be in the forefront of any peace negotiations in the future, and unless we are prepared to play our part in all aspects of this appalling situation, we can't expect to be taken seriously in any future talks. Isil have to be stopped from spreading, and the only way to do this in the short term imo.is to contain them by attacking them, bit like holding a mad dog at bay! and the more people who can help to do this (us) the better. What comes next is worrying, there is no denying that, but let's hope that some wise heads will manage to find a wise solution.

JamJar1 Wed 02-Dec-15 12:26:03

I see two, myself and loopylou apologies if I didn't make it clear.

JamJar1 Wed 02-Dec-15 12:27:26

Sorry nigglynellie posted before seeing your reply.

granjura Wed 02-Dec-15 13:03:35

Alea, there is no suitable reply I can think of (sick though).

Ceesnan Wed 02-Dec-15 13:31:33

Yes.

jinglbellsfrocks Wed 02-Dec-15 14:01:32

I had to start the thread somehow! I wasn't making light of the subject! I thought about just a dot, but I wanted it to sound welcoming to newbies and people who just read the forums, to encourage them.

Anya Wed 02-Dec-15 14:31:50

Yes

Alea Wed 02-Dec-15 17:13:09

Speechless GJ? that has to be a first.
(See Ana and Elegran at 11.53 and 11.57 and calm down tchsmile

rosesarered Wed 02-Dec-15 17:17:59

Yes

rosesarered Wed 02-Dec-15 17:20:42

I don't see much difference extending the strikes into Syria from Iraq, and after hearing sensible speeches today,it's a definite yes from me.

Teetime Wed 02-Dec-15 17:26:38

I've listened to it all and its still a yes from me I just don't see a realistic alternative. ISIL hate us and our way of life they aren't really the kind of people to ever enter into peace negotiations. I wonder how differently people might think if it were London rather than Paris that suffered the recent atrocities.

merlotgran Wed 02-Dec-15 17:32:56

Yes.

Indinana Wed 02-Dec-15 20:09:24

Yes, but I so wish there was another solution sad

rosesarered Wed 02-Dec-15 21:46:34

The speech by Hilary Benn was brilliant ( just now, live from Parliament) on why we should be bombing Daesh in Syria. If I had been wavering, that would have convinced me.

soontobe Wed 02-Dec-15 23:33:05

Yes.

gillybob Thu 03-Dec-15 08:07:34

I agree with you there Teetime but part of me still wonders do we really know who we are letting in as part of the refugee campaign?

And if I were a lunatic thinking of carrying out an act of terrorism on UK soil then this might just have pushed me into doing it sooner rather than later as a sort of payback .

I wish I knew the answer.
