Labour MP's harassment

For a while now there have been reports of Labour MP's being bullied, harassed by left wing activists. They have been threatened with deselection, sent photos of dead babies to put pressure on them to vote on Syria etc.

Yesterday during the Syrian debate many Labour MP's made reference to this happening and Labour MP John Mann called for Cameron to apologise for his words but also said the Labour front bench should also apologise for the harassment the Labour MP's were recieving. Labour MP Stella Creasy literally left the debate to go to her office as the staff were receiving phone abuse and there were anti war campaigners causing them harassment. This point will be refuted by those who attended so we must all make our own decision as to whom we believe.

I mentioned in posts last night how disgusting I think this behaviour is on the Should we bomb Deash/IS thread. I genuinely feel very sorry for the Labour MP's and to be honest I think there is going to be more trouble ahead if the Labour Party do not back their MP's a little harder than has happened so far.

What gives people the right to assume their opinion , their view should not be doubted, not debated and must be adhered to or they resort to threatening behaviour. It is not democratic and I agree with those MP's and commentators who believe this wave of activism is a backward move for the Labour Party..

Whilst presumably Corbyn didn't sanction the bullying mollie, nevertheless it's within his party.
There are bullying tactics on both sides, truly unpleasant and puts MPs in a very poor light IMO.

I have to go out now. I'll tag this thread as 'watching' and ge back to it later when all my duties are done.

Luckygirl

We do know how far the line has been crossed and it has been going on for a while certainly during the Labour Leadership election up to now.

Some MP's have been threatened with deselection if they do not back Corbyn , pictures of dead babies and messages of you are a warmongerer, a terrorist with blood on your hands have been received and death threats have been reported.

I think that is most definitely crossing the line.

I think this must be a thread within a thread. I'm easily confuddled though.

Ana Thu 03-Dec-15 14:24:23

And before anyone leaps to assumptions, it wasn't me either!

Anya Thu 03-Dec-15 14:23:05

In fact Annie as so many people appear to be condemning me out of hand, would you please post a link to that. If you are correct I will of course apologise, if you are wrong I'll expect the apology.

gillybob Thu 03-Dec-15 14:21:23

Sadly you are right Anya. I was young still am and really thought that "the Labour party stood for me and my way of life" How wrong I was.

Anya Thu 03-Dec-15 14:21:01

Really Annie ? Are you sure that was me because I think you're mistaking me for someone else.

You need to get your facts right before you make rude remarks.

gillybob Thu 03-Dec-15 14:18:36

Personally I think its just sad to deliberately point out someone's spelling mistakes or grammatical errors. Pathetic even. Unless of course the mistake makes a serious post sound really funny, in which case fair game

Anya Thu 03-Dec-15 14:18:21

Gilly disillusionment is a hard pill to swallow isn't it? You ought to live where I do and see the corruption in local Tory-led government.

You're probably correct, it does cut across the political spectrum.

Anniebach Thu 03-Dec-15 14:15:40

It is acceptable if it's the truth Anya , the night you ridiculed me I was exhausted, I typed troupes not troops, an error which could have been ignored , you chose to ridicule

Anya Thu 03-Dec-15 14:15:37

PS DJ once pointed out that I had spelled 'bugger' incorrectly as 'buggar' ...I thought, 'oh yes, so I have!' hmm I didn't get all in a tizzwazz (sp?) about it.

Weird!

gillybob Thu 03-Dec-15 14:15:12

I joined the Labour party at 18 for all of the reasons you have pointed out Anya. I was born (and still am) working class and proud of it. I have never been handed anything on a plate. My grandad's were both miners and dedicated Labour men. I cancelled my membership some years ago after witnessing first hand the underhand tactics of various Labour councillors and MP's who voted each other on to lucrative committees as though it was "their" turn next etc. Drinking themselves into oblivion on tax payers money, jollies and funded "missions", meetings in exotic locations etc. oh I could go on and on.

I know the other are probably no better, but I was genuinely upset to find out that the one party I thought I could respect were such steaming hypocrites.

Anya Thu 03-Dec-15 14:09:04

I don't know what you are referring to Annie but to call someone spiteful is a personal attack and not acceptable.

Anya Thu 03-Dec-15 14:06:29

Gilly it doesn't matter who is leader of the Labour Party, until all this backstabbing and squabbling goes on, the Tories have it made.

People talk about returning to the 'roots' of the party. The Labour Party grew out of the poverty and injustices that the working classes genuinely suffered. Children starving and cold, whole families homeless, factory owners who cared not a jot for their workforce, no decent education system, no health care, and so on.

These huge reforms, brought about by the party, were the grass roots of the movement. Now things aren't perfect, but they're a damn sight better and, providing Labour stands a chance of being elected, things will continue to improve. But no. Because of an ideology that is stuck fast at the beginning of the 20th century and cannot move on, past and round the mistake that was New Labour, everything has come to a grinding halt with infighting and dissent.

I despair.

Anniebach Thu 03-Dec-15 14:02:02

True Trisher, but doesn't mean it didn't hurt , which was the intention

trisher Thu 03-Dec-15 13:57:17

Anniebach if someone is reduced to pointing out your typos it indicates they can find nothing else to argue with!!!

Anniebach Thu 03-Dec-15 13:55:05

Anya, you have bitched and ridiculed me for sometime, your mocking of my typing an incorrect word was spiteful and uncalled for . Your views on any subject hold no interest for me , no more to say to you

Anniebach Thu 03-Dec-15 13:52:02

.gillybob, it depends when the next leadership contest takes place, many members were against the bombing of Syria and will not forget. Also he will have the blairites to fight , so depends on time span

Anya Thu 03-Dec-15 13:51:29

But of course you do not accept that my views as a party member count, do you?

Anya Thu 03-Dec-15 13:50:22

And within the membership.....

Anya Thu 03-Dec-15 13:49:45

Get off your high horse Annie you know full well that us Labour Party Members are a tiny part of the voting public (about 1%) and with the membership there is a wide variety of opinion and views.....or do you wish to suppress that hmm

gillybob Thu 03-Dec-15 13:46:53

Oh I dunno after "that" speech Anniebach.

Anniebach Thu 03-Dec-15 13:45:15

Benn Jnr is setting himself up to be next party leader, he is in for a disappointment

Anniebach Thu 03-Dec-15 13:42:22

Remove Corbyn and replace him with a Blairite ? No thanks
