But, NFK, do you not think that if we leave the EU, then get TTIP, we will just be exchanging one big brother for another in the US?
I am sure I read that if we leave the EU, we will have problems with America, as they do more finance with the EU than the UK.

How will you vote in the EU referendum?
(1001 Posts)I'm definitely for LEAVING. Even if it was proved that the country would be slightly worse off I would still vote to leave. It would be worth it to gain our freedom from such a corrupt organisation.
3 million jobs would be at risk. That's a lie.
The person wrote that comment only said 3 million were involved in industries which sold to the EU. They would still continue to deal with the EU if we left. The report was also written many years ago so if we have not increased that figure over the years it shows there has been NO growth!!!.
Sorry, my post was an additional remark following on from Jalima's post on landfill and Winterwatch.I didn't finish it due to two year old refusing to sleep and grabbing my iPad! I wanted to make the point that we now have to send un-recyclables to incineration, which discourages recycling and pollutes, as Brussels has decided it should be so.
I shall vote to leave as I think the EU has grown too big and unwieldy, and is far too big brotherish. A pity it didn't just stay a common market.
I will vote in
?
A lot of discussion about recycling and landfill...... Why?
To say the least.
Eh?
They need a bit more than what landfill needs.
Children cannot exist being plonked in any old green field.
An old landfill site near here is presently being mined fir recyclables. Newer ones which have been sealed to high spec are producing methane and have been planted with trees and set aside for wildlife. They cannot be farmed or built on. Landfill nowadays is cleaner
if the £ drops, and the Euro too- as a result of the EU disintegrating- we are truly and totally stuffed! Again, though, not the reason I'd vote for staying in, but it is a real consideration for us personally. Whether our UK pensions are index linked or not will make very little difference.
When your budget is made on a value of 2.5 to the £ and it drops to 1.40, 1.30- 1.10 - you can but sink (we are lucky that we have kept a property in the UK we could go back to any time should the proverbial **it hit that fan).
Your State Pension will only increase each year if you live in:
the European Economic Area (EEA)
Switzerland
countries that have a social security agreement with the UK (but you can’t get increases in Canada or New Zealand)

does your pension get uprated to what it would have been if you had always lived here?
djen I thought I did get uprated in the EU but not in countries such as Australia, New Zealand, there is a list somewhere.
I expect it's because all these expressions are veiled insults, and clearly intended as such.
Regarding landfill and recycling (which personally we do as much as possible) - did anyone see Winter Watch the other night?
One of the presenters was on a landfill site which was invaded by gulls, different types, who were after the food. They said that they did not know what would happen to the number of gulls if more and more recycling was done as the food supply for these gulls would go down and they were there because the supply of fish has gone down in their normal habitats.
They then all went on to a nearby lake which the landfill company (Viridor?) had made for them next to the landfill.
Now, there's a thought!
"Little Englander"
[groan]
not again
Sorry if people feel the "Little Englander" term was in some way abusive. To me it just sums up the policies and opinions which involve us in becoming more isolated, withdrawing from any form of European involvement, abandoning any sort of collective responsibility, sending home European workers and closing our borders. I suppose I could have posted that long expression but chose a shortened term. Given that if we do leave the EU Scotland will almost certainly go for independence it also deals with that. If anyone has a short expression which they would prefer to use I am quite willing to use it. I do wonder though why you find it so unacceptable. Could it be that the term encapsulates views which you recognise are in some way unacceptable?
I did follow the term with a number of reasons why I am pro-European and I have yet to hear any arguments against them
Is it an insult saying a group of people are UKIP supporters? If so would those insulted please explain why they feel insulted?
We can't have a debate if people won't discuss, just make statements which they are unable to back up with any reasoned arguments or personal examples.
Nobody willing to discuss the petty rules/sovereignty argument for leaving. Just take the hump instead.
Funny though, how people use figures for particular reasons.
90% greenfield site- so plenty of land left for landfill.
But if some say there is space for the children refugees in camps- all of a sudden the country is full to the brim.
Which is it?
This article if from the Independent, but there are 100s more saying the same. We need land for housing and agriculture, and perhaps a little bit left for nature?:
Britain will today be declared the "dustbin of Europe" after warnings that it will run out of landfill sites in less than eight years.
The UK buries more than 18.8 million tonnes of household waste – two million tonnes more than any other EU country. On current trends, British taxpayers will face "fines" of up to £180m a year by 2020 if targets under an EU scheme to reduce the amount of paper, food and garden waste being send to landfill sites are not met. Penalties will be imposed on local authorities but will, in effect, be passed on to residents.
57 million tonnes of rubbish, including industrial waste, are being disposed in landfill sites each year. With 650 million cubic metres of capacity left in the ground – three times the volume of Lake Windermere – the UK will reach its limit by 2018.
So 2018 is in .... how many years?
totally run out of landfill - you have got to be kidding me. 90% of the UK is still green fields.
POGS well said, and I tried to say similar back on the previous page, I just knew it would turn out badly because of a few posters.
All the aggression will have the effect of putting people off the 'staying in' camp, and make others not post anything. In the end, we will all vote the way we want to, just as in a General Election, and surely this thread was just meant to be a bit of interest, not a platform for insults.
dj- some pensions are indexed linked, some are not. We are on the lucky side.
As Mamie says, many of us made our mind on many things due to being part of the EU. Switzerland is not btw, but has reciprocal agreements with the EU which give us more or less the same rights. As Mamie also explains, if the £ tumbles if the UK gets out of EU- that 1.25 million of Brits abroad (of which I am one, whatever some may say here- as I rely totally on UK pension and UK savings) will probably have no choice but to return anyhow.
We have already lost 40% of our income due to exchange rate- if the £ tumbles we will just have to go back. The £ was 2.50 to the pound when we moved, tumbled 2 years ago to 1.18 for a while and now back to about 1.45.
But our decision to vote to stay in is not just about our income at all- but because we both genuinely believe it would be best for the UK.
We can't get old style light-bulbs here either, and we are not part of Europe. About recycling, again - please could someone answer- what will happen when very very soon, the UK has totally run out of landfill space?
Do you want your grand-children to grow up on a landfill site?
The EU's about more than that, though, surely.
Little Englander - dont see why not.
Lightbulbs - dont see why not.
Migrants - dont see why not.

It doesnt matter what the reason is, it is their reason for wanting to vote out.
