Labour MP's harassment

I am suspicious of the so called "Party Members" who voted for Corbyn as their saviour leader Anniebach

There was a huge increase in membership prior to the leadership election which leads me to wonder if a large group of people (who would not normally be interested) joined for one reason only, to ensure that JC won and to put a spanner in the works.

My dad has been a life long Labour man. He is convinced that unless Corbyn is removed soon there will have to be a breakaway party to look after the interest of the "real" Labour party members.

The Labour Party should always support their MP's and labour MP's should respect the views of Labour Party members. Why should I support a labour MP who has ignored party members . Who selected them? Party members

Personally I think that imposing the Tory whip on such a complex moral issue constitutes one form of bullying. They should have had a free vote.

I suspect that my MP would have voted against if there was a free vote - he did it once before over intervention in Syria and paid the price personally and career-wise.

I wish I could lip read, Andy Burnham was muttering away as Hillary Benn sat down after his speech.

We do not know who perpetrated this bullying; nor do we know how far it stepped across the line of reasonable persuasion. It is a sorry mess.

Despicable behaviour indeed on the part of some Labour party activists - on a par with the bullies in the Conservative party which led to the recent suicide of a young member.

Of course any form of harassment or bullying is unacceptable (although the Tory party do this quietly and call it 'applying the whip'). However debate and discussion have always been a feature of the Labour party and showing the real effects of war is sometimes necessary. As for deselection, if my MP had voted for the bombing I would certainly be asking that she fully explain her views and possibly pointing out that she failed to represent me properly. It isn't a question of not debating it is to do with looking at the reasons these MPs supported the bombing, it is possible that they are the remnants of the Tony Blair period and need to revise their views and look at their allegiance. We could turn this on its head, how do the people who opposed the bombing feel about Tory MPs who were against it but were bullied/persuaded to abandon their principles in favour of the party?

Loopylou, that sounds like you think Corbyn sanctioned this bullying? I can't agree with the idea that Freedom of Speech is dead in the Labour Party, isn't that what Corbyn insists on and didn't he give Labour MPs a free vote? Sounds like he wants them to go with their individual consciences to me...

Utterly disgusting and despicable behaviour, Corbyn is going to have an extremely hard ride ahead if he's ever to be viewed as a credible leader.

Freedom of speech and choice is dead in the Labour Party.

For a while now there have been reports of Labour MP's being bullied, harassed by left wing activists. They have been threatened with deselection, sent photos of dead babies to put pressure on them to vote on Syria etc.

Yesterday during the Syrian debate many Labour MP's made reference to this happening and Labour MP John Mann called for Cameron to apologise for his words but also said the Labour front bench should also apologise for the harassment the Labour MP's were recieving. Labour MP Stella Creasy literally left the debate to go to her office as the staff were receiving phone abuse and there were anti war campaigners causing them harassment. This point will be refuted by those who attended so we must all make our own decision as to whom we believe.

I mentioned in posts last night how disgusting I think this behaviour is on the Should we bomb Deash/IS thread. I genuinely feel very sorry for the Labour MP's and to be honest I think there is going to be more trouble ahead if the Labour Party do not back their MP's a little harder than has happened so far.

What gives people the right to assume their opinion , their view should not be doubted, not debated and must be adhered to or they resort to threatening behaviour. It is not democratic and I agree with those MP's and commentators who believe this wave of activism is a backward move for the Labour Party..
