usually I wouldn't give this woman the time of day for her silly writings, but this one does trouble me. Apparently Trump is right and London is completely radicalised... Well as a Londoner myself i can't agree with her at all

yes, she makes her money as an argumentative mouthpiece (not that I'm saying that's right) but stirring up such anti Muslim feeling and agreeing with that idiot's twaddle just seems dangerous at the moment. I despair of the media

"We have places in London and other places that are so radicalised that the police are afraid for their own lives."

There was an interesting piece about on the Today Prog this morning. Apparently it's not only London either. It was suggested that the police have practically make arrangement with the elders of the locality to go in.

It's not all twaddle, although of course, the police and Boris, etc would never admit openly to it.

Today Programme this morning reassuring or just pussyfooting around the issue?

About 50 minutes in.

Stansgran Sat 12-Dec-15 13:54:34

I'm told that there are places near Bishop Auckland in Co Durham that are no go areas. I read it on Mumsnet. Not because Trump lives around there.

jinglbellsfrocks Sat 12-Dec-15 13:59:19

Does Donald Trump live in County Durham?! tchshock

Stansgran Sat 12-Dec-15 14:44:14

Didn't make myself clear as usual. There are no go areas I hear around BA but no Trump does not live there (as far as I know. )There was talk of skulls being dug up and lorries driven deliberately into houses.

Alea Sat 12-Dec-15 15:18:02

Maybe that was just bad drivers GN!tchgrin

Alea Sat 12-Dec-15 15:18:32

Soontobe has told us that she's in her mid 50s. And I don't think she's ever met any real grown ups. But, that could change, her stories often do.

Anniebach Sat 12-Dec-15 18:02:58

Skulls dug up and vehicles being deliberately driven into houses ? And no one has told the media

Trump addressed a crowd of police officers, perhaps he should be told if you are black American you are far more likely to be shot by the police than given drugs by all those drug smuggling Mexicans he wants to get rid of ,or blown up by a bomb hurling Muslim

durhamjen Sat 12-Dec-15 18:25:04

It was in the media, Annie, but probably not important enough for the nationals. Two gangs at war with each other.

soontobe I will take the words of the Met Police and other official bodies, as well as my own experience of London, rather than accept your view that there are "no go " areas in London.

Of course, there are always people who, usually speaking anonymously and with malign intent, wish to create an atmosphere of fear and mistrust between communities. I had not expected that you, as a professed Christian, would be so willing to go along with such alarmist statements without the benefit of clear and indisputable evidence to back them up. I seem to remember Jesus said "Blessed are the peacemakers".

Stansgran One of your posts seemed to be agreeing with the idea that there are "no go" areas and you cite a comment made on Mumsnet relating to Bishop Auckland. Wikipedia contains the information that only 1.5% of the population of that area is foreign born - as against the national average of 8.9%. The Muslim population makes up 0.2%. As others have suggested, it is often those areas where there are the fewest foreigners where there is also the greatest fear of them and the most prejudice.

jinglbellsfrocks Sat 12-Dec-15 18:48:05

That's them told off then.

jinglbellsfrocks Sat 12-Dec-15 18:48:41

Anyone else for a slapped wrist?

Stansgran Sat 12-Dec-15 19:07:26

Did I ever say that the no go area around Bishop. was full of foreigners? Don't think so.

Anniebach Sat 12-Dec-15 19:30:50

Thanks jen, I hadn't heard of it happening,

durhamjen Sat 12-Dec-15 20:28:14

I think it was two gangs of travellers, wasn't it, Stansgran? Skulls dug up from a graveyard. Nice people.

whitewave Sat 12-Dec-15 20:31:31

We have a load in the Sainsburys car park. What asses they are.

Alea Sat 12-Dec-15 20:54:08

Where has soontobe disappeared to? I hope she hasn't ventured into one of those no-go areas tchshocktchshock

durhamjen Sat 12-Dec-15 20:57:41

Skulls or travellers, whitewave? Or no go areas?

soontobe Sat 12-Dec-15 22:32:12

As far as I am concerned, there is not clear evidence on either side.
When there isnt, I dont come down one way or the other. How can I? No one should in my opinion. I am keeping an open mind.

soontobe Sat 12-Dec-15 22:34:09

Can you name any? Which story has changed petra?

Quite. But gransnetters always know best or better hmm

granjura Sat 12-Dec-15 22:43:26

The same phenomenon was highlighted in the voting for the Front National in France last week- the whole of Eastern France voted for Marine and her racist lot- including the part of France very close to me. And yet there is very little immigration there, and even less Immigrants who are Muslims. But they voted on the fear instilled into them by the NF.

People in rural areas where the problems described by the Press or right wing stirrers are more susceptible to believing exaggerations or even lies- as they do not have experience of the reality on the ground.

soontobe Sat 12-Dec-15 22:48:13

This has nothing to do with fear.
And all to do with truth.

Radicalisation - goes on behind closed doors.
Parts of London being radicalised. Only the bobby on the street knows, or not knows.

soontobe Sat 12-Dec-15 22:52:55

As far as I know there is only one poster on here who I think I am right in saying lives in one part of London, and probably goes into a mosque on a regular basis.
