Gilly it doesn't matter who is leader of the Labour Party, until all this backstabbing and squabbling goes on, the Tories have it made.
People talk about returning to the 'roots' of the party. The Labour Party grew out of the poverty and injustices that the working classes genuinely suffered. Children starving and cold, whole families homeless, factory owners who cared not a jot for their workforce, no decent education system, no health care, and so on.
These huge reforms, brought about by the party, were the grass roots of the movement. Now things aren't perfect, but they're a damn sight better and, providing Labour stands a chance of being elected, things will continue to improve. But no. Because of an ideology that is stuck fast at the beginning of the 20th century and cannot move on, past and round the mistake that was New Labour, everything has come to a grinding halt with infighting and dissent.
I despair.
