usually I wouldn't give this woman the time of day for her silly writings, but this one does trouble me. Apparently Trump is right and London is completely radicalised... Well as a Londoner myself i can't agree with her at all

yes, she makes her money as an argumentative mouthpiece (not that I'm saying that's right) but stirring up such anti Muslim feeling and agreeing with that idiot's twaddle just seems dangerous at the moment. I despair of the media

en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_London_boroughs

Here is a list of the 32 London Boroughs.
I/we know or have lived/have DDs or other family members/friends living in or visit regularly for entertainment, medical or other reasons , I would say about 20 of them.

I imagine other members can add to that.
Common sense, is precisely what it says on the tin, add in a bit of personal or life experience, travel or study and most people are able to achieve a well rounded view of the situation
Oh and we have a cousin's son who is an Assistant Chief Commissioner in the Met, so probably an opinion from the horse's mouth too.

soontobe Fri 11-Dec-15 19:22:35

Radicalisation is going on behind closed doors.
[Iam64 I am far from fearful]
[Some of my kids have or do live in different city centres]

With respect Alea, 20 is not 32.

Anniebach Fri 11-Dec-15 19:28:43

soon, we are talking of London , you say the Met and Boris Hohnson lied and Trump and K Hopkins spoke the truth

soontobe Fri 11-Dec-15 19:48:18

Good grief! I have said nothing of the sort on all four parts!

soontobe Fri 11-Dec-15 19:55:17

The nearest of what you are saying would be about the met. I am not saying that they are lying.
But the met will have spokesmen who are going to be told to say whatever by whoever. Who cannot hope to know everything that is going on amongst 8 million people.
And as I say, radicalisation is going on behind closed doors.

I cant see how the other 3 are going to know for sure either.
And if they know as much as they say they know, then they should be telling the authorities.

Alea Fri 11-Dec-15 20:01:01

Oh for heaven's sake soontobe!!!
I dare say I have driven through, visited, etc quite a lot of London in my time and there will be other GN members who have lived there for yonks but I also know and trust people who know these things.
Just because you don't seem to have a clue about what life in Lndon is like, you seem all too ready to trust Donald Trump who knows the square root of bu-**er all about life in the UK.

soontobe Fri 11-Dec-15 20:05:29

I am not trusting him about it!
Just saying no one can know.

I agree to differ with you. Merry Christmas! tchgrin

Anniebach Fri 11-Dec-15 21:29:43

soon, This is not about closed doors, this is about the claim there are no go areas for police in London because of Muslims, the met say it is not true Trump claims it is, one is lying , which?

granjura Fri 11-Dec-15 21:40:48

Areas which are not no-go areas, but diffcult to police- are generally white council estates with a lot of kids on drugs, booze, unemployment and crime- or those with a high Afro-carribean population, not Muslim areas.

Alea Fri 11-Dec-15 21:50:33

Soontobe -clearly you have little or no idea, but that doesn't mean others don't.
Life has moved on since the Notting Hill riots of 40+ (?) years ago or the Broadwater Farm Estate business, so don't tar everybody else with your own lack of experience or knowledge.
Yes there are problem estates, as in many cities, but as GJ says, problems with disaffected white youths, Afro Caribbean boys and, yes, I admit, gangs do not equate to no-go radicalised Muslim areas .

Plus, there's more to the UK than London of course, but Donald Trump likes to oversimplify whenever he is trumpeting can.

durhamjen Fri 11-Dec-15 21:56:44

Soon, there's no harm in saying you do not know, and neither does google.
Stop digging.

soontobe Fri 11-Dec-15 21:59:17

Mr Trump said: "We have places in London and other places that are so radicalised that the police are afraid for their own lives."

Does that make them no go areas?

I dont see how the met can say that is not true.
That doesnt mean that they are lying though does it. They cannot answer for every policeman in the met.
How many police would it take for Mr Trump's statement to be true? And for the met to say it isnt true? Are you seeing what I mean?

It doesnt mean either are lying.

Iam64 Fri 11-Dec-15 22:08:00

soon, are you seriously suggesting that you believe what Trump is saying? No, I'm not seeing what you mean, I'm wondering what you're trying to say. I don't believe parts of London are so radicalised etc. Police officers go to work every day in he full knowledge they could be attacked or killed.

grumppa Fri 11-Dec-15 22:19:24

For **'s sake, I have lived in London pretty well all my life, and I cannot think of any place where I have hesitated to go at any time (well, maybe Millwall after they have lost at home to West Ham).

And certainly no area with a predominantly Muslim population would worry me. In fact my recent experience is that Muslims are, understandably, falling over themselves to be helpful and polite.

durhamjen Fri 11-Dec-15 22:20:08

Just arguing for argument's sake, Iam64.

grumppa Fri 11-Dec-15 22:20:30

There were supposed to be four asterisks and an apostrophe!

durhamjen Fri 11-Dec-15 22:21:48

Heaven's got more letters, grumppa.

grumppa Fri 11-Dec-15 22:36:40

Don't forget I'm an atheist.

Galen Fri 11-Dec-15 22:38:47

I never realised that atheists were dyslexic?

gillybob Fri 11-Dec-15 22:46:02

Coming round again, coming round again.

grumppa Fri 11-Dec-15 22:59:54

It's not dyslexia, Galen, it's the difficulty of coping with asterisks as asterisks when they are used to create bold type as well. If I had typed six of them I might have achieved the desired effect.

Ana Fri 11-Dec-15 23:02:39

It's tricky, *grumppa&. When dealing with multiple asterisks, it's always wise to preview your post before submitting it! tchwink

Ana Fri 11-Dec-15 23:03:25

See what I didn't do there? tchgrin

Bennan Fri 11-Dec-15 23:06:46

Having lived in various Arab countries for about sixteen years, I can say hand on heart that my experience of Muslim people is that they are exactly the same as us. There is very little difference between people when it comes to the nitty-gritty of life. A good job, a loving family and a future for their children is all that they want. We are allowing a death cult which has NOTHING to do with Islam, a few extremely uneducated know-it-alls who have their own agendas and politicians who are only after furthering their careers to make us upset and worried about our future and the future of our children and grandchildren. They must not be allowed to succeed -rant over!!
