Cameron's Christmas message

Having read the headline perhaps Cameron can reflect on Christian values of faith, hope and charity and look to his conscience for guidance concerning the more unfortunate people both at home and abroad! Where is kindness, support and understanding in government policy? Is it really Christian to see people in poverty, the NHS a shambles whilst our leaders are revelling in their million £ homes and tasting all the good things life has to offer. Perhaps he thinks that charity begins in his home and doesn't extend further than his circle mates.

Anyway, my Christmas message is to help and support all those who are less well off than ourselves in whatever small way we can. Happy Christmas all and please forgive the grouch. (I'm an aetheist (spelling has deserted me on this Christmas eve) - I must be getting older!)

They are Christian values because they are the teachings of Christ . How is it possible to accept the teachings of a man if one does not believe the man existed?

trisher Mon 28-Dec-15 11:19:47

Thanks for the link JessM Very interesting, but not totally unexpected. How Dave and his mates have managed to convince anyone that they are interested in anything apart from money and power I don't know. I suppose speeches about "Christian values" are part of it. Just hope the saying about fooling people is true and they don't manage to "fool all of the people all of the time" and enough people realise what they are doing in time.

Anniebach Mon 28-Dec-15 11:32:16

He is the master of sound bites - the hard working man - this is a country of Christian values etc, he was in P R

durhamjen Mon 28-Dec-15 11:33:30

Unfortunately he seems to be able to take in a large number of the voting population, trisher.
And next time he will not need so many votes if he gerrymanders the constituency boundaries.
I think it was www.hopenothate.org.uk that organised a registration drive to get as many people as possible to sign up, as did the Labour Party and the People's Assembly. I hope it worked.

Anniebach Mon 28-Dec-15 11:40:07

They will win the next election if they are allowed to get away with all their lies and fiddles

durhamjen Mon 28-Dec-15 11:59:57

Same as they did with the last one.
What happened to Grant Shapps and his mate? The other PR men.
It's a sad reflection that so many people get taken in by spin and lies. Did you notice how many more spads Cameron and his cronies now have? We're paying for them. Maybe that's how the employment figures get fixed, too.

Anniebach Mon 28-Dec-15 12:12:10

Not just taken in by spin and lies, there has been posts saying Charisma is important in a PM . People going hungry and homeless are just fine if the
PM has charisma,

We have to hope the young will not place charisma above all else

Ana Mon 28-Dec-15 12:14:47

I don't recall anyone ever posting that they thought DC had charisma.

Good grief, no! Damp squib more like.

What is a squib, btw? <heads dictionariwards>

I hear he is honouring the north of England with his presence today. I suspect the locals are a lot more happy to see the Muslim chaps from Bradford etc who are turning up with curry and willing pairs of hands to help with the cleanup.
See last paragraph in this
www.theguardian.com/environment/2015/dec/27/calderdale-flood-victims-survey-the-damage-i-cant-go-through-this-again
and also here from a couple of weeks ago:

Christian values are, indeed, not the exclusive property of a single faith.

rosesarered Mon 28-Dec-15 12:54:32

The thing is, the truth must be that millions of Conservative voters ( either life long ones, or others thinking that the Conservatives will do a better job all round) cannot all be taken in by 'spin and lies', look at it the other way, if Labour under Ed Miliband had won the election would a few Tory posters on here be saying the same thing about Labour now? Quite possibly is the answer. Will Corbyn always be truthful? He may get around this knotty problem by not saying much at all ( apparently the case in many Shadow cabinet meetings.)All politicians make promises, in all parties, then, once in power, find that things have changed,or they simply can't afford to do it,or it was a mistake to promise it in the first place. The last Labour government was accused of 'spin and lies' the whole time.

Reality is a cool and levelling thing indeed, roses.

Elegran Mon 28-Dec-15 13:02:46

It is always noticeable how much better the opposition could run the country - until they get voted in and actually have to do it. Then the new opposition become the experts.

gillybob Mon 28-Dec-15 13:07:25

Exactly Elegran it is also very easy to say what you would do better until of course you find that you have neither the ability or resources to do it.

gillybob Mon 28-Dec-15 13:12:57

To be fair though JessM. There is a tendency for prime ministers and royalty to visit sites of disasters etc. to "see for themselves". Can't see a problem with that.

durhamjen Mon 28-Dec-15 16:50:54

As said somewhere else, do they have to come and see for themselves in order for the disaster to exist?

durhamjen Mon 28-Dec-15 19:49:18

A message about Cameron's Christmas message from someone who does not claim to be a better Christian than Cameron, but at least knows what Jesus was on about.

Anniebach Mon 28-Dec-15 23:38:34

Well said and so true, thank you Jen

grabba Mon 28-Dec-15 23:47:04

Homelessness increased. Food banks use increased. Universal Credit and sanctions sending people in to even more dispair and poverty. The Christian way?

gillybob Mon 28-Dec-15 23:54:20

hmm

JessM Tue 29-Dec-15 08:40:59

gillybob IMO it is to be seen to be concerned. Are there any photos of Cameron commiserating with victims? Inside a devastated house? No - it was photo shoots with soldiers and then back to Oxfordshire. ITV showed a shot of him hovering near the end of a flooded road and a woman shouting at him off camera.

Anniebach Tue 29-Dec-15 08:50:18

I am quite sure I will be corrected if mistaken - quite sure! When Cameron visited the floods in his area did he not assure the residents the money was there for them? Yet yesterday his assurance was - we will look at what can be done. North South devide yet again.

I know not quoted accurately, perhaps a kind person could copy and paste links, I must learn how to do this

jinglbellsfrocks Tue 29-Dec-15 08:54:24

Well, this thread has kept some Gransnetters occupied over the Xmas period, if nothing else. tchgrin

Congratulations to Luckygirl for the most yucky, and un-Christmassy, post yet.

tchhmm

gillybob Tue 29-Dec-15 09:31:30

Oh no...... Not the dreaded "links" Anniebach don't we get plenty of them already without asking for more?

Anniebach Tue 29-Dec-15 09:35:26

Ignore what doesn't interest you gillybob , it's what I and others do
