Anyone else seriously concerned at the rise of Trump in the USA? It seems that the more extreme, the more crazy, the more fascist he and his 'solutions' become- the more his ratings go up. You would have thought that people would begin to think he is a loose and dangerous canon- but no- they love him all the more.

My mother was studying German at Munich University in 1933- and this is exactly what she described.

And we can't just say 'this is the USA' and it has little to do with us. We have no vote of course- but we certainly live in the same crazy world.

Monthy Python- they knew how to recognize a witch- but how on earth do you recognize a 'Muslim' ???

Joelsnan Thu 10-Dec-15 23:18:15

I listened to Donald Trumps speech. What I understood from it was that he wanted to ban any more Muslims entering the USA until they could get a handle on why they want to go there and murder them and why they go there when many hate everything American. It does appear that ISIS and the like do blame everything on USA and the west whilst they kill millions of their own! Whether this ban would be feasible is highly doubtful.
However...
Muslim countries ban Jews from entering their countries, Even a non Jew should not have an Israeli stamp in their passport or they will be denied entry. these countriest also monitor the number Muslim sects entering their countries so that the majority sect is not overwhelmed (as is close to happening in Bahrain and Yemen).
I find the anti freedom of speech rhetoric concerning.

I agree with those who say it's ridiculous to try to ban him from entering the UK.

The Home Secretary has only banned those whose sole purpose was to come here to incite or preach hatred and/or misogyny.

WilmaKnickersfit Thu 10-Dec-15 23:14:22

greenockgran I am not forgetting what your father fought for when it comes to freedom of speech. But we don't have complete freedom of speech in this country, in fact very few countries do. Each country has its own freedom of speech limitations and I believe if Donald Trump tries to enter the UK, he should join the list of people this country has banned because of their views could be a threat to public security if he was allowed to voice his views in this country.

In my opinion Donald Trump has made statements in the US which incite both religious and racial hatred and if he was permitted to enter the UK and voice his beliefs here, those beliefs would fall into a number of categories of exceptions to this country's freedom of speech legislation.

And they must have a sense of humour, those wig guys!

rosesarered Thu 10-Dec-15 23:12:08

Or perhaps to see his British toupee makers?

rosesarered Thu 10-Dec-15 23:11:09

If he was coming here to do rabble rousing speeches, the the Home Secretary could ban him, or anyone else.He only comes over on business ventures anyway.

Anniebach Thu 10-Dec-15 23:10:09

Think I can out misspell you Greenockgran grin

rosesarered Thu 10-Dec-15 23:08:51

We all make iPad mistakes, sometimes it's hilarious.tchgrin

Anniebach Thu 10-Dec-15 23:08:02

The Home Secretary has banned people from coming to this country

Greenockgran Thu 10-Dec-15 23:07:22

I also apologise for my ipad spelling mistakes. I did well with that red and cream spelling book.

rosesarered Thu 10-Dec-15 23:06:00

He can come here to visit, no law against that , if he did stir up racial hatred or incite violence ( doubt it) then he would be asked to leave. I don't go along with all this talk of banning or signing epetitions ( that won't do anything anyway.)

Anniebach Thu 10-Dec-15 23:05:56

I cannot Greenockgran, do we want to go back to the days of Gerald Nabarro - sorry I have forgotten the correct spelling of this mans surename

Greenockgran Thu 10-Dec-15 23:01:25

Anniebach, I welcome all viepoints. X.

Greenockgran Thu 10-Dec-15 23:00:01

Can you quote that law? How does it work for those who enter our country with hatred for the west? That law should surely apply to those who stir up racial hatred for UK residents and make it their mission to use our laws to change our culture.

Anniebach Thu 10-Dec-15 22:59:46

Then Greenockgran, you have no problem with anyone coming here and having freedom of speech no matter how hate filled their speech is ?

durhamjen Thu 10-Dec-15 22:44:17

We are not forgetting at all, but the law says that anyone who stirs up racial hatred or incites violence should not be allowed in this country.

I actually feel sorry for republicans. Although he has said he might stand as an independent.

durhamjen Thu 10-Dec-15 22:23:50

Sorry, wilma. I hadn't noticed.

Zoe Williams' response about London's no-go areas.

Greenockgran Thu 10-Dec-15 22:20:16

I know many people are afraid to voice their opinions, and he just came right out and said it. Those who wish to ban his point of view, are forgetting the right of freedom of speech that my father fought for.

Anniebach Thu 10-Dec-15 22:10:54

So easy for any paper to quote unnamed sources , I am sure police officers are more fearful now , many members of the public are too , but police have always known there is a risk to their lives, it's part of the job , shouldn't be so but sadly it is so

WilmaKnickersfit Thu 10-Dec-15 21:31:28

To me his article above responding to being stripped of his honorary degree and being dropped as a business ambassador for Scotland speaks volumes about the man.

He clearly thinks spending his money in Scotland gives him the right to be above others in some way. He rode rough shod in Aberdeen and I have no doubt in my mind he used his money to get planning permission for his projects.

I don't know about the policemen who came forward to say they agree with Trump. But as long as I can remember there's been inner city areas where the police are regarded as the enemy by certain groups in those communities. Let's face it, when was the last time you saw a police officer walking the streets alone? For years now police officers have travelled in pairs and in cars. Every officer lost in the line of duty is a tragedy and thankfully it is a rare occurrence. We've had Police Community Support Officers (PCSO) patrolling our streets in England and Wales since 2002 and none have been killed on duty. None of this happened because of radicalisation.

There's a world of difference between the situation we recognise and Trump's statement that parts of London are so radicalised that police fear for their lives.

The reason he and Ben Carson are topping the polls is down to who they are not, not so much who they are.
They are not establishment. They are not Washington.

rosequartz Thu 10-Dec-15 21:16:06

Some Trumpisms (or Trumpetts)

Donald Trump has said he will “postpone” a trip to Israel and a meeting with the country’s prime minister, Binyamin Netanyahu, until “after I become president of the US”
"I am the least racist person that you have ever met"
“You know, it really doesn’t matter what the media write as long as you’ve got a young and beautiful piece of ass.”
“One of the key problems today is that politics is such a disgrace. Good people don’t go into government.”

Is he now 'the front-runner' for the nomination?

To quote one American and hope the others come to their senses: 'You cannot be serious'!!

Ana Thu 10-Dec-15 21:06:49

Oh, have you only just caught up as well, Annie? tchgrin

Anniebach Thu 10-Dec-15 21:04:41

Good for Nicola Sturgeon, I agree Jen a sense if decency

Ana Thu 10-Dec-15 20:56:04

Wilma informed us of that earlier, thank you durhamjen. Do keep up!
